Stayed here for one night as somewhere to put our heads down following a wedding nearby. The accomodation was ok. The bed was comfortable but small for a double. The bathroom could do with a little modernisation. The pub has plenty of character with wooden beams and creaky floorboards throughout. Food was good, we had lunch the day of arrival.... More

I visited The Chequers today with a group of Ramblers for our lunch stop- what a great discovery! Good food, fab and friendly service and just a welcoming place to be! All 8 of us loved our lunch and the genuine warm welcome we had. A couple of us had been previously during a pre walk and had the same... More

I booked to stay here for a wedding. My friend checked in before the wedding and I met her at the church. Later that evening I went back to the pub to settle in, the pub was closed and it was dark with no lighting to see anything. The keys did not work to get into the pub, the doorbells... More

I am sorry that you could not access your room Madeleine. Your friend whom you were sharing with had no problem getting in, the other four letting rooms residents experiencing no issues with the doors either. I did check the door with your friend present and the keys you couldn't access the building with on the Sunday morning and she... More

Not good, arrived at the venue, strange welcome from staff, went to room, awful , smelt of stale , mildew, the bedding appeared very off white and to add to it the previous occupants half glass of beer was still on the side table !!! avoid like the plague

I am sorry you found our staff "strange" we are complimented constantly on their warm and welcoming nature. There is no damp in the rooms and we had had our carpets cleaned two weeks previous to your viewing so cannot imagine the smell you are referring to! Far from being off white our bedding is provided by a reputable commercial... More

We have yet again had a superb meal at this very friendly pub. The gardens are looking great, plenty of seating amongst the flowers...and very friendly and chatty service!! Very strongly recommended. The prices, particularly the Senior Citizens menu is very tasty and well presented.

Overal it was a lovely place to stay. The massive downfall was how dirty the room was. The coffee was out of date, lamp was so dusty, kettle was broken under the beds thick with dirt. The cutlery was in useable as was stained and dirty, location amazing, garden even better and the bar was nice. It's very small area... More

i and my son stopped over here for one night. the pub is full of olde world charm, the gardens are lovely. the room was clean but a bit dated (tv and bath for example). dinner was good pub food and reasonably priced. Breakfast was a little odd in as much as there were no cereals, fruit etc just hot... More

Excellent value at lunchtime as they have a 2-course lunch for seniors for £7.95. We both had an ample portion of whitebait served on a board with a salad garnish and a warm baguette. I had the liver and bacon and my wife had the homemade chicken & leek pie. Again ample portions freshly cooked. Shepherd Neame ales are well... More

Have just had a very tasty lunch at this lovely old pub in our local village.... I knew it was next to the River Teise and their gardens with tables and decking are just delightful, I believe a lot of hard work has gone into creating this peaceful setting and my congratulations go to all concerned!!! The food was great,... More
