I don't often leave a poor review and would rather say nothing ...but this is the 3rd time I've stayed in this pair of hotels (one rated 2* and one 3*). The noise from the party revellers returning from the clubs at 0500-0600 guarantees a poor night. Avoid rooms overlooking the street. The management will respond that this is beyond their control and to book an internal room. We tried to... Room very small with tiny shower and shower curtain that sticks to you it's so close. Back to Blightey for some sleep!

Ideal location with restaurants and beach nearby. Unfortunately, however, it is difficult to get a good night's sleep if you are in one of the very small internal twin rooms (we had booked a double but were given a twin). The hotel is built around a central atrium and we had a bright spotlight shining into our room one night. With the room window open, the noise from the room opposite was so loud that we were kept awake by other guests. The double rooms overlook the square so are probably better.

Response from Laura R, Gerente at La Plaza
Responded Nov 9, 2014

I was in Luanco looking up relatives and to see the house my father grew up in. All I had was a name and some photos. The people were amazing and recognized my cousin and new her grandson owned a store in Luanco. They made an impossible quest easy and their service was wonderful. The hotel was somewhat quaint and austere, but it was confortable and nicely decorated. I would recommend it to anyone.

I stayed at the La Plaza II in the center of Luanco w/ my wife and young kids (ages btw 2 and 6). We used it as a homebase for the town and surrounding area of Asturias to visit my wife's family. It's a nice modern comfortable hotel in an amazing location in the center of town. It's only two short blocks from the beach on a (mostly) pedestrian street and right next to the main two streets that are full of seafood tavernas, Sidrerias and vino bars. Not to mention all the coffee shops and bakeries for the morning. The hotel itself is a nice three star place with medium sized rooms w/ good beds and a modern bathroom in an attractive building set in a quiet little plaza. The breakfast buffet was huge and largely homemade, including many typical Asturian items you wouldn't find in other parts of Spain. There were some little things like it could use more closet space and the sink was small but these are easily offset by all of its other pluses. Not to mention that at its rate its very fairly priced, especially for the beach in Asturias. Besides all the positives mentioned above though the best part of the hotel is the friendly staff and the excellent service they provided. Not only were they genuinely friendly with great advice and recommendations, but they were particularly helpful and attentive assisting with a pain in the @ss situation... Before we arrived in Luanco I was pickpocketed in Barcelona (besides that part it was a fantastic stay in Barca) and was having trouble with American Express and DHL in having a replacement card delivered. The hotel staff became very involved in the matter and often called the companies on our behalf to arrange delivery. They went beyond what would normally be expected even of a five star hotel and acted as though they had a personal stake in the matter. So definitely stay at the La Plaza for the fine hotel it is in the center of town with so many fine eating and drinking establishments close by and a short attractive stroll to the beach, not to mention the fantastic service they'll provide. But enjoy your time in Luanco a little more knowing that if you do have some stupid P-I-T-A problem you're staying at a place that will do everything they possibly can to help you resolve it.
