Comforting and charming best describes the mood at the Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge. This is where Africa will captivate you in a laid-back and cheerful manner. The long-gone atmosphere of Africa safaris from centuries past seems to hover in the air. Enjoy the Kalahari desert from one of twelve individual guest houses nestled into the bankside of a natural dry lake where lots of wild animals are frequent to be spotted. The Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge is a very special place - let its magic work on you. Directions: From Windhoek, drive 190km south on B1 to Kalkrand. Continue on B1 for another 6km and turn towards the lodge until you reach the visible entrance to the lodge after 3km.

Great facilities and we enjoyed a great 10 mile walk with Englebrecht - super Guide. Only disappointment - just one course for dinner - Duck - we asked waitress for an alternative but never saw her again - shame. Otherwise excellent facilities in the lodge and out on the trek.

About 3 hours south of Windhoek and a great first lodge on a tour of the fascinating Namibia. Beside a vlei (dried lake) and overlooking a bore-hole water supply and feeding station with some fine eland, wildebeest, Burchell's zebra and red hartebeest. Some well-marked safari walks through the Kalahari desert and local dunes. The Blauweg is a good couple of hours walk with grand views and springbok running around. Comfortable chalets with their own terrace and sofa to relax on. Good meals and friendly and knowledgeable warden.

We stayed just the one night but was suitably impressed by our guide who took us on a Sundowner to spot the rare Ardvark sighting - well pleased. Like most of the lodges we stayed the food was excellent and well presented, Room was clean and adequate for the night. The only negative was a shortage of animal stock to see on Game Drive - apart from the Ardvark.

One of the most enjoyable lodges, the rooms are just fantastic. Also the morning game drive is in a wonderful scenery. A lodge with 3 showers, 2 lounge seats, comfortable bed, and a fantastic view out of the window, wish we could stay here longer

We really enjoyed our stay here. When we first arrived (early) there was a large group of Africaans still there who appeared to dominate the main lodge area. That said we ordered some lunch and had our welcome drink and introduction without problems. The individual cabins were fantastic, very spacious both inside and out. A massive picture window with a view of the feeding area where there were eland, wildebeest, oryx, ostrich and ground squirrels. There is also a shower in the living room as well as the bathroom area! There is also a turn down service, nice touch. As we were there early we decided to do one of the self guided walks where we saw red hartebeest, springbok and steenbok on the trail ahead. I would say the walks are not very well marked as somehow we ended up incorporating two other walks as well. Make sure you take plenty of drinking water with you as it is very hot and exposed, but well worth the effort. We really enjoyed the cocktails we had when we got back to the lodge. The three course dinner was very good with game on offer and some nice wine, you can also have drinks brought to your cabin! Breakfast was good with plenty of pastries and muffins, although the juice was a dilute type it was ok. The only thing we didn’t like was what appeared to be an orphaned meerkat in the dining room, which diners were picking up and having their photo taken with. We didn’t see any meerkats outside although there seemed to holes. That said I would definitely recommend this lodge.
