Arriving in Kamanjab, OppiKoppi is quickly found. The reception could be a little more friendly. The check-in was quick. A Dutch/Belgian couple is Owner of this lodge. And yet you see that in the main house and the rooms in the bungalows. Everything is well arranged and maintained. We got a room with extra bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen. Everything was very clean. The room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and was well appointed. At the rear you have a large terrace where you can also barbecue. The air conditioning worked excellently. The restaurant has a good kitchen although the pizzas could not please us. The breakfast was very complete, you could choose from various types of breakfast. We talked to the Dutch owner, she was very welcoming and friendly. We would have liked to stay there one more night but had to move on. Highly recommended in Kamanjab!

The Oppi Koppi Camp at Kamanjab is almost like a farm stay. There are 2 resident dogs, one big one small, ostrich that does a mating dance whenever it sees me, hornbills, porcupine and genets. It is a basic and comfortable place, and perfectly situated for an early morning drive (45 min, 120km/h on tar road) off to the Etosha NP Galton Gate (West Entrance). The shower is one of the best, high pressure, with consistent hot water.
There's a restaurant onsite, that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There's also campsites, where you can make your own meals.

We camped after a long day travelling along the Kunene River road from Epupa Falls at campsite #6 which was large enough for us to manipulate our caravan easily and adjacent to the ablutions. 220V power was available. Ablutions were clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the dinner in particular was excellent. Wi-fi connectivity was good. The establishment has a number of chalets well laid out although we did not make use of them.

We showed up evening of for a one night camping spotting before heading into Etosha National park the next morning. The camping spots come with an outdoor kitchen area with electric and water. This was a great stop over. They have a restaurant and bar on site with FREE wifi in the common area.

The most African lodge for us during this trip. Tastefully decorated. Very pleasant stay at this lodge located on the edge of a village. Lunch menu is very tasty and dinner is also well prepared. The owner is a very nice woman. The staff very friendly and helpful. The visit to the Himba village was impressive. We felt awkward at first because we had the feeling that we were invading the village with our cameras. After a special moment with one of the Himba women, the language boundaries disappeared. Motherhood is universal.

The place is ok: clean, well mantained and convenient. The staff that work there are extremely nice and welcoming (as with all namibians I must say). BUT, go there only if you enjoy seeing dead animals all around you, since the owners are hunters and are proud to tell you they like the Namibian wild animals only to shoot them dead. Expect to see a living ostridge in a cage, stuffed giraffes as well as any other animal you can think of. They even proudly put on display a baboon they killed inside the camp, with the bullet that killed it.
Our advise: if you're in Africa because of its natural beauty and wildlife, stay somewhere else. There's tons of other places that deserve your presence. Let this belgians by themselves.

Response from VitalC27, Manager at Oppi-Koppi Rest Camp
Responded Feb 11, 2020
Hi We just want to correct this guest the ostrich is not in a cage it is in a camp +- half a hectare big with a shade shed for it, fresh water every day and fresh food every day. We also feed Porcupines and Spotted Jennet cats in the evening at the back of the restaurant on the one wall for all the guest to see. There is also a abundance of Hyraxes to see during the day. The owners of Oppi-Koppi are not hunters, the animal "trophy's" he is referring to was not shot by the owner it was given to him by one of the residents of Kamanjab whose family member killed a few years ago and the "trophy's" belonged to the deceased person. for the baboon it was damaging the grass roofs and after a lot of tempts to scare it away it had to be shot just above the baboon is a board to explain why it was shot. and it is not just Belgians working at Oppi-Koppi we are a lot on Namibians here as well so please come and see us, talk to us and ask us what is the story surrounding every thin here at Oppi-Koppi we will be glad to tell you please do not just make you own assumptions Kind Regards and hope to see you soon Oppi-Koppi Management

We had a nice big clean family room. The only minus was the ash tray on the terrace outside with the left overs from previous guests. Concerning the food,we had the best steak and french fries in whole Namibia 😊 and there was a lot of choice on the menu, unless like other guest houses where they serve just one menu for dinner.

Whilst traveling through northern Namibia we came upon Oppi Koppi. It turned out to be a well run and pleasant overnight stay. The Campsite is clean, and the chance to use the pool and other facilities was welcome. The best of all was the fact that as Overlanders, we didn’t have to pay for the campsite! A very nice surprise.
