This place was absolutely amazing. Although we stayed here a few months ago, we keep bringing it up with our friends. The hosts, Des and Kim, couldn't be more welcoming. I showed up sick with food poisoning from a different resort, and they took great care of me and I was up in no time! I even left my kindle...

Dear Ellie M We sincerely appreciate your review and we are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay with “our” chimp family and us! Your Kindle has been very much appreciated by guests and staff alike, and we thank you so much for your kind “donation” ☺ We believe that the Kungwe guides and tracking crew are really amongst...

Spent three nights in Mahale Mountain with our pilot and another tourist. Every cent spent on this trip was absolutely worth it. The tracker found chimpanzees for us and the guide took us to see these wonderful creatures. It has taken years for these chimpanzees to get use to human presence. They will walk right past you. Staff are friendly...

Dear Steph P, Thank you so much for taking the time to review Kungwe Beach Lodge and the Mahale Mountains NP! We think that you will agree that the isolation and remoteness of Kungwe is what makes it so special. We are so happy to hear that you had a great viewing of the Chimps – we hope that your...

My husband and I spent three nights at Kungwe Beach Lodge and loved our time there. Kim and Des were the perfect hosts, making sure we were comfortable and well looked after. Everyone who worked at the camp was professional and friendly, truly spoiling us. Rama was a knowledgeable guide and answered our millions of questions about the chimps, as...

Dear kottiecb, Many thanks for reviewing Kungwe and your very kind words! We are so happy to hear that you had a wonderful visit in “Paradise”. The fact that the Chimps cooperated and came into camp, always adds a special memory to any visit ☺ Campfire conversations are one of the best parts of the day for us…. It’s marvelous...

I didn't understand why it was so expensive until we traveled there. Took a plane from Arusha and then a boat from the Mahale airstrip to the camp. Every nail, tent, board, ounce of food, water, wine, beer, toilet, shower head, bag of cement, and everything else has to be shipped in at tremendous cost to create such an oasis....

The main reason to reach Mahale is the opportunity to see (actually, spend some time with) chimpanzees, and Kungwe is definitely the right choice. The National Park itself is simply brilliant, and Kungwe Beach Lodge is the place to stay. Hosts Des and Kim are lovely, the setting is breathtaking and the guiding (thank you Rama!) is simply superb. Chances...

Kungwe Beach Lodge combines the unique and triliing experience of meeting the chimps and a tranquil paradise-like beach with a refressing lake. We had excellent encounters with the chimps; loved every minute of observing them and taking pictures of them. We were impressed by the dedication and knowledge of the guides and trackers. After an exciting day of chimps watching...

Kungwe is well worth the work it takes to get there! I hesitate to write a glowing review, because it is such an unspoiled paradise with top notch service, and I don't want it to get too crowded, BUT it was such an amazing experience that I think everyone who loves animals should have. We ended our safari experience through...
