The villa was very nice & kept clean with maid service 3 times a week. The double bed was very uncomfortable & they are not suitable for anyone with mobility problems due to the number of steps required to access them. We were in villa 8.

There are 5 double villas but 3 of them are accessed via an extremely steep drive. As a family with a wheelchair user and young children this made any trip out a nightmare. The drive was completely inaccessible without 2 people either pushing up hill or controlling the down hill descent. There is a ladder into the pool rather than steps which again made the pool inaccessible to a member or our family. This was a last minute change of accommodation for us and was completely unacceptable. Villas themselves were ok but not very high standard. Glad we were only here a week.

Review collected in partnership with Jet2holidays
Hi I was very dissapointed to not find any reviews of James Villas no 4 Can Mimi, Galdana Palms before we went on our holiday in July this year. We booked through James Villas and they were exceptional in every way. We had not had a foreign holiday in 17 years so for a family of 6, 3 boys, 21, 19 and 16 and a girl 13 it was quite a big organisational feat! The villa itself was very good. It was clean had great air conditioning, very big inside with tiled floors, one ensuite for the master bedroom and another bathroom. Also two more nice bedrooms. I couldn't find any faults at all and I have stayed in worse places with hard mattresses in Devon! The grounds were very spacious and in fact no.4 has the biggest garden of all 10 villas. The pool was clean and the filter and pumps came on automatically as did the lights at night. Also the grass was lovely and green, thanks to the sprinklers that come on at night, even thought the temperatue was 33 every day! The pool man came once while we were there and the maid came twice, she was very thorough and efficient, both were very polite and freindly. The James Villa rep came to see us and got us a coffee maker that was on the list of items inlcuded. She also gave us a nice bottle of champagen and wine for the last night of our holiday! The Villa is the on the second level reached by a steepish drive and then a few steps. Unless you are very unfit or disabled there was no problem with this at all. There was also adequate parking either outside on the road in the day or up on the first level. The local supermarket has most things but quite expensive. We were fortunate to have a hire car so we went to both Lidls, one near Mahon and one near Cituedella. We stocked up twice with lots of groceries. The roads are really good and there is one main road throught the spine of the island. Cituedella is lovely, Ferreries is not much to look at really, Mahon is good for a viist, but I would say that next time we would probably stay at Cala Galdana, which we found to be lovely. The Kayaks are excellent, hire them from the wellness hotel, very cheap, we hired 3 doubles for an hour and it cost 45 euros. A fantastic experience, we went to the next cove. We also hired the pedalos with the slide, 12 euros for half an hour or 20 for an hour, for 4 people. We hired two but only for half an hour. Next time we will hire them for longer. The experience was amazing. You can pedal very far out into the bay and then dive off. We used snorkles and you could see clearly almost 5 metres down with many colourful fish. I also noticed that it was very difficult to dive down because of the high salt content which meant you could lay on your back and float without sinking. We found an amazing restaurant called Delit, which is run by 3 brothers, who were all so very welcoming and polite. We had free cocktails after every meal and the food was very good. I noticed most of Menorcan food to be either fish or meat but not much in the way of vegatables. All in all Cala Galdana is a very nice friendly cove with some great water sports. The villa itself is very good and the location is excellent. Very quiet at night time. The resort was also quiet at night and everyone we met were nice helpful and friendly. We flew with Thomson from Bournemouth and the whole experience from start to finish, through James Villas was amazing. We had free airport parking and free hire car. The pick up of the hire car was so easy at Mahon airport. Mahon airport is big spacious and very efficient. We have enjoyed our holiday so much that we want to book again next year and if we can we will choose the same Villa and the same date. There were about 20 ants!! There was no negatives to speak of and all in all we had a fabulous holiday and I'm not easily pleased! So I hope this review helps people.

Having read some of the reviews I was a little unsure whether to book this villa but I was so pleased I did! We had a wonderful peaceful holiday (apart from the cockerel who appeared around 4pm each day but that was really quite entertaining). The villa we had (no. 10) was very comfortable for 6 people. The air conditioning was fantastic and the cleaner who came every other day was very thorough. The supermarket beyond the Cala Galdana hotel allowed us to transport our shopping in their wheeled shopping baskets which we found very useful. Some very good restaurants within easy walking distance and very reasonably priced. The pool was maintained twice during our stay and was a perfect temperature and size. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and would definitely return. No sign of the ants mentioned in previous reviews!! The only negative comment would be the pillows

The reason the Galdana Palms failed to get an excellent rating from myself was mainly due to the number of steps you have to climb to reach your villa (this applies to all the villas), not good for someone like me who's just had a knee replacement I found the beds somewhat disappointing, they really could do with something like a decent mattress to support you from the springs. To be fair no one else in our family complained about the beds, maybe that's because they all weigh a lot less than my 16 stone. And then there's the depth of the pool, I know this has been mentioned before but I must add my concerns about it being too deep, we could have relaxed a lot more knowing our little one could have touched the bottom. One final dig is the BBQ which has no height adjustment but this was easily overcome by resting the grill on locally sourced rocks, oh yes,and if you enjoy a glass of wine in a proper glass then you'll have to buy some from a supermarket or bring your own unless of course you're lucky enough to find the ones we left at No 8. My next rant has nothing to do with the villa but it may be of some interest if you are booking through Thomson who really need to get their act together when they say a hire car is included in the package. You tell me how they expect a Mini to accommodate four adults one child requiring a child seat and five suitcases plus hand luggage. Last year we had exactly the same problem and Thomson would not upgrade us to a larger vehicle but did give us the option of two small cars at no extra cost This year they did not give us that option and it cost us five hundred euros to upgrade to a car that could just about contain all our luggage and even then the parcel shelf had to be removed and be carried by the front passenger. Oh and just as a reminder, you have to add the taxation of nearly fifty euros per couple per fortnight just to stay on the island Now for the good bits, and why Galdana Palms is such a good choice especially for families, its all about location location location, Galdana Palms couldn't be better placed, 10 mins walk alongside the river feeding the ducks brings you to a lovely sandy beach where our four year old granddaughter played happily for hours, Then it was off to the water slides where adults can join in (if you're mad), or just relax and keep an eye on the little darlings while enjoying a well earned drink. Now Cala Galdana is geared up for tourists so there is a certain amount of low key music and entertainment in the evenings from hotels and bars etc but when it comes to bed time the villas are at the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac so the only noise you may hear is from crickets or if your unlucky from your next door neighbours. If you feel like a change from the beach then check out the "Castle" something or other on the Me-1 heading into Ciutadella from Ferreries you can't miss it, Four euros a head buys you and the kids acres of fun but be warned fellas its also a shopping mecca for the women All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending Galdana Palms, the villas are very well kept inside and out I just hope the next time we visit the mattresses have more padding. .
