We stayed for one night in August as couldnt afford a longer break. There was an excellent deal on which included an evening meal. The food was excellent, freshly cooked and home made. I had the steak pie which I reccommend. There was a good choice of drinks as it is a pub. Our room was great, clean, comfortable etc.... More

Set in a beautiful old stone building. Beams and fireplaces. Excellent staff. Excellent food. I go here at least once a month and they have never let me down. The food is always spectacular. One touch I like is that the menu has locally sourced ingredients. One room is cosy and what I would call oldie worldie and then there... More

We had Father's Day Sunday lunch here. For me, the menu and quality of the food was a level about what you would expect but the service was a disappoinment. It started off okay with a greeting but it was very slow from then on. It seemed an age before our drinks order was taken, then the rest followed in... More

Great roast beef with trimmings for a Sunday Lunch , just very good standard pub food - brilliant. Nothing pretentious.Surroundings can be a little cramped in the main bar area , but this has bags of character and adds to the experience.

We had heard such great things, and were instantly impressed on arrival. Cosy, comfortable yet with an air of 'chic'. Food well presented, fresh and tasty. Dissapointed with only one option for a vegetarian, cheese and onion pie, a little 1990s. But it was delicious and very light. However, the service really didn't reflect where the prices were pitched. Tables... More

Nice lunch if on the high end of the price scale, soda and lime arrived quickly but warm on a hot Sunday, at £1.95 a pint I expect cold drinks. Soup was not hot, probably just put in a cold bowl with cold cream and all served next to someone's dirty ashtray with no condiments. Staff were nice and accommodating... More

We called in for some lunch as our regular eatery was packed on this sunny day . We hadn't eaten here for many years after having a horrible meal - so glad we did !!! The member of staff that was running the bar , and doing all the waiting on was fantastic anything was too much trouble even though... More

A very nice night at a tradition Inn, nice well stocked bar to have a drink first, good staff and food just need to drop a few odd things off the dishes like, past it's best cress and iceberg lettuce. Liked the bread to start and chocolates with the coffee.

I have not stayed here but dropped in for lunch. We were given a friendly welcome and service throughout by the boss and his newly recruited waitress was attentive and helpful. (Old reviews complaining about the service are now out of date!) The bar area was full, so we went in the dining room at the back, from where we... More

Travelling down the M6 from Cumbria to Manchester Airport we were looking for somewhere "family friendly" and not horrible to stop off for a quick lunch. Decided that the Lancaster/Galgate exit looked promising, and by luck we ended up at the Bay Horse. Lovely pub, and the staff were really friendly and helpful: they spontaneously offered that with our small... More
