We arrived with two twin rooms booked, the rooms were family rooms which was fine. There was no issue with the first room. The second room however had not had the put up bed made up. The receptionist sorted this out immediately, however whilst waiting for this we decided to go on to the dawn till dusk terrace which was nothing of the sort it was locked with empty glasses strewn about. The so called grab and go breakfast was perhaps a just go breakfast, just a few variety pack cereals, insufficient milk for two people to have cereal, no cutlery just lots of unwashed plates that had been there on arrival the afternoon before. In fairness the girl on reception tried to be helpful, the lad working with her was useless ( we requested milk for the room, he never brought it). We had been on a walking trip and stayed at 3 different hotels the previous 3 nights, all ranged from satisfactory night 1 to excellent nights 2 and 3. The Lawrence however was by far the most expensive and the most unsatisfactory hotel

We attended for a family wedding. The venue is OK & most off the staff are lovely, but they are COMPLETELY let down by the owner who is without a doubt the RUDEST person I have ever met in my life. My sister, brother-in-law & niece were allocated a family room. Between the wedding breakfast & the night do, my sister put my niece (18 months old) down for a nap in the small room off hers. My niece started to stir and cry a little, so my sister tried to go in to comfort her.... the door was locked!!! My brother-in-law went down to reception to tell them what had happened, only to be told that the door doesn't lock... well it did & it was!! The owner eventually came up, with no key and no tools. He proceeded to ruin my sisters bank card trying to open the door, in the meantime my niece was absolutely distraught and getting more upset by the second, as was her mum! He even tried to say that my niece had locked the door herself from the inside, she is a baby who was in a high sided travel cot at the time, this was an absurd suggestion! He eventually let my husband kick the door down... the owner then left without saying anything. No apology, no show of concern... NOTHING! My husband, seeing that I, my sister, his niece and his mother-in-law were all upset, he went down to reception to speak to the owner to see what he was going to do about the situation. He again offered no apology and only proceeded to be incredibly dramatic saying that my husband and my stepdad were being aggressive and abusive. Which is an outright lie. They were simply & understandably angry about the situation and at the owner's lack of understanding about the gravity of the situation and the massive fire risk a lockable door with no keys is! The wedding was then ruined for them as my niece would not settle for the rest of the day/night and refused to sleep there. This wasn't the only incident over the 2 days, many other guests had run ins with him. Since the incident, my sister has made a formal complaint to which he initially offered a measly Sunday dinner or an overnight stay... they never ever want to return. He then offered a £50 refund but has refused to pay this until I remove my review. The £50 refund was supposed be a gesture of good will to show he was sorry for what happened, NOT as bribery to remove a bad review. The door should never have locked and there should be a key. The room was faulty, so my sister should not have had to pay full price for it. That isn't even taking into account the distress it caused. I will NOT be removing my review. I will be leaving a review everywhere I can leave one. This is NOT about the money, this is principle and we would hate for this to happen again to anyone else. I have read all the other bad reviews and would think you would learn from your mistakes, your passive aggressive responses only cement the fact that we are telling the truth.

Stayed here for a birthday getaway. Alison was lovely on checking in and made us feel more than welcome. The room was lovely and very spacious and we really liked the bathroom. Great tiles and rainforest shower. Good snack and go breakfast available and there are fans and an ice machine if needed. Really glad we stayed here, and being able to bring the dog, made it even better. Thank you.

Stayed over for a friend's wedding, the food was excellent as were alll the staff. The attention to detail throughout the hotel was also excellent. I'd definitely recommend it to anybody thinking of a nice night away with food or even getting married there for that matter. The breakfast the morning after was perfect.

The Lawrence gave us a completely unexpected free room upgrade because we booked directly with them, which was a real treat. We stayed in room 1, the Gawthorpe room which was clean and comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed our stay and would go back.

Attended a wedding - amazing service from the start. Well furnished rooms, Nespresso machine, bathroom toiletries, robes etc. How the chef prepared so many different and well served dishes was great. Lots of choice at breakfast too. Highly recommended.

A lovely hotel with historic features close to Gawthorpe Hall, where we completed the Bronte Way trek. We stayed in a comfortable family room and were grateful to the free tea, coffee and biscuits after a day trekking. There was also a complimentary continental breakfast in the morning. There was a lovely little roof terrace for a quiet drink. For us we loved that it was just a short walk away from our walk's conclusion and situated in the pretty little town of Padiham, with plentiful eateries.

What a fantastic night! Every detail from the Spanish flag bunting to the musician playing Spanish guitar transported us to Spain for the night. We were so lucky to have a hot evening so we could eat outside. I also loved it that we had proper tables and chairs outside with starched white table cloths. The staff were as attentive but unobtrusive as ever. Excellent merlot and reasonably priced. Refreshing sangria included in the tapas package. The food was authentic and utterly delicious. 10/10
