Hotel's Favorite
It was just sweet escape from a bit crowded Taormina and perfect ending of our Sisilian trip. This place is really romantic, probably the most romantic place I have ever been! Gorgeous view right on Etna and mountains, lots of flowers, beautiful pool area, great restaurant and bar and superb service! Our room was just wow, especially shower overlooking the gardens. My pictures will tell about the interior of the hotel, I admired every detail and there was a feeling that I was in a different era😍 The hotel has its own beach, with comfortable sun loungers and a bar - everything in order to enjoy the wonderful clear sea. We really enjoyed this place thanks to the serene mood, the incredible beauty of nature around and of course the excellent work of management! If you are looking for a place for privacy, tranquility and gastronomic pleasures, then here you will find what you are looking for! The only one suggestion to the hotel team is to add SPA treatments, this will perfectly suit the atmosphere of pure relaxation! Good luck!

Cannot praise this hotel highly enough- whole experience made extra special by the wonderful staff - especially Marco at the pool who was always smiling regardless of the high heat ! Best pool that we have ever experienced in that it was never full and peaceful all day - dinner in the courtyard was magical and the easy access to the private area of the beach made a nice change from the wonderful pool - Hotel is approx 15-20 minutes from Taormina and taxis werent cheap (approx 30 euros one way ) but the tranquillity of the hotel more than made up for being away from the centre of town - already looking at dates to return !

Thanks for the compliments to our staff, the true richness of our destination together with the unique features of this place. We enjoyed the staff and service and details of the hotel and spa. The staff was excellent, breakfast a sweet start to each day, the pool and lunch by the pool one of our favorite options. The wine bar was fantastic!!! Every evening a new lovely couple and friends celebrated their wedding. only concern is the limited number of rooms available at the hotel. As it is a bit remote from Taormina come prepared for either the public bus, or scheduling cabs, as there isn't much in the ways of uber convenience.

we had a great holiday at Castello San Marco, a superbly renovation castle dating back to 1600. our apartment was spacious and extremely confortable with a nice veranda under the grapevine. every member of the staff, from the concierge to the pool bar, including the restaurant Giardino di Pietra (not to be missed) and the wine bar (I 2 Palmenti: must try) were extremely helpful and kind. the pool is well maintained and this hotel offers a direct access to a private beach: great service there as well.

Restaurant Giardino di Pietra - by San Marco Castle hotel- Calatabiano - near Taormina, Sicily, Italy, June 2022 The excellent gourmet restaurant Giardino di Pietra is in a courtyard of the Castle San Marco, open only in the evening upon reservation and with extra payment (payment not included in the accommodation fee). The tables are perfectly set up with excellent quality table cloths. The staff is very kind and up to the place. We have always enjoyed fish dishes of Sicilian haute cuisine. At our request they also prepared us courgette flowers with sardines and, to follow, tuna rolls: excellent delicious dishes. As first course they also prepare a very good sicilian-style risotto, gnocchi and spaghetti, following recipes of the local haute cuisine. The red snapper in salt crust was also a haute cuisine dish, like smoked amberjack fish fillet. All the dishes are prepared at the moment. There is a high quality of red vintage Sicilian wines. The prices are fair for the restaurant's level.

This year we have chosen Sicily just because we found a direct return flight from our town to Catania. We chose this location because it is an oasis of real green only 45' from Catania airport and about 20' from Taormina. All the one-floor buildings, which is where the rooms are located, are in the green, and the castle is surrounded by a luxurious, very wide and well kept garden, with a lot of Mediterranean botanical species, like palms, lemon and orange trees, bougainvillea flowers, rosemary etc. a real heaven on earth, difficult to find. There is also a vegetable garden with organic plants, like tomatoes, green salad, eggplant etc. that we can find at the restaurant in the dish of the day. It is possible to reach the beach by walking along a narrow path through a fragrant eucalyptus tree forest; it is only 50 meters from the garden. The beach is of volcanic black pebbles, clean, perfectly kept and is guarded by two lifeguards. Reef shoes are highly recommended for walking and entering the sea. The sea water is clear and cold, in contrast with the hot outside temperature and immediately becomes deep at a distance of 1.6 meters from the shoreline. The beach extends for kilometers on the right and on the left side and you can walk for a long distance. Deck chairs, gazebos and umbrellas are very functional and available at an extra fee. Breakfast is served in an internal courtyard, where everything is perfectly prepared. At self service you can enjoy a huge quantity of local sweets and biscuits, fresh fruit, honeycomb honey, various types of jams, including that of figs, various types of fresh bread. On request, typical Sicilian dishes of cheeses and cured meats, as well as freshly prepared suflee. Nothing is missing, even for the most demanding palates. At noon, at the pool bar, you can enjoy excellent quick dishes and salads, sitting in the shaded surrounding park. The staff is very kind, up to the hotel and bilingual, with a perfect English. They gave us the room number 39, and took us there with a caddy. This is a deluxe garden-side room, a very quiet place. This room is like a suite, with a wide anteroom, bedroom and a bath with a small window and a comfortable shower, although a magnifying mirror and tissues are missing. In the main room there is a kettle for water, but the coffee machine is missing. In the bedroom and living room there are no coat hangers. in the wardrobe, the hangers are anti-theft, which are very uncomfortable and located at a high height. All the windows of the rooms are equipped with comfortable mosquito nets. The bathroom linen is of excellent quality. In conclusion, a wonderful place where to come back soon.

We stayed 5 days and could have stayed forever. The staff are excellent - grazie Flavia, Marco & Antonio - and all others too. Our room was immaculate every day, the food great, the drinks and service at the bar was always great. Our kids loved the pool and the breakfast. They organised a hire car for us and a helicopter tour over Etna - both highly recommended businesses as well. Grazie di tutto e a presto!

I am renting the suit and paying the price of 650 per night and there was no hot water in the room. It was not possible take a shower. I believe that total with the four stars should have hot water. I am repeated client - i’m coming to this hotel over the three years three times. I am very disappointed with the behavior of Reception, they were not polite, they were screaming at me … etc

Amazing, proactive and friendly staff - Flavia, Giorgio, Antonio, Alexandra and Cinzia could not have been more helpful. Early season so things were quiet but the swimming pool is fantastic (although a bit chilly at this time of year). The location of the hotel is perfect with views of Etna across the orchards and gardens, the setting is so tranquil and the hotel itself has an endearing cultural charm tastefully renovated whilst retaining authentic imperfections. The restaurant was fabulous we ate there on our last evening and the kitchen did a great job catering for 2 small children as well. Our daily breakfast was an absolute treat! Access to Etna and lots of wineries, cultural and fabulous Sicilian fresh cuisine/attractions of Savoca, Taormina and Giardini Naxos a short ride away (car hire an expensive necessity on Sicily). Not forgetting the private beach access which whilst closed during our stay looked inviting enough. All in all it was a fabulous holiday and I cannot recommend the hotel enough.

This is a very magical place in the heart of Calatabiano close by the beach. We had a very nice spacious and clean room with a view of the beautifully maintained gardens. As well this place has a great service, good bar and a peaceful pool area. Thanks to all the pleasant staff who made me and my childhood friend feel so special. We would so love to come back... I highly recommend it to any of you, definitely a must. ♡
