Grande Albergo Claviere is a three-star, family-run hotel along with a team of friendly and helpful staff whose top priority is to make sure that your ski holiday is packed with great memories. Constructed in 1921, it is now a historic building with several murals on the walls of the bar and lounge area depicted by the famous Italian artist Fellan. Some of the first guests were Prince Umberto and Princess Maria Jose - Crowned Prince and Princess of Italy as shown on the potrait located at the hotel's entrance. The hotel has a very strategic location: adjacent to the French border, it is only a short walk from the nearest ski lift and the village center. It has 38 clean and comfortable rooms, a spacious ski room, a big dining room, all-inclusive bar from 4:30-10:30 pm and a very organised childcare service.

Some poor reviews here but we had nothing but a fantastic time. Hotel was as expected and staff were great. Food was okay, warm and plenty of it. Rooms were fine and had plenty of hot water, beds comfortable and plenty of storage space. The Rep from Crystal was dire. Knew nothing, smelt like an old ash tray and had zero interest in anything apart from telling everyone how hard done by she was. I've been on many holidays but she was by far the biggest waste of space I have ever come across. Luckily the hotel manager Debbie was good, she answered all our questions and recommended the ski hire shop on the piste for our gear. The guys in that shop were amazing, Deano, the English guy, was so helpful and knowledgeable about the gear on offer. He was able to customise our rental gear to the way we like to ski and gave us a nice discount too, in fact i've never paid so little for top quality ski hire!! We also had ski and heated boot deposit in the shop for €15 for the week. An absolute bargain compared to the other place. The snow for March was really good and the ski area in Claviere was in great condition (if a little limited). We had the French and Italian ski pass which was well worth the money and we skied in France a lot. The one day on the Milky Way was included and we took a bus to Sestriere and skied there and Sauze D'Oulx which was great fun. Would definitely stay and ski here again!

The hotel, is basic some of the rooms are small. The location is good for access to the lifts and also getting back? Staff are good, the main issue was that the food wasn't up to scratch, Basic ! The main problem was that during our stay at least half of the hotel guests and some of the staff suffered sickness and vomiting.......although they cleaned the hotel, it kept serving food All week. On occasions the restaurant was almost empty because of illness and the fear of getting I'll. Crystal did little to advise or offer alternatives / offer to help for the loss of ski days?

Most of the reviews say basic and say to not listen to the bad reviews... here's the truth! Good Parts - Hotel room was basic but nice with a balcony but was too warm at night - Good shower in the bathroom. - Hotel staff were really nice and did their best to be accommodating - Not far to walk from a nearby flattish slope so could get ski gear on reasonably quickly Bad Parts: - I would not recommend this hotel for any couple as it's mostly beneficial for families. - Breakfast (cold buffet) was really the only thing we enjoyed. The rest of the food was either basic / horrible. Generally the three course meals were horrible. One desert we had was a dodgy warmed up apple. - The table cloths were reused in the mornings so were all dirty from the evening before. This also didn't help with a bug going round the hotel which everyone was getting sick from. - The plates and wine carafe's were all chipped. We couldn't believe it when a waitress brought us out a new carafe of wine with a giant chip in the top. This is not acceptable. - Lunch was a sorry looking sandwich with stale bread. This meant we basically ate dinner up the mountain everyday. Overall really disappointing as we love to ski. Last year we stayed at the Hotel Du Col in Sestriere (on the same piste map) where we paid the same amount the week before Christmas and the food / accommodation was exceptional. Ignore the basic reviews, this time the hotel really let us down.

Just returned from a week here. Booked through Crystal this was our 4th Crystal ski holiday and unfortunately the hotel did not compare well to previous holidays. The hotel itself was well placed. It was clean and the room we were in had lovely views to the rear of the hotel and looked onto the slopes so it was lovely to sit on the balcony and have the sun streaming into the room. The room itself was as mentioned acceptable. Basic as to be expected for ski hotels. The bathroom had an hairdryer and sachets of shampoo and body gel if you didn't bring your own. The heating in the room was unbearable at times. Far too hot and it appeared to peak between 0130 and 0330 when the room was boiling which made it uncomfortable to sleep. Signs in the room advise you not to touch the radiators as it would affect the whole hotel's heating system. The main issue for us was the food. Previous reviews have said it is basic and I think this was an understatement. Breakfast was ok-hot and cold choices but no variation-the same every day. You could order a packed lunch but the sandwiches were very basic and not particularly edible. We ended up eating every lunch by the ski school on the slopes which did great panini etc. Dinner consisted of an ok salad buffet as a start, then the 2nd course was usually pasta which was ok the majoirty of nights. The 3rd course was meat or vegetarian and it was not nice. Most nights chips were the side, no veg. Dessert was ok. Beware if you ask for the cheese you get a slice of cheese and 2 x biscuits. Afternoon tea-a small cube of sponge cake and that is it. Not what is expected from past experience at Crystal ski hotels Staff were there doing their job but did not seem overly friendly or enthusiastic. In summary clean hotel but ruined by the poor quality of food provided and not to the standard we would expect from Crystal and for the amount of money paid. We went with another company last year and most likely will go with them in following years as if this is the standard of Crystal hotels now it has put us off booking with them again

We stayed for a week ski-ing in January. Rooms large but need a complete refit. Food, breakfast plentiful and with scrambled egg & bacon everyday with either beans or porridge plus all the usual cold items very nice. Packed lunch included so have it. Dinner was hit and miss salad bar every night good, the other 3 courses don't get to excited. Boot room large with heated racks. Bar excellent all drinks included were good quality and Alex & Randy are the best they looked after us very well. Frederika is so helpful and charming. Debora is probably one of the best hotel managers we have had in over 40 ski holidays well done and thank all you hard working staff. Skiing is great but Italy you need to spend a few bobs on your lifts. Hospitality in the mountains excellent as usual. Le Caesar restaurant in Montgenièvre is a must for lunch if you ski that way.
