The pros: the hotel was clean, the new infinity pool and bar was nice with a good view. The cons: the staff does not provide 5 star service. We came on our honeymoon which was never acknowledged. We stayed at 4 other 5 star hotels throughout our honeymoon that all went above and beyond. When we pulled up to the reception, no one helped us with our bags or came out to greet us. The breakfast was a bit lackluster. The vibe of the hotel was also a bit strange. It seemed as though no one was staying there (never anyone by the pool or in common areas). It was very hard to find the amenities around the property (no map or proper signage). Lastly, the design was very simple and a little tacky.

There are so many good things that I can say about this hotel. While we were there (for two weeks) the pool area was perfect for us. Big enough to have a swim, kept very clean - and the view! Just gorgeous. There were only about 18 sun beds set up around the pool (some of which were cabana style) and they were spread out, so it felt very relaxing and uncluttered. A really tranquil area to sit out in. The staff were exceptional too. At the front desk, the concierge, the restaurant and bar staff, the cleaners and drivers - all so polite, friendly and helpful. Grazie a tutti! (We try to speak Italian when in Italy, and the staff were very patient and accommodating as we did our best.) The breakfast was possibly the best breakfast I've had in an Italian hotel. Beautifully laid out, with a huge amount of choice - fruit, yoghurt, pastries, meats, cheese, breads - and you could have eggs too. Sitting outside to eat - you had that same beautiful view - such a relaxing way to start the day. Lunches too had that same relaxing vibe. We didn't eat in the restaurant at night, but chose to walk the 15 mins or so into Cannigione - a nice walk along the front. There's a lovely infinity pool in the hotel grounds, but it's up a bit of a hill, and as we were there when the weather was (over)heating up we stayed at the lower pool. The rooms are situated up a hill, so if you do book, it's worth checking where your room will be - if you have any concerns about hills. We still had a few steps to go up, and we were quite low down, but it was good exercise. You do have to ask the concierge or reception for information about excursions, suggested activities etc - but they are really helpful when you do. We did the yacht day trip, which was very relaxing. We also went to the nearby beach (the hotel will drive you along and pick you up) and it was fine. A little bit stoney, but nothing horrific. And we got the full Italian experience - surrounded by Italian families with all their enthusiasm and chat - it was a great experience. We just loved the Villa del Golfo, and would definitely go back.

We stayed 7 nights at this hotel but we will never go back again! The positive points are the following: - the location is nice with a beautiful view; - the staff at the restaurant is amazing, big up for them; - the concierge is reactive and professional; - the room is clean. The negative points are these ones: - the access to the rooms is not ideal with many irregular stairs, so if you plan to wear heels or are not trained, better avoid the place; - the room is very basic, with no luxury equipments; - the access to the bath is complicated even if you are tall as you have a quite high wall to walk through; - the air conditioning is very noisy and the curtains let the light enter, so you don’t sleep well; - the balcony was small and full of ants; - the bed was not comfortable; we asked for a smoother one and they provided us with a topper, which helped a bit but it was still not comfy and we had back pain because of that; - the breakfast is ok but always the same: you expect better in a five stars hotel; - the parking is not big enough for the number of rooms, so you’d better not come too late to the hotel; - there is no iron in the bedrooms and no solution for your clothes except using the paying laundry of the hotel; - we asked for a late checkout but this was impossible per principle for them; we felt that they did not want to make any effort; - the towels for the swimming pool are old and not fancy as you would expect in such hotel; - last but not least they messed up with our invoice and charged some services twice: luckily we checked but otherwise we would have lost 580 euros! This is unacceptable! We asked for a detailed invoice but were told that it was not possible! No excuse from the receptionist and she even told me I could have spotted that before! When I asked questions she said: “do you understand what I mean??” by using a very condescending tone as if I was an idiot but luckily I was smart enough to check my bill. I had to wait two weeks to get my refund but never got the final invoice. - Finally we paid 500 euros per night and this is theft considering that there is nothing luxurious be it the service or the infrastructure in this place! We don’t recommend this place that we find overrated and strongly advise to pass your way. Sardinia is beautiful and you can have far better for the same price!

My sister & I stayed at Villa Del Golfo in Sardinia for a sister trip away & we were extremely disappointed from the start of our trip. We will defiantly not be recommending to anyone - certainly not a five star luxurious hotel as we anticipated. Please see below a list of reasons why our trip was a disaster from start to finish. 1. Our first morning at the hotel was a disaster to be honest, we arrived & was not directed around the resort at all. We asked reception where the new pool was and the lady told us to ‘follow the stairs up’ We were lost and confused, luckily a guy driving a golf buggy showed us the new pool. We then come to find that the pool was actually shut so we had to walk all the way back down from mountains with our large beach bags and in flip flops - as you can imagine, not the easiest. 2. We then spoke to Concierge and the lady was not helpful and extremely passive aggressive. We ended up not using her for any bookings as she was very rude. 3. Regarding breakfast, there was not that many options to offer – basically just cold cured meats, fruit & some cereal options. We asked the waiter staff to see the menu for the hot options, they did not have a menu and just read out and listed options of eggs & omelette. Our first morning we asked for an iced coffee and they gave us hot coffee and then a plate of ice. The service every morning was extremely slow and we had to wait ages for condiments, for example, maple syrup - consequently resulting to our food getting cold. The orange juice tasted off and like it had sparkling water in it – we also had to wait every morning for 15-20 minutes before even being served. 4. We rung reception and asked for an iron for our clothes, they said no and that we had to pay to have our clothes ironed. Never heard of this before in any hotels I have stayed at previously. 5. The air con kept switching off all night, we had countless interrupted sleeps throughout the whole of our stay. We rung reception to see if someone could come and look at it and no one did. We then called a second time, the manager come to our room and claimed there was ‘nothing wrong with the air con’ Our mini fridge & tv did not work in the room either. 6. The bedroom was not sound proof, we were constantly woken up 7. We rung reception and asked for an iron for our clothes, they said no and that we had to pay to have our clothes ironed. Never heard of this before in any hotels I have stayed at previously. 8. The lunch pool menu has 3 dishes to offer which were all pre-made and unappetising – we tried but couldn’t actually eat the food as it was so bad. There wasn’t actually any pool side snacks / service around the pool at all – which you expect at a 5 star hotel. 9. We asked for a hot chocolate and it was heated actual chocolate in a small cup. 10. The staff were so rude, not helpful & very passive aggressive. When we complained to the manager on our second day, he did nothing to resolve it. Above were a few of the many reasons why we were very disappointed with our stay at the hotel & overall trip to be honest. We will defiantly not be recommending to anyone - certainly not a five star luxurious hotel as we anticipated & what is advertised on their website.

We just came back from two weeks traveling in Italy (sardinia & amalfi coast) and our time spent in Sardinia at Villa del Golfo was our favorite. From the moment we checked into the hotel, we were treated so great! The service is truly incredibly. So welcoming, kind, and helpful. The property is absolutely stunning at all hours of the day. It smelled like honeysuckle and fresh herbs every where you went. The flowers and grounds were so beautifully maintained. Our room was beautiful. The water pressure is in the shower was one of the best we've ever had and the tub was large! We had a beautiful patio overlooking the water and would take afternoon naps on lounge chairs in the robes (provided) after a lovely day enjoying the sun deck. We had cocktails or wine every night before dinner at the pool side bar which was one of the favorite parts of our day. Breakfast is a beautiful spread, was always fresh, and service was excellent. We looked forward to enjoying our cappuccino and taking in the beautiful view while dining on fresh fruit, pastries, and local cheeses. Teresa helped us set up dinner reservations, excursions (Sailing boat, massages, wine tasting), and a rental car. She was truly so wonderful! The day we spent sailing to the Madallena islands was one of the best days we've ever had. The sailboat is beautiful, the water is incredible, and they serve such a lovely meal on board. You will be treated like royalty. We had an incredible sommelier at their sister resort, Cascioni where we did a private wine tasting and learned all about the different wine regions in Sardinia. At Cascioni, we had spa treatments and enjoyed their fresh brewed teas, saunas, and plunge pools. We later had dinner that night at Ulia, their restaurant which was INCREDIBLE. The olive oil and honey, made in house, is some of the best we have ever had! The resort is quiet, peaceful, and a slice of paradise! We cannot wait for our next trip back and to explore more of Sardinia. Thank you to the entire staff at Villa del Golfo for an incredible vacation! Kayla & Jon

The resort is a complex from the 80s set in the middle of a complex of holiday villas in “ fake”Sardinian style. The hotel overlooks Cala dei Ginepri but it is not on the seafront as some of their web site pictures may lead you to believe. In between the hotel and the coast you have two roads and a large car park that you need to cross to reach the hotel private sea deck. The sea deck is about 80m long, faces shallow rocky waters that are not as clear as you would expect in Sardinia given that this part of the bay area is not facing the open sea. Much better to take the shuttle to Spiaggia Bruciata where the hotel has a partnership with a local beach club. Here the sea and beach are beautiful but do not expect anything fancy. You get a regular sun bed with umbrella, no other services provided. The hotel hands you out a beach towel (no courtesy bag) that you need to carry over and back. The shuttle drops you off on the edge of the main road and you have to walk about five minutes through a car park before reaching the beach. Should you want a drink or something to eat there is a basic kiosk nearby or you can stroll ten minutes along the beach where you come across Lido Mannena beach club which is much better and with a very nice open air restaurant overlooking the sea. The Mannena beach club is not part of the hotel, so everything you take here is extra and you need to book/organise by yourself. Back to the hotel, staff is very kind but mostly junior and inexperienced, thus service at the hotel restaurant is far from impeccable. Menu selection is poor and food ranges from poor (starters) to mediocre (main courses). Do not go for catch of the day - premium price for farmed sea bass and dorada. Breakfast is also disappointing with limited selection and mediocre quality of both pastries, breads and cold cuts. Watch out for “fresh” fruits: often mouldy, no properly peeled or brought back one day to the next (pineapple / watermelon typically). The restaurant faces the pool with views over the sea: unfortunately the local road is just next to the restaurant terrace so you will hear cars passing by rather than waves from the sea. The hotel is also larger than what you may expect, certainly not an intimate seaside Villa. There is a new infinity pool at the top of the resort with beautiful views but it is rather small and good for a plunge (no swimming). The bar is extraordinarily expensive (€18 each) which is about three times more what you would expect to spend for that basic drink anywhere else in Italy. Served with peanuts and some very tired crisps: this is actually as basic as it can get but with a rather stellar charge. All in all this place is four stars at best, with OK rooms but very mediocre amenities, basic TV, no Nespresso machine, no turndown service. Feels like a bit of a touristy trap for foreigners who would come once in a lifetime to Costa Smeralda and not return. If you have been to Sardinia before and experienced proper five star sea facing resorts, here you may be very disappointed. A positive note to conclude is about Cascioni eco retreat, a nearby property owned by the same management and part of SLH. We went for dinner and the food experience was excellent and so the atmosphere and service. Contrary to Villa del Golfo, Cascioni is truly five stars. Sadly after a gorgeous dinner long wait for the shuttle back to villa del Golfo as they just send one when all guests are finished.

We have just returned from a week here - overall it was a disappointing experience. In reality this is a 3 star hotel not a 5 star. Upon arrival we were shown to a room up at least six flights of external steps which was difficult for my husband as he recently had a hip replacement - the hotel happily changed our room. We were unable to get in touch with reception from our room as the phone lines were broken (this lasted for five of our seven days) the following day the WiFi stopped working and was out of action until the day before we left!!! The ladies on reception had no details of any of the excursions/experiences listed and explained that they didn’t supply information packs in the rooms as they encouraged us to use the app on our phone (but there was no WiFi so that wasn’t an option) - the concierge was not very helpful and didn’t offer any information. The hotel is advertised as “beachfront” but to access the “beach” it was necessary to cross two main roads which led us to an area of decking with sun loungers (about 15 in total) and there is a charge to use this. There is no beach in sight!!! The breakfast was average - but again no information was forthcoming on what was on offer - the menu for dinner each evening (despite being assured at reception that it was changed daily) was the same for the seven days we were there with very little choice. On the first two evenings our meals were cold/lukewarm - although this did improve slightly when we suggested they serve the food on hot plates!!!. We went to the Colti Farmhouse twice via shuttle and that was slightly better but again the menu was repetitive. We were unfortunate enough to have rain whilst there (obviously not the fault of the hotel) but the roof of our verandah leaked so badly that all the cushions and clothes got soaking wet. There is absolutely no privacy between the adjoining verandahs - a proper division would have been better. We also had to contend with hoards of ants from the ants nests at the top of our step. There is a kettle in the room with two tea bags and four sachets of coffee but despite asking repeatedly we had no milk. All in all not worth the premium they are charging for a five star hotel that is clearly lacking and is a three star at best.

After delays leaving London we finally arrived in Olbia where the hotel has kindly arranged transfers to the hotel via private company so we didn't have the stress of finding a taxi( approx. 25 minutes drive £70 each way). Upon arriving at villa del golfo we were greeted by a lovely concierge who told us about the room and a little about the hotel.(best to scan the digital concierge at reception for more details or in your room) We was then taken to our room via golf buggy which was fun!. We where staying in a suite but was informed we had been upgraded complimentary which meant we stayed in a suite with a private pool. The hotel is suited in a small town on cannigione which is 10 minute walk down the promenade along the shore line where you can find places to eat and drink and local supermarket for supplies. The hotel uses WhatsApp for restaurant bookings and request which I found super helpful when deciding on last minute restaurants etc when out for the day. And was always super quick to reply. The hotel is spread over a relatively big area our room 702 was just a short walk via shortcut to the main reception and pool and had great views of the location. The accommodation is veryclean, tidy with comfortable sofa and bed with fridge(non alcoholic beverages such as water and cola)and authentic Sardinian design which I wanted not ultra modern with no personality. The whole hotel is very well maintained and looks very cared for with beautiful flowers. We had Delicious cocktail drinks at Mira Luna lounge on several nights the 2 gentlemen there very polite and courteous. And a delicious pizza, pasta at The cutter lounge down the road. We also did the authentic Sardinian set menu at la colti. One of the waiters was a bit rushy but we found this comical. Reed reviews before you go to know what to expect. Breakfast is a mix of continental and Italian cheese and meat cuts. You also have option of eggs scrambled ,etc. We asked reception for maps of the area on our 1st full day which where greatly appreciated and helped guide us whilst we where there. Overall we had a really pleasant stay and would like to thank everyone who helped during the time, always friendly and answering requests. Compared to other 5 star hotels I've stayed in. I would give this hotel 4.5 stars. See below reason. *Note no iron allowed or available at this resort but they do offer a ironing service which I feel they could easily adjust because who knows what you want to wear each day. So iron your clothes before you go is a recommendation if not wanting to use the service. Also Wi-Fi didn't work which we was informed about at check in on Sunday and remained like this until Weds/ Thursday unfortunately. We didn't use room service as wasn't needed but €30 euro charge for something sent to room seemed high. I've not seen this in many other 5 star hotels I've stayed in. Tips for the hotel. Blankets for guests sitting outside for cool nights, milk sachet in room to use for the tea coffee machine. Table or additional sun loungers at back of room 702 for afternoon sun as the space was wasted and has potential to be a nice afternoon sun spot. Weather/Season/Area Stayed Mid May fortunate to have great weather it was expected to rain all week but we had sunshine every day little windy so take a jumper or light jacket. Its very quite in May most things open from June and local busses etc. from that time if wanting to use local transport.

There were a number of things that made our stay with this hotel less than ideal. In the end we really wish we had chosen to stay elsewhere (like the hotel we stayed in immediately prior to coming here, which was officially only 4 stars, but incredible). We were travelling with a young child, and while they don't officially say 'no children', it seems that they do a lot to discourage it. Most alarmingly, the high chair they provided for meals was broken (or possibly, no one in the restaurant knew how to properly set it up) and constantly partially collapsing inwards on our 18 month old. This is obviously a real hazard. They also wanted to charge us 30 euros a night for a cot. Though they did end up waiving this after some discussion, I was pretty surprised as we have travelled extensively with our child and have never before been asked to pay for a cot. There were also a number of non-child related issues: We were placed in a depressing, ground level room. It had a bit of an odour and there were ants constantly swarming our patio. Try to get an upper floor room if possible. The toiletries were a mix of different brands (weird), and the 'intimate wash' (whatever that is) had the seal broken and was half empty (ew). Their idea of decor was a few empty picture frames clustered on the wall. The pool area is pretty but small. We went in shoulder season and it was completely full every day. That was even with lots of cycling groups staying there who were out cycling most of the day, so I cannot imagine what it's like in high season. It's also right next to a main road so that dampens the atmosphere somewhat. They charge 15 euro for an aperol spritz. I feel like that should be a crime in Italy. Most of the front desk staff was pretty unhelpful, and borderline rude on occasion. Thankfully, there were a few friendly people in the restaurant and the bar (and indeed, ONE at the front desk) to help balance it out. On the whole, however, not a very service-oriented hotel, and definitely not worthy of 5 stars (in any sense).

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Villa Del Golfo, although we had unfortunate rainy & cold weather (obviously not the hotels fault at all), we felt the stay was overall pretty average. Our room was spacious and the housekeeping staff had great turndown service, breakfast was good, & all of the waiters in the restaurant & staff were friendly, fun and extremely helpful! We felt that this hotel was extremely overpriced for what you get, there was no communication at check in, we kind of just had to figure things out as went through each day. We paid extra for the “beach package”, when we finally took advantage of it we were shocked by what this package actually entails… a lounger on a beach about 10 min away… no towels, no water NOTHING! We laughed about it to be honest- the beach package, as well as most everything about the hotel, was extremely over sold. The hotel charges you for everything, $30 service fee to have a bottle of wine delivered to the room. They seemed understaffed & unorganized. We felt this area is extremely touristy & the hotel has great potential to truly be a 5* hotel. However at the moment, it is not worth the $$ and is not 5*
