This hotel is isolated and out of the way but perfect if you're looking for a relaxing, secluded place to stay. There were very few guests at the hotel when we were there, so it seemed like we had the whole place to ourselves. The beach is good for swimming, and the pool is also nice. Food at the restaurant was decent. Our room was large and had everything we needed.Staff were friendly and helpful.

Far away and isolated. Very pretty grounds- beach is beautiful but could be rough. Rooms were beautiful and well decorated. We needed air conditioning as it was very very hot and humid without. The pool was small and very warm. Rooms have kitchens but are not stocked with anything to cook with. Staff was very helpful and attentive- however difficult to get what you need quickly as there are no telephones in the rooms and light staff in the evening. Food was good but buffet breakfast a bit uncomfortable to take from as the options are on small plates manned by staff. You are asked to choose what you'd like in the morning for lunch and dinner- so if you have a change of plans or are not sure how your day will be it is not easy to find food- nothing is close by or reachable on foot. Security was good and helpful. This would be best as a romantic vacation to disconnect. For us it was difficult as we were using the hotel as a home base to attend a party near by. Very off the beaten path and difficult driving at night to reach the hotel. Only wifi in restaurant and was spotty. No tvs in room. Could be a lovely place to be for a couple looking for quiet romance or a group that want to just hang out at the hotel.

Response from Christoph K, General Manager at Baoba Beach

Thank you Robin for your comments and input The concept of Baoba Beach is a hide away for reading a book (or e-book), disconnecting, having a massage, a yoga lesson, enjoy the private beach. We try to be eco friendly, only some apts have a/c on a special request and a bit higher rate. We will work to improve breakfast and restaurant service, thank you for letting us know Cheers Anais Lopez

With this being my first time visiting the Dominican Republic, staying at the Baoba Beach Resort was definitely the perfect way to begin this vacation! From the convenience of being picked up at Santo Domingo Airport by the resort driver, to having the friendly staff welcome us with prepared dinner even though we arrived after hours from the airport. The staff received us with warm smiles and ready to serve us as we sat down. The rooms are so cozy and enchanting. The minute I called it a night and went to bed, I had one of the best night's sleep I've had in a long time! All I can hear was the waves of the beach in the background! I enjoyed the personalized menu as the staff prepared all three meals. OMG the Mangu!!!! I just can't get over how delicious it was! (It's a traditional Dominican dish) And there's also the drink service delivered to the beach.... I didn't even have to ask and I was catered to like royalty. This place is the much needed break I was looking for from my crazy busy schedule back in the States. The fact that you can be beachside and get lost in thought for hours enjoying the sun and the ambience is priceless! The only thing I regret is having to go back home. But I will certainly return soon! You must go check this place out for yourself!!

We stayed at Baoba with our family which included our toddler and my husband´s grandmother who is in her 80s. They were very accommodating with our rooms, as they gave us a first floor adjacent rooms and received us in the most welcoming manner. It seemed to be low season, as we were the only guests on the property. The rooms were very spacious, well lit and comfortable. The bathroom and showers were great, especially for our special needs, with a toddler and and elderly. The rooms were beachfront, but the beach was not particularly nice, so we ended up visiting other beaches within short distances. Dinner was very expensive and not very tasty, despite being the only guests the hotel, the service at dinner was horrible. They had three waitresses and yet we had to wait a long time for dinner and to receive our drinks. Overall it was a nice stay, but not particularly a favourite for us.

Baoba Beach although remote and off the beaten path is ideal for groups of friends, or for couples who simply want to enjoy nature and enjoy the peace and quite. Checking in on a Monday during low season provided us peace, tranquility and few other guests. Gabriele was very accommodating and checked in on us electronically to make sure all was as we desired. I find that service is typically slow in the Caribbean, but at Baoba Beach, Melvin would appear whenever needed. The attentive service provided by Melvin and the other friendly staff was a delight and an unexpected pleasure. From our arrival, Melvin was always there to assist - from carrying our luggage to bringing ice-cold Presidente beer to us on the beach or at the pool. The staff ensured the enjoyable private beach was always cleaned of any organic debris. No plastic or trash to be seen! They even brought chairs to the beach for us. If you rise early, you can find some really nice seashells near the rocks. The pool was nice, warm and clean. We enjoyed lounging poolside and looking to the sea through the grove of swaying coconut trees. Baoba Beach is a good location for home base to explore in each direction. To the south heading towards Nagua you will drive along the ocean with coconut trees on both sides of the road providing a beautiful drive. If you need provisions, you should probably get them in Nagua. Nearby and to the north before you get to Cabrera is Laguna Dudú, a park with Tiano Indian caves (bring a flashlight!) and large "sweet water" holes where you can jump on or simply gaze at the fish swimming in the clear fresh water. A bit farther past Cabrera heading towards Río San Juan, is the beautiful and magnificent Playa Grande and the smaller but spectacular Playa Precioso, both are a must see and only separated by a thin strip of land and rocks covered with thick vegetation that juts out into the ocean. From the beach of Playa Precioso, looking back, the landscape looks like something out of Jurassic Park, large rock walls and towering coconut palms ruling from above. We found the ocean at Playa Grande (about a 30 minute drive from Baoba Beach) to be the best place to enjoy the ocean waters – a very wide and long beach with crystal clear waters with slowly shifting sandbars that allow you to walk out into the ocean rather far and still be only knee deep… Probably the highlight of our exploration. Things to know… Cabrera and the surrounding area is rural and very much cow country... Lots of farms with cows grazing the lush landscape. In this rather poor and rural setting bring all your supplies, as there aren’t any supermarkets nearby. They do have a nice restaurant on site where we enjoyed breakfast each morning and then a couple of dinners. We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of this hidden gem.
