This family run pension near Plitvice Lakes National Park is a real gem. The hosts, father and son team Dario and Karlo who both speak good English, offer a warm welcome to their pretty country style chalet. The rooms are small and cosy but well appointed with a quaint rustic charm. It is situated just a short 15 minute drive from the National Park and Dario will give you a rundown of the best routes around the park to get the most from your visit. Breakfast is served in the dining room and includes a good range of options (including gluten free) and with a variety of home made produce such as elderberry juice, elderberry and plum jam, smoked meats, sausages and free range eggs cooked to order. They will prepare dinner for you after your busy day at the park if you request it. We came home to the smell of slow cooked wild boar goulash with polenta followed by by raspberry sponge cake. It was delicious. We were also treated to Dario's home made chardonnay whilst sitting outside in the beautiful flower garden. Staying at this pension was truly one of the highlights of our Croatian travel experience.…
If you are going to Plitvička or plan on hiking, you will love this place. Dario is a great host, he knows how to make you feel at home. Don't forget to try the homemade sausages at breakfast they are great!
The food is amazing. The breakfast is amazing. The experience was so good that I would like to come back to this place with my entire family. Just loved it. The owner is very humble and down to earth. Amazing chap!
What an amazing place! The cutest little hunting lodge only 15 minutes by car from Plitvice Lakes. The rooms are cozy but very clean and the hospitality cannot be beaten. Dario is so very welcoming and full of information. Sonja's breakfasts and dinners were amazing and if you have time do the quad bike tour with Branco, we absolutely loved it. Mrzlin Grad welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel like family, thank you so much for making our visit so memorable.
Our host sat down with us for an hour when we arrived, gave us some cold refreshments and shared great stories about the history of Mrzlin Grad, and his life style as a hunter, farmer and nature lover. Could not have been better start, the food is made by the host, is outstanding, and we totally loved our 2 night stay. Now, for the could have been better. 1) We had single beds, and if you are 6’2”(187 cm) they will be too short. 2) If you are having trouble sleeping, then you will notice that between 340am and 400am that damn rooster starts crowing. Other guests were very friendly and we enjoyed sharing wine and travel stories. I agree with the review that says.. just go... I would love to go back.
