Firstly I just want to say we had a lovely stay at the hotel. Great facilities, very clean, friendly and helpful staff, good location. Thanks to all the very hardworking staff who made it great, from reception to the restaurant, to the cleaners and the animation team. I've decided to try and give some useful info about the resort from our family perspective. Obviously it will be different for everyone. The first thing I would say about Playadulce is that if you are a couple or a group of young adults and you are looking for either somewhere peaceful or youthful, you may not want to stay here during the summer school holidays. The hotel is full of families and I can imagine it might be a bit annoying for those lucky people without kids! And do check when the Spanish holidays are because they start earlier than in the UK. So, about the hotel. We are a family of four, with kids aged 7 and 9 so we booked a family room. These are wild west themed which is a bit of fun for the kids. On first glance the room is a bit cramped but you soon realise that actually there's enough space. The two beds are doubles and there is a bunk bed. There are two bathrooms each with toilets, one with a bath, one with a shower. There is a plug socket in at least one of them. There is a big cupboard near the door and a walk in wardrobe space near the second bathroom. There are plenty of mirrors. The balcony is double width and has a table and chairs and a drying rack for swimwear. The room has an empty fridge which is very useful. It doesn't come with a kettle or any tea and coffee facilities but we asked at reception and they gave us a kettle in return for a deposit and we bought a couple of cheap mugs from the souvenir shop round the corner, and brought our own tea bags and coffee with us. There is a safe in the cupboard for which you need to pay a few Euros a day - understandably as it would be super easy to lose the key. There are lots of coat hangers. The room has air con and a ceiling fan. It's a bit noisy but worth it. There are three plug sockets I think so it's worth bringing an extension if you have a lot of devices to charge. The beds just have sheets and so if you tend to get cold at night when the air con is on bring a blanket or pj's. The family rooms are located on floors 3-10 I think. The ones on the 3rd and 4th floors don't have the best views but at least they are quiet. We were on the third floor which is the same level as the restaurant. Rooms 308-316 may suffer from the restaurant smells. Also the balconies on this floor aren't very private if you like to spend time out there doing private things 😉. We liked the 3rd floor though, as it's a short walk to the restaurant and pool and no need to wait for the lift. If you want more balcony privacy, request a room on the 5th floor upwards. 4th floor rooms are the same level as the main lobby and bar and there's a pub and toilet close by. My sister visited for a night and stayed in a standard room. She said it was fine - clean, air con and fan, two double beds, one bathroom, big balcony. No tea and coffee facilities. The premium sea view rooms have this. In terms of facilities the hotel is great. There is a small indoor games room with stuff like pool and table football. These cost a Euro to use. There is an indoor pub which has a tv showing sports and is cooler and quieter than the lobby bar. There's a lobby bar which serves cakes and snacks and serves as the main bar for entertainment in the evening. There is a small gym with running machines, cross trainer, bike and some weights. There is a tennis court for which you can borrow racquets and balls. The mini golf has nine holes and is free. There is a table tennis table next to the swimming pool. Also a couple of petanque pitches. A very small playground. A hair salon. There is also a small shooting range where you can try archery and shoot a pellet gun. These activities are all free! The main swimming pool isn't huge but it's a decent size. It has a waterfall and water jets. The animation team does pool activities through the day that anyone can join. Behind it there's a jacuzzi and a shallow kids pool with three small water slides. Then there is another pool with two bigger water slides. In August the sunbeds get pretty busy even though there are a lot of them. There is a 10am rush to get a sunbed and then at around 2pm when people go to lunch there are usually some available again. There is a snack bar next to the pool serving reasonably priced food, drinks and ice creams. These are good portion sizes and good value. I think for all inclusive there are sandwiches and ice cream and you can have free tapas with some drinks. You're not allowed to have large floaties in the pools, but if you have young kids you can have small rings, armbands etc. Speaking of food, let's dive into what's on offer. The main buffet restaurant hosts breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is lovely with views out to sea. On the third morning of our stay we spotted some dolphins swimming past, although sadly we didn't see them again. We booked via TUI on a bed and breakfast basis. Then when we arrived, we decided to upgrade to half board. For €48 Euros per day for our family of 4 you can choose either lunch or dinner which is handy. Drinks aren't included in this price though, even water, although a large bottle was only about 1.6 Euros. You could also upgrade to all inclusive at any time. I think the cost of all inclusive was about €120 Euros per day, so the value you'd get really depends on whether you'll be able to make the most of the food and drinks. I would email the hotel in advance and ask about the options to compare prices with the tour operator packages. Ignore what people are saying in the reviews about meals being repetitive (I mean who at home eats a different breakfast every day!) Breakfast is very good. They have 5 different cereals including coco pops, cornflakes and museli. Milk options are regular, lactose free, soy. There are dairy and soy yoghurts. There are lots of different breads on offer, and they are delicious and fresh, and jam and honey spreads. You can have continental items like cheese, ham, tomatoes etc. There are pastries and cakes and of course fresh fruit. If you want hot food, there is fried potatoes, bacon, Spanish sausage, churros, fried tomatoes, beans and then there's a grill station that makes omelette to order, fried eggs and pancakes. Tea, coffee, orange juice, pineapple juice, water and Prosecco are included. The small pieces of chocolate cake are amazing as are the choc covered donuts. Lunch and dinner are varied. There are a few different meat and fish dishes. Always a few veg dishes and potatoes. One night there was Mexican, another night Italian, another night roast chicken, another night kebabs, plus Spanish dishes. Fries can be found at the grill section at the back in the conservatory where there are also usually some other meat and fish options. A good salad bar. Lovely bread. There is also plain pasta and rice and some simple tomato pasta sauce every day. Also some nice seafood options. There are a range of interesting desserts, cereal again, pots of ice cream, and crepes are made fresh at the breakfast grill area with a few toppings. Also a mix of fruit. Other reviews have said that the hotel is very Spanish and this is true. It's clearly a favourite spot for Spanish tourists but English is spoken at varying levels by staff. The wait staff in the restaurant and bar staff know enough to serve you, the reception staff are very good, the animation staff are a bit hit and miss. We found that the kids club mostly had Spanish kids and the young people in charge - despite being absolutely lovely - had only a little English, so our kids weren't keen to take part. The entertainment is all in Spanish but in most cases this doesn't matter and in our opinion it adds to the holiday experience. I will add to this that the animation team make a massive effort and have loads of energy, whether it's for the kids club, general daytime activities, or evening entertainment. It really adds to the fun atmosphere and gives guests a chance to join together in activities. The evening entertainment was the kids disco followed by a different show every night. We were there for two weeks so assume that there is a 14 day cycle. We saw everything from a birds of prey show with owls and eagles, to a Lion King show, to a dance party, live bands, a magician, karaoke. On our last night the team put on a show with at least 10 different dance routines and we can't understand when they had the time to learn it all! The mini disco is super fun and the songs are all with actions so it doesn't matter that the words are in Spanish and other languages. My son learned all the words to all the songs anyway even though he had no idea what he was singing! The only slight negative is that the kids disco starts at 9.30pm and the entertainment at 10.15pm which is pretty late. But this is normal in Spain. The other thing that would be good is a different disco slot for the older kids and teens as they don't really have anything just for them in the evenings. The location of the hotel is pretty good. As shown in the photos it's right across from the beach - there's a gate opening onto the promenade which is secure with keycards. If you want a day at the beach, all the sunbeds cost 5 Euros including the parasol. If you turn right from the hotel and walk a minute or so, there are sunbeds that have super comfy mattresses included in the 5 Euros and a waiter comes out of the beach bar to take drinks orders. We never ate in the beach bar but I saw other people's food and it looked good. The beach on our first day was great - the sea was calm and very clear as was the sand (fine stones really). The only thing is that the shallow part is about a metre and then it gets deep quite soon so you need to keep and eye on young children. After a couple of days there was a storm of sorts and then the sea became much rougher and full of either seaweed or parts of palm trees - not sure which. I hope this was a one-off and not the norm. Left out of the hotel takes you towards Aguadulce harbour. 1-2c mins walk there is a commercial centre that is choc full of bars and restaurants and also has a large souvenir shop. Behind this there is are a couple of plazas with Italian and pizza restaurants. Walking to the harbour takes about 15-25 minutes (depending on the age of your children). The harbour has some good restaurants and is a hub of nightlife after 10pm with some fun looking bars. It also has a Dominos Pizza. If you go out of the main hotel entrance and up the hill you'll get to the main shops in about 10 mins. There are a few supermarkets including a Lidl and a few other shops and restaurants. It's not somewhere to visit other than to get a few essentials or to catch the bus. The bus stop outside the hotel will take you either to Aguadulce Harbour if you're feeling lazy or to Roquetas de Mar, the next resort along. Buses come approx every half hour - you can use google maps to get the times and routes. Just click on the bus stop on the map. If you walk up the hill to the main road, you can catch the bus to Almeria. The bus journeys cost about 1.3 Euros. Most only take cash. We went to Roquetas de Mar once to see the town and go to the beach and another time to visit the shopping mall. The town is bigger than Aguadulce, but the beach that we saw isn't very well set up for tourists (it might be better further along). There were no beach bars or snack stalls like in Aguadulce, and nowhere to rent sunbeds. The people on the beach brought their own kit including parasols. There are a few tapas bars near the harbour but nothing much near the sea apart from that. The shopping mall is small but has all the chain shops like H&M, Mango, Primark, Flying Tiger etc and chain restaurants - McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, as well as a couple of independents and ice cream stalls. It's something to do for a change of pace. Almeria was ok but because it's so hot it wasn't the most enjoyable day out. Also, everything is shut between 1pm and 4pm so it means going in the morning or evening. We didn't end up doing any proper excursions. We might have done the Mini Hollywood park if it wasn't August, and we didn't think we'd bake to death in the desert sun. Another guest went and told us there isn't much shade. The aquapark in Roquetas looks good but our kids aren't confident enough swimmers yet for that. Overall we had an excellent holiday. We tend not to visit the same places more than once as there's so much out there to explore but would definitely recommend the Playadulce for families looking to stay in the area.

The hotel was situated right opposite a lovely beach and we had quick access via a gate using our key card. The beach was shingle not sand but was still lovely and the kids enjoyed using their snorkels to see fish and going on the pedal boats with a slide. The hotel was kept clean and the staff were all friendly and although not all spoke English well they could understand our requests with the help of some pointing sometimes if needed. I am a vegetarian but always found something to eat at breakfast and dinner. We didn’t go inside for lunch as the kids loved the pool too much to come in! After a few days we worked out what times the pool bar did food but this was just snack type food which suited us as we didn’t want another big meal before dinner. Ernesto in the pool bar stood out as being particularly friendly and helpful. There is a supplement needed for some drinks you order but they will let you know this when you order. The pools were great and the slides were brilliant and the lifeguards did a good job making sure everyone was safe when in the pool. There was plenty of activities happening in the pool too. Both our kids tried the kids/teens clubs but found it difficult as although the adults tried to speak some English most of the children spoke Spanish, understandably as they were Spanish! The evening entertainment was varied but not something we are really interested in so we did take some walks out but there is not much to see or do along the front although it was lovely to see and hear the waves. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend this hotel to others.

The first impression of the hotel can be a little confusing, with its homage to the spaghetti westerns that were filmed in the area on the facade, but inside it is very different, a traditional Spanish hotel that is clean, cool and spacious. The decor might be described as dated, but not tired, and it is very well kept by the cleaning staff. Plenty of beds by the pool - we visited in early June - and the buffet breakfast was just superb, something for every taste. Children seemed well catered for and the evening entertainment was varied and - well entertaining. The little resort is very Spanish which we loved, strolling along the esplanade in the evening was lovely and the tapas bars are great for a drink and a bite or two. Happy to go back again for sure.

We have just returned from our weekend break at hotel Playadulce and what an amazing time we had. We stayed in a standard room as a family of 5 (ages 11, 6 and 4 months) there was plenty of room in the bedroom and the bathroom was spacious too, the rooms were very clean and the beds super comfy although an extra pillow would be nice ☺️ (that's not a complaint just a personal preference). The pools were fantastic, super clean and well maintained, the children loved the water slides. Animation team were fab, my daughter joined in many things such as archery, boules, shooting, mini golf, rings, aerobics in the pool, the delfi club too... She had a really fun time, all the staff were great but Noelia stood out as she was so lovely. Food was nice and plentiful, the omelettes were amazing, eggs cooked how you like, meat and fish freshly cooked, lots of salad and bread, cold meats, really nice baked potatoes too, the cheese pasties were delicious and the crepes were to die for. The merienda was always lovely too with fresh melon and pineapple available on the days we stayed. The tinto de verano was nice and refreshing. Night time entertainment was fab, we saw a live band who were great and a magic show with the one and only Alex Navarro showman. The children enjoyed the mini disco too and the cinema night on Friday. All of the staff were lovely, reception were really helpful and the new girl who was training on reception was super polite and just lovely... She will be an asset to your team. We are Spanish speakers as we live in the Alicante region but lots of staff spoke English too. As an independent travel agent I don't often return to hotels as I have so many to chose from but I will most definitely return to this hotel as everything was just perfect. A huge well done and massive thank you to the whole team who made our weekend thoroughly enjoyable... My children both said they enjoyed it more than portaventura where we stayed two weeks ago. Thank you Gemma Riley

Just arrived home after our third time holidaying at this hotel - 9 nights bed & breakfast. We stayed in a superior double room with balcony and sea view - absolutely perfect. There is loads of choice at breakfast and staff work extremely hard to replenish the buffet and clean tables. The hotel is spotless and rooms are cleaned every day. Eating out can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. We used the tapas bars mainly where you buy a drink then choose a plate of food - in one bar a cheese n ham toastie was a tapas choice so very substantial. The bars and restaurants are dotted all along the seafront and there are a few in the harbour which is about 20min walk from the hotel. I recommend trying the "chiringuitos" which are the little bars on the beach. The resort is very Spanish and we like that as why bother going to another country if you want everything English??!!! We are already planning our fourth visit. Thanks again Playadulce!

Overall we had a lovely family holiday, arrived late and they had plated up everyone a cold salad in the restaurant with a bottle of water, a very nice gesture! At first there wasn’t much on throughout the day for us to do, but on 1/6/22 everything changed. Kids club and activities started (all in Spanish so my son struggled), the restaurant had a cooking station making fried eggs, omelettes & pancakes at breakfast. Then 3-4 choices of meat or fish cooked fresh, also crepes and French fries at lunch & dinner. Food was nice and always something to eat (I am a fussy eater), but the food was a little repetitive. As others have said it is a very Spanish area and not many people/staff speak English. I believe her name was Rose at reception and she was a lovely lady who helped out with anything we needed from getting a taxi, pool towels and she even got my son into the local aquarium for free. The beach is pebbly and not sand, there are toilets, play parks and bars dotted along the way. You can get a bus at the roundabout if you walk straight up and turn right to the bus stop, we went on the bus to the local market (only on Thursdays)/grand plaza (has McDonald’s/Burger king) my son is a very fussy eater. Other shops include Toys r us, JD Sports and H&M. I do not speak Spanish so used google translate to help me! The hotel is dated but everything worked as it should and it is kept very, very clean. Day and night there were people cleaning all areas of the hotel. Our room was cleaned daily, bed linen changed once during our weeks stay, but bedding made every morning. I would visit again as we did enjoy our stay, but it would be better if I knew some Spanish words!

Dear guest, Thank you for your kind review. We really appreciate that you have taken the time to write one. It is always a pleasure to receive a positive feedback! Concerning your comments about the variety of food, we would like to inform you, that our menus have a 11-days cycle, in which the salads and fittings could be repeated but not the main plates. Also we include the “Show-Cooking”, where you can find different kind of fish, meat, vegetables, Crêpes, pasta, and the typical Spanish “paella”. Every day we are working to continue with our quality and not only obtaining and investing in the product, rather in the permanent formation of the staff. We would be delighted to welcome you back to our establishment and please be assured that we remain entirely at your disposal at all times. Attentively yours, Francisco Meroño General Manager
