This was by far the BEST vacation I have ever had. The hotel is family run, personable and close to trails through the Dolomites. They are expanding, so I hope they don't lose the intimate home like feeling. The views are fantastic. But be careful! Even with hiking 4-12 miles a day I gained eight pounds. The food was fantastic!!!

Let me start with the positives: this place is clean, neat, tidy, and in a lovely and quiet location. The room was immaculately clean. Breakfast was delicious. My stay there was terrible however due to the extremely unkind (verging on the extremely mean) treatment by one of the family members running this place. This is a family run business, where it seems there is an elderly lady (with whom I had no interactions but she seemed super nice), a middle aged woman (horribly mean character: see below), and a younger gentleman (also super nice). I had been driving for seven hours to get there, right before I reached the nearby main city, Bolzano, a severe thunderstorm struck and the GPS sent me around in loops. Finally, after communicating in my bad Italian and not very good English with some locals in Bolzano, I was able to ask for directions, and then I made the very risky drive up to Soprabolzano taking the hairpin turns in the severe storm. Instead of arriving at 7pm as I had planned, I arrived a few minutes after 9pm --long before the hotel's recommended late arrival limit. Yet, instead of welcoming me with a smile, the middle aged lady received me with a huge frown, literally slapped my room key on the desk, and sent me to my room like a disobedient child saying that she will finish the check in the next day before breakfast. She never shared with me any information about the hotel's amenities, the internet password...etc. I tried explained to her how the storm had delayed me, and all I got from her was a grunt and a nod. I then asked her if she can recommend a place to eat explaining that I had been on the road for 6 hours, and she specifically said that there was nowhere to eat in the area, so I went to bed without eating. Low and behold, the next day I discovered a wide array of cafes, bars, and hotels with restaurants in the area. Not only that, only a few steps away, there was the cable car that would have taken me down to Bolzano for food! What a mean-spirited creature! I went up to my room then, and although it was immaculately clean, as soon as I moved the bedcover, a silverfish insect ran on the bed and I freaked out. These are common household insects that have nothing to do with cleanliness, but with my jet lag and with the lady's meanness with me, I had a fretful night with nightmares of mean aunts and giant ants! Her attitude remained like this throughout the rest of my stay. She asked me one morning to let her know if I wanted to have dinner, which is served at 7pm. I said I cannot guarantee it as I do not know how the roads will be. I arrived that evening a bit before 8pm, and although there were people seated at their dinner tables, I was not expecting to eat there because I was not there for the (stupid) 7pm deadline (who eats dinner at 7pm in Italy??), but the younger gentleman received me with a nice smile, and asked me how my day was (which in so unlike her), I said it was great and that now I want to find somewhere to eat, and he volunteered that "maybe they can cook something up in the kitchen", she was behind the bar and snapped something at him in German with a huge frown, and I could see the embarrassment on his face, and he said "maybe some leftovers", so in a sign of goodwill I said that's fine, and yes, she did actually serve me "leftovers" the worst cut of some beef, with the crunchy fat and charged me the full price of a dinner for it (29 Euros). What a horrid creature she is! I would never recommend her venue to anyone. Why would someone be in the "hospitality business" if they have no clue how to be "hospitable" in the first place. By the way, I should mention what had happened on the night I arrived to the younger gentleman when I was checking out, and did relay to him what happened and he simps said "I understand". Frankly, I felt sorry for him having to work by her side day in and day out! Speaking to Italian friends, they told me that she probably acted this way thinking I was Italian (though I am Canadian and have absolutely nothing to do with Italy, but my first name might be confused for Spanish or Italian). My friends shared, and I actually observed, that this region identifies more with the Austrian culture than with the Italian, and that the hoteliers absolutely detest Italian tourists -- not that this should justify her attitude towards me, but it might be the reason behind it.

Dear Luna, thanks a lot for your review. We are very pleased that you describe our Hotel Regina as a clean, tidy, lovely and quiet place. We are sorry that you couldn’t enjoy your stay like you had planned. But we remember very well that you didn’t arrive at 9pm like you stated but instead at 11pm (maybe a misunderstanding because of the time shift?). At that time our kitchen as well as the restaurants in town were already closed. The dinner on the second day consisted of a 5 course menu serving veal roast (not beef, like you assumed). All the other guests enjoyed the dishes very much and we think that € 29 for a 5 course menu is an absolutely reasonable price. Unfortunately we couldn’t change your mind and make a better impression during our conversation right before your departure. We are very sorry that you didn’t enjoy your time at the Regina. Wishing you all the best, The Unterhofer family and team

Our room gave views over the Bolzano valley to the far off mountains. Absolutely lovely. The room had everything we needed in terms of comfort, space and layout. The included breakfasts and dinners were substantial and delicious. The staff, this is a family owned and run hotel, were helpful and friendly. There is lots to do in the area, and a funicular to take you down to Bolzano. I would stay there anytime. Love it!!

Very friendly family-run hotel is right next to the cable car and the railway station to the famous Pyramids. Comfortable, clean and spacious rooms with great views of the Dolomites. Family owners are very polite and ready to help. I had no difficulty in communicating with the owners in English. Excellent breakfast. Hotel will give you the Ritten card for 7 days, which will allow free travel on trains, cable cars and buses in the region - this is a great gift. With pleasure I will recommend this hotel to my friends and will be glad to return to Hotel Regina again. Many thanks to the family Unterhofer!

A small family run hotel with beautiful places to relax, incredible 5 course meals, buffet breakfasts, afternoon coffee and cake. I had a wonderful big room with balcony where flowers spilled over the railing and the views of many mountain ranges took my breath away. Wonderful bedding, heated towels. The staff, mostly family, is charming and very kind. Most of the guests were repeat clients and we will also be in that category. In 35 years of extensive travel to 165 countries the Hotel Regina is my all time favorite. You can take the Ritten Seilbahn to Oberbozen the Hotel is on a Mountain called Ritten. We did not have a car and arrived by Train. The Seilbahn (Cable Car) is a short walk from the Bolzano Train Station and when you arrive by Cable Car at the top turn right a 5 minute walk and you are at the Hotel Regina..
