Hotel suddenly decided to require a COVID-19 NAT result to allow check-in. Informed our travel agent with 4 hours notice of our check-in when we were already en route and had no possibility of getting a test done or the results available. Our green QR codes, safe travel area codes and China vaccination certificates made no difference, they refused us check-in with virtually no notice. Other hotels in the area had no such requirements.

My first stay at Songtsam and just surprised me at first sight. after trying several different sites and ending up with Linka, I just could say beyond my expectation. Linka is comparatively big and major one compared with other sites, and we happened to meet boss working there. Our room is big and located in first floor with tiny garden with view of the 松赞林寺。

Traveled during Chinese New Year 2021, original booking was at Lvgu lodge but due to a lot of cancellation (Chinese govn wanted people to stay put during Covid) and Songtsam travel re-arranged us to be at Songtsam Linka. We had a suite with a nice terrace facing the valley and the monastery from far. Suite was very large and very cozy, it felt like we are renting a friend's lodge. We did a few hikes and tours with the travel butler which was really good in terms of knowledge. The resort has a gift shop and also a specialty store for Yak wool products, which was very well designed and authentic! I also had a 90 min massage at the spa, the massage oil they blend was great and the therapist really knows her way around muscle groups!

This hotel at nearly 12K feet was just the place to have a respite on our 66 day trip. The rooms were very comfortable with a very comfortable sitting area with couches and a heater. Comfortable king bed and well designed furniture. The bathroom was just fine with a shower and.... We were in room 1703 with a unobstructed view of the monastery on the other side of the valley. We saw the horses and the monastery at various times of the day, including sunrise and sunset. The breakfast and dinner at the hotel was quite good and had local food preparations available.

The last 2 nights of our 8-night, 9-day Songtsam Yunnan tour were here. This is a spectacular resort hotel consisting of ~25+ beautiful stone buildings built onto a hillside and overlooking the back of a spectacular temple (like all Buddhist temples in China, this one was rebuilt after the destruction of the Great Cultural Revolution.) The location is on a very high plateau at nearly 12,000 feet. It is somewhat deceptive as there are no very high mountains in view, but you will feel it every time you climb a flight of stairs. We had been above 6,000 feet for a week on the tour, with the two prior nights at Songtsam Meili at 11,000 feet but you still feel the thin air. I'd advise against flying directly here from sea level, although they do have oxygen available in case of emergencies. The nearby Napa Hai (lake) is spectacular and the Old Town in the city is a wonderful place to spend many hours exploring shops and trying restaurants. The hotel had an evening outdoor Tibetan dance/music show that was fun to watch one evening. Like all the Songtsam hotels we visited on this tour, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious (much of it grown on a farm just outside the hotel compound walls.) Beautifully decorated hotel with lots of nice details from warm hospitality to a comfortable room with nice bed. I am quite surprised with the level of details that I experienced within my stay here, considering this is not the big hotel chain like the Starwood or the Marriott group. Probably that’s also one of the reason I am quite happy with the overall experience at this hotel. The staff are very well trained in ensuring us enjoying our stay here. The breakfast is pretty steady with lots of choices from both the western and Chinese selection. Definitely try their hot noodles, the best way to make your stomach happy before you kick start the day of hiking or sight seeing.

This is truly a retreat with first class service. We stayed here for 3 days and we were well taken care of. The hotel offered from pickup service from Shangrila bus station. The driver was prompt and courteous. The moment we arrived at the hotel, the staff welcomed us with ginger tea and cookies. Our family suite was huge with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The view of the monastery was breathtaking. I splurged on the spa and their service was exceptional as well. It’s the perfect place to detox and unplug from busy city life. Highly recommend this hotel!

Originally from Hong Kong, Studied in UK, travelled a bit - if you have similar background, you might find my comments useful. First time travelling to Yunan. I started from LiJiang so to get used to the altitudes, it is more helpful that way, as air here is thinner. I got picked up by Hotel, we communicated the place and time for pick up over We Chat, and so the whole experience was very smooth. Hotel cars are nice - they are Range Rovers or BMW. Hotel would further transport you and your luggage by gold carts - everything is just well taken care of. In fact it is one of the finest hotels in the area. The hotel is located in a protected area, so the air here is extra fresh. The density of rooms are very low, basically every room are nearly individual (semi-detached). All rooms are decorated as Tibet style, as the people here are under heavy influence of Tibet. This hotel is a retreat, therefore, it is a place for you to slow down, chill and relax. The room is very nicely decorated and spacious, and everyday there are fresh fruits and home-made cookies (they are delicious i bought few packs back home). All mini-bars are free of charge. The food from the restaurant is actually very nice so i would recommend if you stay for a lunch / dinner. Breakfast selection is not huge, but taste nice. Would definitely recommend to stay at this place, but you need to stay here for a few days in order to truly wind down and relax.…

Due to a mixed up in the booking, we nearly landed up not staying at Songtsam Linka and what a missed opportunity it would have been for us. The quality of the decor and finishing in the rooms and the restaurants which reflected an old world splendor and not to mention the fantastic view of the Songzalin monastery which was makes the place so tranquil and serene. A great joy for me was to sit at the balcony of my room sipping ginger tea freshly delivered by the hotel staff watching the sunset every evening. The level of service befits its M gallery branding. Cannot possibly recommend this hotel enough.
