upon our arrival which was very early in the morning the staff was super cordial letting us deposit our luggage and check in later so we could rush off to Pompei...at our return we decided to dine at the hotel which needless to say is absolutely gorgeous tho it needs a little TLC which we were glad to hear was undergoing including the construction of a Spa Area..being a Historic Vesuvian Villa the Historical society has to release special permits to allow restorations and those are not easy to obtain here in Italy unfortunately...but what we loved the most here was the staff...Everyone was extremely nice and friendly and took really good care of us both at dinner which was exquisite and at breakfast where a Waiter noticing how much we loved the caprese cake and sfogliatella riccia prepared a small plate for us to take to our room what a treat! after we checked out the reception called us a taxi since we had very heavy luggage and needed to go to the train station...our Taxi Driver Giulio was super friendly...definitely coming back here again

This was obviously once a beautiful place but is now in need of some TLC! We actually upgraded to a junior suite on the first floor which was very ornate! Staff were really friendly and helpful at reception. Waiters in the restaurant found it difficult to react to people’s needs due to language barriers but also there did appear to be some training needs!! Milk for coffees on one occasion was brought in a gravy boat!! However it did cause some amusement!! The menu needs to be updated to reflect modern times as most dishes included sea food. The local vicinity was extremely run down which obviously not the fault of the hotel but we did find it a little daunting when walking back at night. The train station is about 10 min. walk away.

Dear Ene4620, thank you for you feedback. We have already started rinovation of the Villa and we will continue on this way; we are are glad you enjoy our junior suite on the first floor with original fresco cealings of the XVIII cen. Regarding our restaurant " Le Nuvole" we offer typical deshes of the Neapolitan Tradition which are based on local product and in particul sea food, but we will follow your advices also regarding the service in order to improve our quality. We hope to meet you again in our Villa of the Golden Mile and in the meantime we send you Best Regards

What a beautiful building with lovely big impressive rooms, we chose one in the main house which shared a huge balcony with a neighbour (due to weather wasn’t used) and from the side looked over Vesuvius. The villa itself is old, and yes its not in a great area with lots to do immediately outside your door, but when else would you get to stay in such a historical building for the price these rooms are offered at. My only real negative was the shower, it was built into the wall and had a musty smell, hence meaning me missing my morning shower (don’t worry I had one later that day). There is a pool located in the lovely grounds which are full of Orange and Lemon trees (which are served at the hotel). We had a few drinks at the bar, prior to eating at the restaurant, a bit pricey at 5 euros for a 0.33 bottle of Peroni. The meal was lovely and in a great setting. There is secure parking amidst the orange and lemon trees. The staff were lovely (especially the girl in the restaurant). Breakfast was continental with cheeses, fruits, cereal, etc. To summarise Pro's Great staff Impressive rooms Historical building Fantastic grounds Free parking Con's Needs TLC (but that is represented in price) Area not full of restaurants Expensive drinks in bar Would I recommend? Yes for short stays.

The old Villa is stunning if a bit run down but that sort of added to the charm. The restaurant is very good, many excellent breakfast choices ..especially the boiled potatoes and beans & fresh tomatoes, wonderful local crusty bread, a pleasant change from sooo many cakes. but plenty of those too... freshly made coffee, An excellent lunch and dinner menu specialising in Slow Food there is a lovely atmosphere both inside and on the outside terrace. A wonderful surprise, which was important in Ercolano because the town itself is quite scruffy with nowhere to eat near the excavations other than greasy snack bars... I tried to find something near the port but found nothing inviting. Well…!!!! MY ACTUAL STAY????... It was a very interesting experience, quite crazy…. but very Italian…. I had loved the look of the rooms on the website…. lovely ornate ceilings etc etc etc…so I booked… three months ahead…. AND PAID FOR, a suite. Imagine my disappointment on arrival when they said there had been mistake and I was given an outside room in the “dependence”…..they apologised profusely and offered me a free dinner for the two nights. The room was very disappointing and I was furious so I refused, but they were so delightful I just had to go along with it….EH!!! That’s why we love Italy…They managed to find me one night in the main Villa in a lovely room, not quite what I had booked for, but again EH !! It was a great restaurant so I was placated…. in the end I was quite happy. Lovely staff, waiters etc and the pool is divine!!!!! . The least said about the “outside room “ the better what ever you can imagine…. it was worse.. see photos of “the suite” and “ dependence”. The restaurant however was a life saver because the rest of Ercolano is ghastly… this is an oasis in the wilderness or rather “ Incubo” that is Ercolano…. It did improve my Italian though.. don’t be put off: this place is A VERY SPECIAL ITALIAN GEM and you certainly could not find anything like anywhere else in the world.

The whole of the area where the hotel is located is very, very run down. Of course this is not the hotels fault. The hotel itself was obviously once upon a time a very grand residence indeed. We had a large suite type room, and on first glance looked very impressive, but actually there were lots of mouldy frescoes and huge cracks everywhere. Of course, these old buildings are very expensive to upkeep. The "view" outside our window was of a dumping ground for building materials, and the staff car park. The food in the restaurant was average, we ate much better every other evening whilst we were in Sorrento. The location is of course ideal for Herculaneum. Our biggest gripe was the fact the TV was blaring when we arrived for our evening meal. I have travelled all lover the world and only ever had a TV on in a pub or sports bar type place. When we asked for it to be switched off we were told we could only have the volume down, but for us personally the screen was an annoyance. Breakfast was average and as other reviewers have said too small for the number of guests. A mixed, and slightly disappointing stay.
