We first visited Awasi Patagonia in Feb17 after which I posted a detailed TripAdvisor review of the lodge its facilities and excursions. We had always hoped to return and recreate our memorable experiences and were not to be disappointed with our 6 night stay. Lodge The villas and main lodge at Awasi have remained very much the same, all with wonderful views of the three granite peaks which give the park its name. We were fortunate in our request for lodge No.2 where we had stayed previously. On returning to our villa after dinner we would find little gifts left for us, some we have used others are constant reminders of our stay. Restaurant Dining options are always tailored to your individual dietary requirements and paired with excellent Chilean wines. This is something we do not experience every day and something Awasi made one of the highlights of our trip. New since our last visit was the taster cocktail of the day at the start of dinner-what a brilliant idea. The enthusiasm of the multinational staff is infectious and enhances meal times greatly. The menu on our last night was designed to take into account our favourite items even to the extent of having multiple dishes per course. Excursions These are designed specifically around your interests and abilities. Perhaps our main reason for returning is the use of private guides and vehicles. We met our guide Nico (who will be forever remembered) on the afternoon of our arrival. After explaining our previous experiences he designed a 5 day programme tailored around our interests in photography, wildlife and hiking. Adjustments were made on a day to day basis depending on weather conditions and our desire to see and do as much as possible. Hiking varies according to your abilities, but everyday finished leaving us with a sense of achievement. It is difficult to explain quite how completely Nico managed to fulfil are expectations. Most of the days we had decided to eat lunch away from lodge allowing us to maximise our time in the surrounding environs. Whether it was sandwiches, cold spread or cooked Nico got it right. There were many highlights during our days there in particular the magnificent puma sightings and the awe inspiring scenery of the Baguales. Marina the assistant manager was on hand daily to ensure all the elements of Awasi came together to make everything perfect. On leaving we were given multiple memorabilia of our stay. For us the combination of villas, dining experience and excursions is impossible to beat. There are so many staff who contribute to your overall daily pleasure that it would be impossible to mention them all. Suffice to say they all work to contribute to your enjoyment ceaselessly. On leaving Patagonia the Coronavirus pandemic was taking its toll around the world. We hope all the staff and their families stay safe. Hopefully Awasi Patagonia will re-open for a new season as usual.

We spent 4 days at the Awasi Patagonia. Our stay at this hotel was one on the most memorable of all the places we have visited. Our villa was comfortable and very well designed. The food and wine were top notch. But the best part of the stay at Awasi was the view from the villa and the daily trips to different parts of the Torres de Pine national park. A unique experience to remember for ever...

Dear FunTrips, We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your time with us! We agree, the views are one of the best parts of Patagonia and it is wonderful to know you enjoyed taking them in from excursions to your villa. Surely you were able to get some great shorts to save the memory – we’d love to see them! If you ever come back to South America, we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to one of our other locations – Awasi Atacama or Patagonia. Kind regards, The Awasi Team

From the design, the incredible staff, fantastic excursions and the unexpectedly delicious food and wine, The Awasi exceeded all of our expectations. The small number of villas on the property and the opportunity of having our own private guide each day allowed us to truly have a custom experience. Each villa has an extraordinary view with identical floor plans. Though some are farther to the main Iodge. We were there with four other couples and everyone was thrilled with their accommodations. Do not miss The Awasi when in Patagonia

My husband and I were not interested in hiking, we just wanted to relax from our hectic days in New York city, enjoy good food and wine and see some pretty vistas. It sounded like a perfect spot to do just that based on both online advertising and our phone call with the hotel’s representative. All food and wine is supposedly included, and there is even a private hot tub at each villa to relax and enjoy. We went on with Awasi as reviews were great and promises made by the representative incredible. And it is really sad that the latter were not fulfilled. The good - our guide and driver and all of the staff were amazing, they deserve 5* and they did make a difference. Our drives were scenic and fun filled with animals sightings including pumas, lunch and dinner service were superb, everyone was unbelievably polite and nice and I only wish that the place was not as poorly managed. The bad - management seems to do everything in their power to reduce cost and make even more money at the customer's expense: 1. Awasi is not an all-inclusive. In the first 10 minutes at the resort, I got a wine list with bottles ranging from $100 to $200. All Chilean wines were supposed to be included, but this is not the case as they only include Chilean wines that cost up to $20 retail. Although I don’t mind paying $200 for a good bottle of wine, I felt like I had already paid close to $3,000 a night for all Chilean wines that were supposed to be included. Additionally, these were bottles retailing for $50-80 (not expensive Chilean wines), so it felt quite cheap. Although the sommelier was amazing with his pairings and deserves a gold star, I did not like any of the red wines unfortunately. 2. As for the food, the chef is excellent despite a very limited menu. The food options were also on a cheaper side, with no crab or Chilean sea bass available on any of the nights, inferior steak cuts and simple fish like trout and swordfish. 3. The villa was gorgeous but hot as hell with no air conditioning or even a ceiling fan (yet another cost cutting). It was extremely hard to sleep even though we were given a fan after we had voiced a concern. The fan was extremely old and loud and looked like a fire hazard. To add on to our restless nights, the smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night due to low battery... 4. Relaxing in a hot tub was barely an option as well as we could only use it on one of the days (due to high winds on one of the days and a nonsensical excuse on the arrival day which I won’t even repeat). 5. And adding on small things that no luxury hotel brand would do: not enough shower gel, used Awasi water bottle (eww) that you inherit from someone else, cheap wine in your mini bar that I do not recommend drinking. And the ugly goes to management. I understand that life is not perfect, things happen (like the smoke alarm incident), but the management never offered to do anything to make our stay better. Awasi's management is good at making countless excuses and promises that the issues will get fixed sometime in the future, but how will I benefit from it?! In the end, I was contacted by another representative who asked to speak on the phone. I agreed, but after making senseless excuses, she tried to sell other Awasi properties to me. No, thank you, Awasi, I’ll stick to the brands I know from now on. (On this note, I highly recommend Belmond Iguassu - that was a genuine luxury 5* experience at a fraction of Awasi's price).

Dear Elena, We regret that you were not able to enjoy our hotel. In regards to your feedback,we do believe it is necessary to explain some points here for the TripAdvisor community. This is in no way an attempt to change your mind but rather offer our clarifications. Also, regarding our phone call that was was not at all meant to sell you another Awasi, but rather a token of appreciation for your candid feedback as we do take each guest’s experience into consideration. As a proud Relais & Chateaux member, we are committed to promoting the local economy which is why we offer local products. In regards to our wines, each one hand selected by our sommelier and highly regarded by regional and international critics. We offer a wine pairing for each course to allow our guests to experience a wide range of varietals they might not otherwise be introduced to; something that tends to be one of the most highly revered parts of the dining experience. Some of our guests arrive with extensive research and request specific bottles which is why we have the premium list available upon request. These options are not marked up but rather set at the prices that we buy them at in the remote area our hotel is located in. As far as the restaurant, we work with local producers to create a menu that reflects seasonal products and respects the region’s culinary heritage. We strive to highlight local flavors and ingredients, combining quality presentation with flavor. Our fire burning hot tubs can truly be a highlight of the Awasi experience but we must care for and preserve our local environment meaning that on extremely windy days they are not lit to avoid any possible wildfire risks. In regards to your villa’s temperature, due to the typical Patagonian climate (cooler temperatures), most of the time the villas being too warm is not an issue, which is why we do not have air conditioning. In the past year we’ve experienced unprecedented highs and will be reassessing this in the future. Lastly, in terms of the water bottles these are brand new for everyone and in fact each one is examined by staff prior to giving them to our guests. We do apologize if your bottle seemed scratched and we will be reviewing this with our team. We would have loved the chance to explain these topics or help to find you a solution better suited to your preferences had these matters been brought up to us during your stay. Sincerely The Awasi Team
