#4 of 11 hotels in Torres del Paine National Park
2021 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
Our lodge is located right in the heart of the extraordinary Torres del Paine National Park in southern Patagonia. The diverse and untouched landscapes of this area led UNESCO to declare it a biosphere reserve. Our Patagonia hotel lodge opened in 1993 on the banks of the Salto Chico waterfall. It affords an excellent view of the unique Paine Massif and two of the three impressive torres, or towers, which give the park its name. The lodge has 49 rooms and a variety of inviting spaces. Situated on a 3-hectare (7.4-Acre) site, the design borrows certain organic forms from the landscape itself, adapting to it with simple elegance. It was designed to create a dialogue with its environment, putting human beings in touch with the sublimity of their surroundings. For travellers, the lodge provides the welcome surprise of comfort in a remote area. Nonetheless, you are not isolated from nature, but rather placed "within" it.

Exceeded all expectations. The staff and the location is great. The attention to detail is amazing. It looks expensive when booking but is worth every penny for this once in a lifetime experience. The food and the attention of the staff is great. The guides first help to pick the best tours and the tours themselves are extremely well organized. Even the provided food for the daytrips is great. I would recommend everybody to book this hotel when visiting Torres del Paine

Family trip, 4 nights - 3 full days for trips. Flew from Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas and then took the hotel van. A 4 hour trip with one stop half way. Since the reception all worked perfectly, quick check in and basic orientation for what was going to be the next days. The lake-oriented rooms are absolutely amazing. Hard to imagine the sightseeing .... with sunlight till 10pm ... full of different colors along the day. Totally recommended it. Food at very good variety and quality. Breakfast, lunch and dinner served at table. Sort of short menu to choose (you can take more than one if can’t choose 😜). Good selection of grapes for white and red wine, and an open bar for before and after drinks. People very attentive, young, agile. The hotel has a SPA with indoor swimming pool and indoor and outdoor jacuzzis. Covid 19 made reservations more difficult due to maximum capacity restrictions (make reservations in the morning to relax at the end of each day). But what you can’t skip is the dive into the very cold river. Take your chance!!! Perfect for family memories 👍 and renew your body for a cold-hot water session. And of course, for what we came... trekking and beautiful sightseeing everywhere you look at. It’s imposible to shoot bad pictures, really! I will do my reviews separately for each “excursion” but just mention what we did: 1st day: two half days... aonikenk walk and horseback riding (kids loved it) 2nd day: Grey lake and glaciar (absolutely above my expectation and very high in ranking taking all family scores) 3rd day: Torres del Paine (very nice, but also very very difficult trekking, long day). At the bottom of the list although with high score anyway. All in all, incredible days, with good weather, excellent hospitality, a part of the world that surprises with its colors, animals, lakes and mountains. Totally recommended. And despite all the problems that Covid brought to all of us, fair to say that the Parque Torres del Paine is much easy to appreciate with few people waking around. It was almost ours for full three days!!!

Wonderful experience for my family. We were 7 of different ages, from 10 to70 years old and Explora gave us differents excursions for all of us. The landscapes, the people, the food and the location make Explora Patagonia an unforgettable destination

I had reserved a room at this high end place back in December 2019 for a trip in Sept 2020. The company required 30% deposit which I had paid with a credit card. I decided to cancel this reservation back in March 2020 when things became clear that Covid 19 is here to stay. I cancelled early on to avoid any cancellation fee. I wrote an email and called to request cancellation and refund. I had since sent several emails to different staff most recently last Thursday- July 16,2020 requesting and reminding them of my refund. They appreciate my patience but I need them to send me a check which I desperately need yesterday. Their cancellation policy states, refund will be process within 30-45 days but it's way beyond that. Still waiting for that money they took from me. I had long since paid my credit card bill. AM

So disappointed at the struggle it has been to get a refund from Explora for a trip I was due to take in April but which was cancelled due to Covid. As you will see from previous reviews, I love this chain and had already stayed at Explora Patagonia over Christmas a few years ago and at Explore Atacama. I had booked at the start of the year to go on their photographic safari, staying at Explora Patagonia and Explore Rapa Nui. Having paid initial deposit, I paid balance in early March, confirming at the time it was refundable if not able to go due to COVID. Sadly, COVID arrived big time and Explore and Chile rightly locked down. My refund finally arrived today after weeks and weeks of chasing. In addition, they had the audacity to deduct $400 (2 x $200) cancellation administration charge, EVEN though their hotels were closed and they took months of chasing to refund. I had already received my refunds weeks ago from BA, LAN Chile and even the Holiday Inn booked on a non-cancellable rate at Santiago airport. It is such a shame as Explora hold themselves out as high-end. I had five other trips planned this year all to similar standard hotels and ALL refunded promptly. Interestingly, if you look back at the other poor reviews, it seems there were similar issues in 2013 when there was a fire in Patagonia and a number of customers took a long time to get their money back. To my mind it is stupidity as I have promoted this chain to many friends, would go again on a re-booked photo safari and had planned to take a large group on the overland Explora trip next year. However, this has damaged their brand big time with me and I am not sure if I will now ever re-visit. The concept is wonderful, the hotel is beautiful BUT BE VERY CAREFUL BOOKING WHILE COVID REMAINS AS IT IS A SERIOUS STRUGGLE TO GET REFUNDED IF THEY CLOSE THE HOTEL. They use every excuse not to repay. Tripadviser should run an article highlighting the hotel chains and airlines that are not doing the right things by their customers and those that are going above and beyond. Sad!

Response from Explora Team, Otro at Explora Patagonia - All Inclusive
Responded Jul 20, 2020
Dear traveler, First of all, we feel deeply disappointed for the fact that the world pandemic prevented you from staying in our lodge. Unfortunately, we are experiencing longer than usual waiting times to address reimbursement requests since all the companies that take part in the payment chain have also been impacted by the large flow of requests due to the COVID-19 situation. While we sent the refund request as soon as we could, the time it takes for the money to reach the hands of who made the payment depends on third-party agents. It should be noted that when you reported that it was impossible for you to come to explora, the pandemic was just beginning in Chile and our hotel in Torres del Paine was closed until March 31 only, which was established by Chilean authorities as the limit date for the country’s border closure. With the information we had then, the hotel was expected to be operative at the time of your original booking. However, we were aware and understood the uncertainties experienced at the world level and offered you to change your booking, free of costs and with full flexibility depending on the evolution of the pandemic. However, since you declined the offer, we were forced to charge the USD $200 cancellation fee, clearly established in our policies. We truly regret any delays or inconveniences that you might have experienced during this process. Our efforts have been focused on providing our travelers with improved facilities so as to deal with these challenging times together. Sincerely, explora.
