Half the resort was not open due to hurricane damage however the half that was open was fantastic. The staff were amazing and made even rainy days feel great. We'd love to recognize our servers: Adrian, Jose Alain, and Pablo as well as our bartender Javier.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS unless you're used to a pampered lifestyle 😂. For us everyday people I'll give you an honest review. I travelled end of feb with my 2 children age 15 and 18. Arrived early evening to airport so had sunset drive to resort. Drive from airport was long but the view was worth every minute of it. From the towns we passed to the causeway absolutely stunning. When we arrived check in was fast and they gave you an amazing non alcoholic drink for everyone to make you feel welcome. Resort is huge!!. Yes they are renovating half the resort so when I say huge that's the open part I'm talking about,I can just imagine the size afterwards!! Yes I've been to Cuba many times before 6 to count always been to Varadero thought this time I would try someplace new, glad I did this is my new home away from home can't wait to go back. This is an older resort yup there's "rust". So quick science lesson. Sea salt, wind and buildings = weathering 😂 This stuff happens in that type of climate. We were in building 26. Perfect location. Right by the beach and pool. Yes there is a walk to the main buildings from here to buffet etc from this location. (told you resort was large😁) there are several golf carts available on resort to get around including getting to the buffet you just have to call the front desk if you require one or they'll pick you up in passing on the many paths no problem if not needed the walk is also amazing. There are so many things to look at. The flower gardens and wildlife are beautiful. Let's get to entertainment. I love all of you!!!. Guillermo. Yordanis, Pablo and the girls did an amazing job to keep everyone busy allll day. From the beach in the morning to pool activities in the afternoon and then the stunning night shows. There were beach parties, pool parties, races, games, dances, foam party and the list goes on. Yes there are many things for younger kids as well. I had older children didn't pay much attention I'm sorry. Food is actually good for Cuba. I've had worse. People need to think outside the box. There is so much variety you will not starve lol. Must go to the market. They will drive you from resort in golf carts. So much to see and do. Once a week they have a carnival night. 25 gets you free drinks and everything. Worth the trip and money. If that doesn't persuade you then I've saved the best for last. I've been to Australia, Jamaica, Trinidad&Tobago, Dominican Republic so far and the beaches here were the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life. The colour of the water and sand were a first for me and was pure paradise. Staff is attentive but remember you get treated how you treat them. All inclusive does not give you the right to treat people like crap. We are all humans at the end of the day. So hopefully this 100% truthful review helped you. I had nothing to gain nothing to lose just a simple person like you hoping you see past the negative reviews and see what this resort really has to offer. Good people, good food, amazing entertainment and the most beautiful beaches and water I've ever seen in my life. Stay safe stay healthy and enjoy life!!

We travel here with friends and family, we've been to melia las dunas before so we figured that we were getting a good deal going to Starfish and we new the beaches were already nice in Santa maria, but everything they say on there website is full of lies.....! the food is disgusting by far the worst ever, the buffet was discousting I'm not picky but man did I ever eat allot of bread that week the only thing good was bread that's bad we've seen waiter and waitress drop spoons pick them up and put back on serving plates, we ask for coke the one day since they had none all week and go one with half of rum and I wanted just coke to wash down my food the waitress grab it and served it to someone else after I took a drink, the rooms were not bad except for blood stain on shower curtains and mold all over the walls, the only thing good all week and good things for good drinks and bartenders and cant forget good entertainment from Hector good thing that guy made us laugh and put a smile on our face. But I don't recommend this resort to anyone spend a lil more $$$ and u get more, I've been to about 8 places never I had to write a review but this place is all fake.

Firstly, this is Cuba, a poor country, so you need to adjust your expectations accordingly. Considering 8 hours of flying to get there from YYC, and it being all-inclusive, the package was really good value. Then the airport is 75 minutes or so by comfortable Chinese bus, across some mainland and the 48km causeway. But the drive is worth it. The Starfish is a huge resort: 22 3-storey "bungalows" of 70-80 rooms, but only about half were in use when we were there. They are well spaced with well-kept gardens. The resort is in 2 halves, most of the western half is in use, including the pool and its associated entertainment. Only 2 bungalows in the eastern half were in use, and most if not all of the others were under refurbishment. However, the pool there was kept clean and a few people used it for its relative tranquility compared to the busy, noisy western one. Check-in was swift and efficient, even when we arrived after midnight after our flight was delayed. The rooms are big. With our king-sized bed there was still plenty of space -- there would be plenty of space for 2 queens too. The balcony was a decent size, with a table and 2 chairs. Plenty of storage space, and a wee safe. We didn't need the fan, but I did check that it worked! There was not always hot or even warm water, and we had none at all for about half a day. Our top-floor cleaners were excellent, providing 3 litres of drinking water every day. Each day the room was cleaned, we usually got fresh towels, and the sheets were changed when we asked. Also the floor was mopped every day so we always returned from the beach to a pristine floor. We were in building 30 (yes, I know there are only 22 total) which is the closest to the lobby and restaurant and furthest from the pool -- but still less than 200m. It is also closest to the theatre, where several shows were held, 2 in the evening during our week from about 9-11 p.m. Being close to the lobby meant we were disturbed most nights by early-morning revellers, somewhere between 2 and 4 a.m., shouting in Russian. The food was very good -- far better than the reviews had led me to expect, with some variety over the course of the week. We did go to the posh dining room, which wasn't nearly as good, and we would have been livid if it cost extra -- it doesn't but you have to book. The only benefit was we didn't have to hunt for a table. The buffet always had plenty salads, including very good cheese, and there was a good variety of beef, pork and fish dishes. For chicken you had to queue as it was cooked to order, at the same station where the "egg"celent omelettes were made at breakfast. Fruit was snapped up quickly, and there was always a queue for the ice cream. Staff in the dining room were good to poor -- they were generally not quick to clear tables for new diners to sit, and getting a drink could take a while. We found an area where we found the service was slightly better, and we stuck to it, and we brought our own drinks from the bar with us. Most evenings there was live music in the lobby of an evening. We enjoyed the 2 guitars and the 7-piece band best. The beach is wonderful (see my separate review) and the Starfish is about the middle of it. The resort has Hobie Cats, windsurfers, pedalos, kayaks and paddleboards, but the wind was such that the Hobie Cats could be sailed on only 2 of our 7 days, and then only with a staff member None of the other equipment could be used at all. There were plenty of loungers, shade and 2 bars, one serving snacks. We found quieter spots at the eastern end of Starfish's property. We were there for relaxation, and spent much of each day on the beach. We only went to the pool a couple of times, didn't go on any excursions. We only used the pay-as-you-go wi-fi once -- couldn't quite manage a whole week off the grid! The only really bad negative for us was the smoking -- it seemed everybody but us smoked, everywhere except the dining room, and we couldn't avoid it. Luckily our neighbours' sliding door squeaked loudly, so we had a few seconds to close our door to try and avoid the smoke. DO NOT PAY for the executive lounge at the airport unless you're a smoker!

We just returned on Mar 16, from our family vacation at this resort !! First time to Cuba, therefore first time to Starfish, and we most definitely will return! We were a little nervous before going for a few different reasons, but no real concerns or issues, besides the minor things you can expect at times. No water pressure during certain times of the day. We have picky children and thought we may have a hard time food wise, but every day every one was able to find decent meals to eat !! Service was hit and miss at lobby bar and in the buffet, but I have to say pool bar, omelet and grill and beach bar/grill we have amazing service!! Yordany and Kenny were by far our favs at the pool bar! Entertainment was awesome as well ! We didn’t see much at the beach as we were down further from where they held the entertainment. But at theatre the evening shows and kids shows were entertaining ! The pool though was our favourite, we participated in anything and everything we could and had a blast! Jazzy (not sure how she spells it), Pablo and Hector were all very inviting and were sooo fun! Jazzy took to my girls so much, knew by name and had so much fun with them. One of my daughters celebrated her birthday during our stay, the staff was amazing! She had a cake baked for her, she was sung to numerous times and treated so special! Beach was stunning! Most beautiful beach I have ever seen !! As for cleanliness, rooms were decent, restaurants and bars were good! Public bathrooms weren’t the best but manageable ! All in all we had an amazing time and we will definitely be returning !!
