Starfish Cayo Santa Maria garners acclaim for its pristine beaches, sparkling pools, and lively entertainment, though some guests mention food and amenity restrictions. While room experiences range from pristine and roomy with impressive views to some reports of cleanliness and upkeep concerns, the staff's dedication and warmth consistently receive high marks. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere, punctuated by festive live performances, contributes to its charm.
Value-wise, it is generally regarded as cost-effective, despite occasional food quality issues. The location's beachfront beauty is often described as unparalleled in Cuba, and overall cleanliness is a standout feature.

Our experience at the Cayo Santa Maria was wonderful. The entire team works hard to provide guests with everything, even in difficult times! I’ve been to Cuba many times, this was the best experience, with the most welcoming and attentive staff. The food was higher-end Cuban fare. If you’ve been to Cuba, you understand the food there. At the buffet they served beef and chicken filets every day - get there early to get this. The beef bourguignon was really good. The fresh fruit juices, sliced fruit, cheese and ham was also excellent. I recommend the beach grill at lunch as well.
The entertainment team was super engaging and a lot of fun, the staff was always looking to provide pleasant experiences and fun.
The beach was windy but so beautiful and clean. You can’t ask for a more picture perfect tropical paradise. The sand was beautifully white and there was no dangerous coral or anything like that in the water - unlike other resorts I’ve been to in Cuba. People were happy there, overall a great atmosphere.
The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. I had ann upgraded ocean view room which was close to the path to the beach The ocean view was a bit obstructed by plants, but overall you aren’t really there to be sitting in your room.
Note that the property is fairly large so you wil have to walk back and forth from the main complex with the food and hotel lobby to the rooms, depending on where you are located. They use little carts to drive people around on arrival or departure with your luggage.
**At the time of our visit it was a difficult time in Cuba, so there were some issues on a few of the days like no milk for the coffee, or they ran out of bread, or had a lower selection of drinks. These were slight inconveniences but made sense given the situation in the country at the time. If you are worried bring what you need with you. Or check the situation in Cuba before you book your trip. It is an isolated place. There is a store on premises but it’s limited to what they have. If they are fully stocked it’s probably okay, but in our situation it wasn’t much help. You had what you had.
I didn’t do any excursions this was mainly a relax on the beach trip and it was perfect for that. You can no beat this beach for the crystal clear waters, white sand and solitude.
A very enjoyable experience and isolated get away!

I have visited this resort before and continue to return as I always have the best experiences here. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff who always ensure our stay is pleasant and comfortable. The lobby bar is a great place to relax, enjoy a cigar and delicious cappuccino or fantastic cocktail, and socialize with other travelers. The service staff are prompt and friendly, always checking if you need another beverage and clearing away empty glasses to keep the area clean and tidy. In the evening, we saw some live performances - the band was very talented and if I had any rhythm, I would have been up there dancing with the others. The accommodations are comfortable and clean. Our room was cleaned every day and our maid ensured we had necessities like water left for us upon our return from hot days at the pool/beach. Our towels were switched often and I appreciate the extra details like the little creatures our maid was able to make with the towels. At the buffet, we were always seated quickly and offered drinks before going up to grab a bite. There was plenty of food and trays were refilled often. The crispy bacon every morning was just what we needed to start the day off right and the grilled chicken made fresh at dinner is worth the short wait while the chef prepares it hot and fresh for you. And the entertainment! The high energy entertainment crew wants to make sure you have the best time. Lovely music and dancing at afternoon pool parties, we had a foam party on the Friday of our vacation which is a blast. If you prefer something a little slower, they do stretching on the beach in the morning to get your day started with gentle movement. They also have music and an awesome beach bar a few steps from shore. Again, service was fast and friendly there too. There was plenty of seating available both poolside and at the beach. I was pleased that we didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to go claim a spot. Another pleasant surprise was the catamaran rides included with our stay. We saw them parked on the beach and wandered up. Daniel took us on a fun little trip along the shore line and we had a lovely conversation with him while sailing. If you’re looking for a fun, friendly resort that is clean and comfortable, 10/10 would recommend. I can’t wait to go back.

We stayed for 7 days at Starfish Cayo Santa Maria and everything was great. For the price, it was a great deal. The beach is the finest white sand I’ve ever seen, the waters were very clear. There are dance lessons throughout the day, the pool is perfect for children and my kids enjoyed it a lot, I love the pool bar, we missed the foam party as we did the excursion that day, make sure you ask what day they do the foam party at the pool if this is something you look forward to. Our room was always clean, we only asked for clean service every other day and we always leave tips and present for our housekeeper Elianay, which she appreciates a lot, she wrote thank you notes every time and decorated our room with gumamela flowers at the last service. The hotel staff were very nice, polite and respectful. The two brothers Duany and Dany in the buffet were great and were attentive to us, they are very polite and treated as like VIPs. The gardeners have fresh coconut fruits around lunch onwards, please don’t forget to tip the staff, anyone who provides great service. They serve you with all their heart without really expecting anything as it is their job but when you tip them, they feel recognized, and you can see in their faces how appreciative they are. The first time we went to the beach, the beach guy who took us to a good spot and got the beach bed ready was super nice, he left right away, and I was not able to give anything to him. On the last day, he was there again, he got us a nice small beach table for our drinks, and I gave him $5 US and told him we still owed him the last time and he was so happy as he did not expect it. They still serve you even if you didn’t give anything the first time, they are struggling economically, and small tips go a long way. We tried to tip every service in the buffet in smaller amounts $1 or $2 is fine, as not everyday they are working, and if we missed them on the last day, we may not be able to give them anything and they will not feel recognized, that way we can make sure we make them feel recognized of their efforts. The entertainment staff provided good entertainment everyday in the pool or beach and at night in the theatre, pool or beach. Leonardo tries to build a connection with every guest and try to make conversations. He is very friendly and speaks English well, better than anyone I talked there. His team is not acknowledged well as they provide service to all guests as a whole for the most part, not individually, so if you are really happy with the entertainment, maybe tipping for the whole entertainment for them share is a good idea too. The bellmen were very polite, they can take you to the pueblo if you don’t want to walk there. The food is not as tasty like in Canada, but it was good enough, I managed my expectations about their food and I was able to adapt quickly. Wifi is limited to 4 hours at a time, but you can get more when your 4 hours run out and it is free. Everything was great in Starfish and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Since CK Satur deletes negative comments and reviews on fb, I decided to post a review this way as well.
For the fact that we took this vacation, the travel agency should pay us and not ask for money. It is a shame that they offer this "quality" of services to Slovaks. I would like to point out that it was not our first time in Cuba, but unfortunately it was the first time through a Slovak passport - and the last.
The island of Cayo Santa Maria - is literally an island of ghosts, the hotels are old, empty, musty and dirty, at most 20% full, tourists haven't been there for a long time, only this fantastic travel company decided why they wouldn't offer what was discarded long ago abroad Slovaks. We were on a walk around the island and found out that apart from a few abandoned, empty and non-functional hotels, there is really nothing. When you ask for a taxi at the reception, they always present you with a different and exaggerated price.
Staff - lazy, burnt out, unwilling, there were about 10 of them in an area that could be handled by two smart housewives, and they all just stood there and watched what you were loading - the reason is probably that the employees took their food home, which I have no problem with , but it is quite unpleasant when someone is watching your every step, instead of cleaning the mess from the tables. The highlight of the stay was when the swimmer handed me a liter thermos on the way to the bar, asking me to fill him with beer.
Rooms - old equipment, I'm guessing the 70s, spindly, musty, damp and dark, full of cockroaches, unclean, greasy, hygiene 0 points. It was practically impossible to ventilate these rooms from the smell and humidity, everything was damp, we even had to sleep on damp beds. Advice over gold - don't look under the sheet.
Food - we come to the worst part of the entire vacation. This stay is suitable for people who have decided to undergo weight reduction. You have a few types of food to choose from, nothing is overcooked, and on the third day everything turns to your stomach. I'm not even going to list it further, because it would be 3xA4. I would also like to point out that we thought it was only our hotel's problem, but at the airport we found out that all tourists from other hotels were staying. The hotel lacks basic raw materials such as milk for coffee. If you have picky children, stay away from this hotel, because I guarantee they won't want to eat with you.
Beach - this hotel is said to have the most beautiful beach on the island. I have to say that the beach was really nice, white sand, turquoise sea... All that changed when they brought algae to the beach. We are not from yesterday and we know that this is a trivial matter. But the fact that 10 employees sit on the beach all day and do nothing is another matter. The entire beach was thickly covered with algae and no one even thought of cleaning the beach. The employees who were sitting there should have done it within an hour without any problems.
Excursions - incredibly overpriced, but since you can't get off the island yourself, because there is nothing around, you have no other option than to pay a hefty hotel commission

I spent 16 full days in Cuba and in this hotel they were my best 5 unforgettable days, basically, they treated me like at home.
I 100% recommend this hotel because it is super familiar, quiet, always good vibes and energy there, and the people are friendly and calm.
Incredible adventures happen here, conversations without time and space, all its place and infrastructure are combined in a warm environment where you are experiencing your vacation...
I was able to make friends who would remain with a bond of brotherhood forever, above all, the people who attend there are super friendly and it is a pleasure to interact with them.
The food was incredible, sometimes repetitive, but that doesn't matter, but with it you get energy to continue enjoying your days; all well cooked, fresh and abundant. The staff is amazing, from the moment I arrived at the hotel they treated me excellent and tried to carefully resolve an issue in my room with success.
The reception: Attentive at all times and clears up your doubts in a correct and warm manner
Buffet: Most of the waiters are authentic, friendly and polite, they treated me very well
The concierge Ricardo polite, well spoken, understanding, accurate and friendly
The animators were incredible, above all I remember Juan Carlos for his joy, respect and professionalism, who at all times made me feel joy and fun within the activities in which I had a great time. In addition to Leonel and Joan.
Comfort is a great point to highlight, I was relaxed at all times, especially in the rooms and spaces to be used. That's why the time to clean and make the beds would be a priority (to improve)
The resolution of problems from the staff that makes the reports is incredible, when the client requests something missing or necessary, they take it immediately and do it, it is an excellent job that they do and they are punctual online.
It has a beautiful exit to the sea, next to a bar to order a drink and go down to enjoy the Caribbean Sea in its maximum splendor; here a whole illuminated path type material path, next to a shower.
The pool is fascinating, its water is super clean and clear, at a good temperature, there is space all the time, and people share their items to play in the water, and everything is emulsified in a beautiful environment.
Just come to starfish to spend incredible days, alone or with company, you will spend unforgettable days with incredible people, highly recommended!

The resort is very large and beautiful, but during our stay there were 18 people on the first day, then 33 in mid-January 2025. We have never seen such an empty resort. It was a dead city. None of the a la carte restaurants were open, their breakfast was a joke, and they were constantly running out of food and had flies in their salads all the time. No butter for bread, no vegetables for morning omelettes. Only one day they threw us a feast and served Crayfish with pasta for dinner, apparently they invited another chef from somewhere. This was the strangest resort we have ever been to. During the entire 7 days I was in the pool, I was the only one who swam there, although the workers were constantly cleaning, the gardeners were constantly working. It was so strange. On a wonderful beach, seaweed was collected every morning, apparently just for us, and morning aerobics was carried out by 5 workers with 2-3 guests. We must give these guys credit, they worked at 100 every day. There were wonderful night discos. People came from other resorts, so it was fun. But then we went to neighboring resorts for breakfast, lunch and dinner, or the workers of our resort themselves took us, for which we thank them very much! It was essentially an abandoned resort. It's quite sad because the employees were very nice and this place definitely has potential. Check before you book this place.

My husband and I stayed at Starfish Cato Santa Maria for 2 weeks - March 30th to April 13th. We stayed in Building 26, room 2605 on ground floor which is next to path to the beach. Our preference as we are beach people. Nice room, king size bed, always hot water, around 5:30 usually low water pressure, great maid ( her towel art was so creative) and always quiet as this building is farther away from main lobby. All the staff are friendly, always smiling and greeting you and very helpful. The chair fellows at the beach always found chairs and a shady spot for us. I can only remember the name of one fellow, Hosea. Silly games, yoga, aqua exercise , volleyball or soccer on the beach every morning. Animation staff made the rounds each morning at the beach to greet each person. Buffett had minimal shortages during our stay, only a few days missing butter and milk. We brought powered coffee whitener with us and only used it twice. Lots of rice, chicken, pork and fish. some days shrimp and one day lobster. At the a la carte we had lobster twice and could have had it another night. Not bad lobster 3 times in 14 days. We found the food had lots of flavour. Especially enjoyed the omelets each morning and bacon most mornings. There was no cheese for the 14 days of our stay. People at other resorts there told us they had lots of cheese but no butter or bacon. The shortages seem to vary from week to week. Overall the only thing we missed was the cheese and pizza. Love the cheese in Cuba. So on that note we got a ride on the golf cart to the Estrella market and had pizza at a restaurant called Trattoria. Enjoyed their pizza, cost was $19 CDN for 2 dinner plate size pizzas and 2 colas, a good deal. There are other restaurants at the market and lots of vendors set up there. Easy access as Starfish provides a drive on the golf carts over and back to the resort. An enjoyable 2 weeks. The staff as many others have said do make the resort.

We're vacationing with our wife in this hotel now. The hotel was accidentally hit. Booked a tour to Varadero, the tour operator offered a combined tour. Two days in Havana, six days on Cayo Santa Maria at the Resonans Mysigue Santa Maria Hotel and the rest of the vacation in Varadero. You will not find reviews of this hotel. as it only opened on November 30 after renovation under the new name Resonans Musig, previously called Starfish. In short, Impressions are the most pleasant. The spacious rooms, with everything you need (refrigerator, TV, large wardrobes, chest of drawers, and table with a bunch of drawers, sofa, iron, ironing board.) all rooms with balconies or terraces, are located in 3 floor buildings on a huge territory. Talking about Cuba's beaches probably doesn't make sense, they're great. I will say that the beach is quite long probably not one km., so the people scatter all over the beach and there is no crowding. The beach has a Bar and animation. You want privacy, you're 200 meters away and you're alone. About nutrition: nothing to pick on. Constantly for breakfast, lunch and dinner, grilled 2 types of meat, or fish. Delicious fish, beef in a bucket, food decent. A lot of waiters who don't leave you out for a minute. Animation team, generally beautiful. Entertaining, trying, and they're good at it. Even if you don't have company to play pool or big ping pong, they'll always keep you company. The bars on site are open 24 hours a day. Cocktails are a big choice and they're not bad. Since my wife and I don't speak non-Spanish, non-English, there were initial communication problems. But the guys at the front desk, they found guys on the staff who are fluent in Russian. It's Ricardo or Alberto. Both used to study in Russia and our mentality is family. Thank you so much to these guys, they made our vacation carefree!

Starfish Cayo Santa Maria, was a lovely and is a lovely resort. Me and my wife had a great time there during Christmas and New Year’s. The weather was fantastic and the celebration of Christmas and New Year’s was fantastic. The amount of food they prepared and all the other special things they did for Christmas and New Year’s was over the top. It was a great holiday. We were there for 10 days and the people are absolutely fantastic. and when you go to consider the rooms, the rooms are very well-kept clean and nice. We always had hot water and fresh water and bottles put in our room for us. The staff at the resort go above and beyond to help you enjoy your holiday and try to do everything they possibly can to make you happy.

First I must say, I never write reviews, but after our stay at the Starfish Santa Maria, I had to tell you it’s the best decision choosing this resort, great deal through Sunwing as always. I’ve been to Cuba 5 times, we usually stay in Varadaro, but always wanted to try a different area, the reviews were impressive for this resort, so I booked.
Santa Maria is a little drive from airport but was quick as is was like a mini tour where you saw and learned about the little towns on your way.
The location of the resort was perfect, on the most beautiful stretch of beach I’ve ever been to in Cuba with lots of beach chairs and umbrellas. The property is well maintained and spacious, the Pool is magnificent very large, the pool bar was so much fun with great entertainment, lots to drink.
We loved our balcony room, very clean, and large, overlooking the pool, the Mattress and pillows were very comfortable. We never had a complaint about anything.
Saw many reviews about the food, there is an abundance of food at the buffet, fish, grilled calamari, chicken, pork, pasta, salads, great deserts, the list goes on. Best bacon I’ve ever had . The restaurant has great food also we had steak one night, the beach bar-grill, had grilled sandwiches, hamburger, hotdog, I always take my own hot sauce and salad dressing. They never ran out of beer, wine, liquor like other places I’ve been, in Cuba. This is going to be my 6th time, and going back to same resort February 21st, this time 5 friends are joining us, thoroughly love this spot. Oh I never got eaten up by mosquitoes or sand fleas at this resort, and I took bug spray never had to use it.
The entertainment team is the best I’ve seen in Cuba. The staff is wow, top tier, our room attendant Loudas, is the best, and very artistic. The foyer has a bar/coffee bar where they serve lattes, expresso, cappuccinos, HELLO to, Raul, Leonardo, Carlos, Yiter(sorry if I spelt it wrong) the bar tender who found me aloe for my sun burn face, we love you guys.
We also had the Pleasure of meeting the GM while we were there, thank you for being so kind we loved talking with you. See you soon G&F
