I am a spoiled brat and I liked this resort. I was graduating from a law school facing 6-figure student debt, thus I was looking for something on the relatively cheaper end, but still a fairly decent place. This resort accomplished those objectives. I am rating this resort and my experience as 4.5-4.7 stars. Pros: -quite, really quite - no silly shows, no dancing, no aerobics in a swimming pool - none of that nonsense, almost no music, however when rarely played it was on a low volume; -marginal, if any, lineups; -unsaturated beach; -unsaturated swimming pools; - no sargassum seaweed (February 2020); - we resided in a townhouse-type room (did not upgrade); - availability of high-quality spirits; -in my subjective opinion, the cost-benefits analysis renders a positive ratio. Cons: I do not really have any. Neutral comments: at least one restaurant was closed, but we could not care less about it nor did the closure of the said restaurant adversely affected our vacation; Should you wish to be served higher-quality liquor and/or alcoholic beverage you must ask specifically i.e. not may I please have scotch/gin/vodka, but rather may I please have Chivas 18/Tanqueray/Belveder; not the place for singles unless your objective is to rest, recover, and regain energy. With that being said you will have privileges to a nearby massive (whatever its name is) hotel with all the parties, music, thousands of people, etc. Limited access to the internet. You will have to purchase additional time; however, it was surprisingly cheap. I think we paid $10-$20 more for the extra usage, and we did use it a lot (mostly work-related e-mails; however, the speed was good. We even had wi-fi reception on the beach!). relatively "limited" food options. I say relatively because it really depends. Compared to Michelin star restaurants, high-end steak houses, and/or 5-7 starts European hotels it might seem so. Everyone kept telling me there is a "food problem" in Cuba. I would like to take this moment to emphasize that there was not a single moment that I felt there is a "food problem" or shortage in any way. Perhaps there were fewer selections of cheese or meat cuts than in a 5-star Mexican hotel, but do not forget that you pay 40%-60% less for this resort that you will have to pay for the equivalent-type resort in Mexico or DR, etc. A few cloudy days. I guess nothing you can do, but no rain thou.

We stayed at the Royalton, Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba Feb. 24 to Mar. 2, 2020. The weather was fantastic for the first 4 days, the last 3 were cooler. Upon our arrival we were greeted with a cocktail and quickly brought to our room. Our butlers Zadys and Mario were fantastic. They took such good care of us. Made our dinner reservations, made sure our mini bar was filled and there was always a cold bottle of wine in the fridge when we got back to our room. We had a fruit platter and dessert platter left in our room . Yolanda always made sure our room was spotless. They couldn't do enough for us. Always a smile on their faces and asking if we needed anything. We stayed on the Royalton side for most of our meals. We did venture to the Italian restaurant one evening (Grand Memories side). It was good, just not great. The gala evening at the Royalton was definitely worth going to. The food was delicious. The quesadillas at the beach were very tasty. Also had lunch at the grill a few times and this was also very good. They were often missing things in the restaurants (hit and miss - bacon, butter, orange juice one day). The staff is great. They do the best they can with what they have. Beach is beautiful and you can always find a place to sit. The same around the pools. The towel game is played. People reserve chairs by the pool then sit down at the beach. We had waiter service around the pool and at the beach. This resort is definitely worth the extra money. When you stay at the Royalton, you can use the facilities at Memories Paraiso, Grand Memories, and Sanctuary at Grand Memories.

We have been to 4 other hotels in beautiful Santa Maria and have enjoyed our stays every time. But we were always curious of paying more for the Royalton. Well... we were not disappointed!!! The smaller site has beautifully kept landscapes, nice big rooms and everything is a short walk distance. The good is always tasty and we ate well all week. No complaints, and I am picky. But what makes this resort so wonderful is for sure the staff! Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The beach is AMAZING and even if you have to go early for chairs, find your spot and enjoy! The beach snack bar offer yummy quesadilla type sandwiches, even for vegetarians or pescatalians. Situated right beside the market, it makes for a fun spot to shop for trinkets. Javier and Michel made us feel like family! Gracias for the presents and cheese platter ! So hospitable. We will be back for sure ! Don’t hesitate! It is worth the extra money.

This was our second visit to the Royalton resort. We enjoy being there since staff is so friendly and kind. It was my birthday while we were there, and we chose not to say anything. While we were having dinner, the staff at one of the restaurants shut off the lights and brought out a cake singing happy birthday. Our butler Noelvis, Omar and Liam did a great (and sneaky!) job to surprise us. Dayami and Julita were also so helpful and kind they did a great job with our room. The beautiful towel decorations and the daily fresh flowers we great added touch. The food was great I felt the portions were generous – sometime too much. The beach is amazing plenty of shade for everyone. The pools are beautiful and very clean. Our only complaint would be there isn’t enough shade around the pools. Thank you to all the Royalton staff for a great trip once again!

We stayed 10 days in the Royalton to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and a birthday. The hotel was spacious, very clean and well laid out. The grounds were beautifully kept with many plants and flowers. The swimming pool had many loungers and the one we used ( near reception )always quiet. The beach, with ample loungers, was stunning. Beautiful clean fine white sand and turquoise sea. WiFi was available in the reception area and at the lower swimming pool. Our cabana was very comfortable and although needing a bit of tlc was more than adequate. It was lovely to see our daily towel sculpture and the plate of fresh fruit put daily in the fridge was a nice touch. The staff, including the butlers, the waiters and waitresses, the cleaners and the gardeners were all polite, professional and cheerful. The reason I haven’t given the Royalton 5 stars was the quality of the food. The evening meals, other than the buffet evening, were very similar for the 10 days. Portions were small, all the soup tasted the same even though called different names and there was very little vegetarian choices. We only ate a few lunches as we were dissatisfied with the toughness of the fish and meat from the bbq. We would rather have eaten Cuban cuisine and was surprised that this wasn’t offered each evening as a choice.
