    Fantastic resort
Stayed here for 8 nights in March. From the start we knew is was going to be good. Met by our Butler, Juan at reception who showed us around the resort and took us into our room(622), WOW is was stunning, a large living area, two double beds nice size bathroom, with outdoor shower, dressing area and plenty of room for storing your clothes and overlooking Sunset beach. We had another butler, Sergio who was equally as good. Arranging laundry for you, always asking if you needed anything in the room. I did ask for teabags and milk, and every time we saw him he asked if we needed any more. Asked for more shower gel, and it was there by the time we got to the room. Both of them also made our dinner reservations, apart from the first night we used La Caribes restaurant because the menu changed daily. I'm a fussy eater but always found something to eat and also tried a few new things, our waitress for the whole time was Saily, what a delight a 21 one year old beautiful young lady, she looked after us really well, even decorating the table for us on the last night and making sure we had a bottle of sparkling wine, as she knew this was my favourite. For lunch time we didn't go in the buffet restaurant but ate at the pool bar, this again was a great experience, the chef cooked excellent pizza, chicken, hot dogs etc. The bar staff, including Lester, Erik, Dauerty to name but a few were a joy to meet, kept us amused whilst having a rest from the sun. The entertainment in the evening at the Lobby bar was soo good, even one of the bartenders doing the Salsa. It made my night. I could go on with complements for this resort but you really need to try it for yourselves. Unfortunately the hotel closed 4 days after we left because of Coronavirus, I wish all the staff and management good fortune for the future and hope when this is over they will be able to open up again and give many travellers and excellent holiday as we had.

    Restorative Paradise, Pristine Beaches!
We recently returned to the Melia Buenavista for our second visit. The first was September 2019! The resort is just as lovely as we remembered with manicured gardens, two pools, and three beaches to choose from, who wouldn't be satisfied. The Buenavista offers large, spacious rooms ( our housekeeper Lianny everything clean daily :) with an incredible outdoor shower and huge tub to wash away the day's saltiness acquired at one of the three white sand beaches. The snorkelling here off the middle and long beaches was some of the best we've done so far in all of our travels with sightings of barracuda, lion fish, a white spotted blowfish, and even a reef shark, along with numerous schools of beautiful fish. We thought we were in the most abundant natural aquarium. Although the grounds and beaches are phenomenal, it's the staff that elevates this resort to a cut above the rest. From our pre-trip dialogue with Yamile in the booking department to our daily interactions with our great butlers Sergio and Ramon, we felt welcome and valued. Joan and Armando checked in with us often even though they buttlered in other sections. The pool bar crew (Yeri, Lester, Yoandry, Pedro and Pitti), Andres at the long beach, and our waiters Carlos, Yoan, and Yoel L kept us fed, watered and entertained. I visited the spa several times during our stay, where Elroy happily arranged my massages with Lester. He was professional and offered an array of helpful therapeutic choices. Nayy tailored his yoga class to the client's skills and requests. From the bar staff to the front desk personnel who helped us on numerous occasions, especially the last day when our flight was delayed. Everyone did their best to assist with our requests and make our stay memorable. Nightly entertainment was delivered in a small patio setting just off the gorgeous lobby bar. This intimate environment enables clients to experience the world class musicians up close and promotes mingling on an international scale. We met some wonderful friends! Although we don't go to Cuba for the food and having previously vacationed over 30 times and understanding the difficulties with supply chains, we were still very disappointed in the food and beverage quality. During our previous visit, the food was top notch with many delicious choices. This visit left us dissatisfied after many dinners over 14 days (breakfast and lunch were repetitive, but generally fine) and pondering Melia's five star rating as well as the higher vacation costs they charge. Perhaps reintroducing an international manager would help. Overall, we would recommend the Buenavista for those craving beautiful beaches, a restful, relaxed setting with low key activities, and most importantly great Cuban people who appreciate tourists visiting their island. Gracias por todo! Jim and Cindy

A tranquil paradise on a beautiful island
This is already our second visit to Melia Buenavista (MBV) in 2022. We loved it so much the first time, we simply turned around and went back. Many of the people you meet at MBV are also repeat customers. It is simply a superb place to go if you are looking for a tranquil holiday in a pristinely clean environment. MBV is located away from other resorts and offers three unblemished beaches to enjoy. The resort itself is lovely, but it is the staff who make the experience. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed, embraced and nurtured. Every morning at breakfast we were met by either Daymi or Lili, our butlers, who organized and took care of our daily needs and activities. They were constantly available from early morning until late evening to make certain we didn’t want for anything. A stroll to the pool had you greeted by Lester and Yery at the pool bar. Their generosity of spirit, kindness and empathy was shared with each and everyone of us. They were both interested in us and interesting to speak with. There were no requests too big or too small. Livan couldn’t have been kinder and more accommodating as he took care of us at the pool and quiet beach - always making certain we were happy. Pedro had a constant smile for us at the snack bar where he prepared our frequent pizzas. There are many activities to participate in - yoga, dance lessons, aquafit, and short lectures/tastings. While all instructors were wonderful, Navy was exceptional as he shared his zest for life, enthusiasm and professionalism. Many a night, he brought us all to the dance floor where we practiced the dance steps we’d learned during the day. We ate most of our meals at the Los Caribe’s restaurant as it featured local and Latin foods that we enjoy. We always sat in the sections Ailan and Yobani were assigned to given their warmth and kindness. Of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without recognizing Eduardo who made certain we always had water and coffee in our room and offered to bring a variety of other beverages at the same time. Maria, our housekeeper, added extra little touches so that we had fresh flowers and towel art to look forward to as we returned to our room. As you can see reading this, we only have positive memories OLG the resort, however, it is the staff who enriched our memories and will bring us back.
Dear Carol, First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to write on Trip Advisor... We are very pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay with us. We will surely share this review with all the people you are referring to. Thank you very much for highlighting the beauty of our beaches and especially the warmth of our staff, who are, without a doubt, our greatest attraction. Do not hesitate to contact us for your next visit, it will be a pleasure to welcome you again.

I debated myself whether to rate this hotel a 1 star or 5 star, it could very well be a 2 star hotel but at the end I’m giving them a 5 star solely because I don’t want to limit the job opportunities in the community. I’ll start with the good, The location is a paradise with amazing sunsets, white sand, crystal clear waters and biodiversity to top that the FOH (front of the house) staff melts with attentions to the guests, special thanks to Sergio and Christian our butler’s, Lester, Yankiel, Rey javier and Manuel at the bars. The waitresses Lusy, Dalji, Lizz, Glenda, Aldo all of them do an outstanding job. The entertainment team Navy and Anderson are key staff in your experience at this hotel since they provide amazing yoga sessions and aqua aerobics in the morning. The gardeners Lázaro and Yandi always making sure to have a coconut ready for you was amazing, this team deserves a 10 star rating if possible, having said this, the hotel is lacking serious management and top directors, There is no quality or sanitary control in the only restaurant you can have breakfast and lunch, the buffet was always full of flies the menu was repetitive consisting in pasta, chicken, fish and pork, forget about meat in here. It baffles me that management knows they receive international guests and they don’t have an international chef , the few options of food that you have are terrible, no flavour, bland and cold, this cannot be attributed to shortage of condiments since I spoke with the locals and they personally cook very well in their houses with onions, lemons, etc. so it’s definitely the hotel cheap budget impacting the overall experience, the wine served is the cheapest I’ve ever tried, watery and acidic, the chicken tastes like they only took the feathers out and grilled it, I felt nauseous the instant I swallowed my first bite, we were a party of 3 and the 3 of us got food poisoning, I spoke with our butler about this and he says is most likely the ice in the drinks but no, it’s all the e.coli of the flies in the buffet, this problem could easily be fixed by installing a plexy glass covered counters but directors lack initiative, the restaurant glass windows were always dirty, someone could be on top of cleaning this windows every morning but nope, management is okay with finger printed, greasy windows. The whole installation complex is decaying, the first day we arrived I wanted to take a shower at night and the light bulb was not working so I showered in the dark, I called the front desk to have someone fix it but that never happened during my 7 night stay. Broken sinks, broken handles, broken glass, the rooms have a balcony but the doors are lacking maintenance it was practically impossible for one person to open them, had to be two persons pulling very hard to get them open, again this could easily be fixed with some oil in the railings if management was efficient. Overall the amount you are paying does not reflect the value you get, I’m attaching a couple of pictures I took during our stay so you be the judge if it corresponds to a 5 star hotel, We can survive with a decaying building but the food for me was a breaking point because no one wants to get sick on their vacations.

We had a wonderful family vacation at MVB. This is not our first visit,  we have been to this resort every year since 2014. This is a long review, but for those wondering, we keep coming back for two reasons. First is the most amazing staff, they are like our family away from home. Second are the beaches, just amazing to have 3 beautiful beaches with unique features with lots of privacy. This resort offers a personalized experience to its customers, small and easy to get around, everyone is so friendly and by the end of the week, they all know who you are, what your favourite coffee is and what drinks you enjoy at the bar!  This past year we have seen some great updates and improvements around the pools with new chairs and overall maintenance. The staff: There are a few staff members at this resort that are behind the scenes and I want to give a shout-out  and mention how helpful they are. A day doesn’t go by without seeing most of them and they have become our family away from home. Truly making our vacation so special. We wanted to write this review and let MBV know how much we  appreciate all the great work they do to keep everyone happy. Lily, Joel and Daymi are outstanding butlers and they have been taking care of us in all the years we have been coming to this resort, from arranging our dinner reservations at MBV or the other sister resorts, wonderful surprises of fresh fruit in the room at the end of the day and helping out with any other special requests to make your stay comfortable. We have known them for years and I can’t say enough about how professional and incredibly hard working and helpful they all are. Although we didn’t have Armando as our butler, this is another wonderful person who was around to help us  if needed, always greeting us at the morning buffet with a huge hello. We met him years ago, and one time when I got a horrible sunburn and he helped us out with some fresh aloe. All the butlers work different days during the week and what I like most is how they check-in on you at the morning breakfast location, they find us mid-day at the beach or pool to see if we needed anything for later on that night. Dailyn at reception is incredible at what she does and  always has a smile and provides the utmost professional service at reception. She has always helped us to figure out the bus to visit the sister resort, bus service back to the airport and really anything you need, she will be a great resource. The past two visits to this resort we had the pleasure to meet this young man - Dayron. He is the one who replenishes all the fresh water bottles in our room daily. He also made sure our fridge was well stocked with soft drinks and beer everyday. He is incredibly  kind, informative and helpful. On a previous visit earlier this year, he was also at the middle evening bar and was excellent at making our drinks and was helping out at the bar. MBV, it would be great to see him back at the bar as his customer service skills are impeccable, he speaks great English, is personable and very professional! Sandra was our evening service lady who came by to drop off clean towels and create all the wonderful towel art in our room with fresh flowers. She also took the time to tell us about the entertainment happening that night! At the lobby bar in the morning make sure to stop by and get an delicious cappuccino by Luis, Anais or Leydi. I don’t know how they do it but they always remembered bailey’s in our morning coffee and in the evening our favourite rum. The beaches and pool: At the beach, you will come across Livan at the middle beach. Daily he made sure we found a spot on the beach, always setting up our towels at the middle beach and showing us where to find some colourful starfish and giving us tips on  snorkel spots! A great man. Most days we were always snorkelling. The beaches are the best. So much to see at all 3 beaches, each with a different vibe. The far beach was quiet, great to read a book and catch the musicians at the sunset ceremony and a glass of wine. The middle beach was our favourite spot for snorkelling and there is lots to see just past the rocks to the left. The far beach, great waves, endless sandy beach and when the waves aren’t rolling in, check out this beach for great snorkelling as well. We also enjoyed the afternoon pool aerobics with Navi and Andrenxon Coll, they always made the actives fun. If you can gather a few people, get them to set up a net for a late afternoon game of volleyball! In the evening, they were setting up things for sunset ceremony, organizing entertainment by the pool or bar and getting everyone up to dance later on in the evening. Truly a lot of fun.   The food; Our waiter Carlos for breakfast made sure to have our table ready for us every morning as we were a larger group. He also knew our breakfast favourites.. thank you for the crispy bacon!! Lusy at the Los Navegantes restaurant - greeted us with a smile each night we came and took good care of us. Yosvany at the Los Caribes restaurant was also another great waiter so professional and always helpful when choosing options on the menu. We know Cuba sometimes has challenges with food supplies, but we had lovely meals throughout the trip - pasta, lobster, chicken, pork… I had great desserts after dinner.   Piti and Pedro make delicious pizzas and burgers by the pool! Lester at the pool bar makes the best mojito’s and really any drink you want, he can make it!! He has been there since we have been coming to this resort and we really enjoy hanging around the bar and chatting with him, very professional, friendly and terrific bartender!  David and Javier will keep your drinks full at the beach and pool, they are all such hard working staff! All this to say, the wonderful kind hearted and genuine staff that are now our family at MBV are one of the main reasons why we always come back! Thank you MBV for yet another perfect vacation. I highly recommend this resort to others, it is a peaceful, tranquil relaxing vacation spot. Thank you for the great memories.

Have been to Cuba many times. But for the first time went to Melia Buenavista, adults only hotel. We like our experience. Resort is very beautiful, has a lot of beautiful palm trees. Very quiet. Nice service in the cafe for breakfast and lunch, and in the restaurants for supper. Has three beaches: one for beautiful sunsets, second for snorkling, third for swimming. Special thanks to Nardel, Aniel, Yanoski A. at the reception for your commitment. To Aldo -waiter at breakfast and lunch, Yosvany - waiter at Los Caribes, Liz -waiter at Los Navigantes, Luis, Anais, Leydi at the La notte bar. To Yamila - massage therapist, Mila - hairstylist, Navi - our Spanish lesson teacher, Daimi, Yanny, Joel -our batlers for making our trip unforgetable. We enjoyed everyday beach time, supper time and specially life music at night. Don't forget your mosquito repellent if you want to travel to this resort. We had it that's why we enjoyed our stay, but those who didn't have it were bitten by mosquitoes who come out at night time.

This was our 4th trip to Cuba and our first to Cayo Santa Maria. We absolutely loved this resort - best trip to Cuba yet! PROS: *September is part of the slow season and resort was at 1/4 capacity. * Although Cuba isn't known for having outstanding cuisine, this resort had the best food we've had on Cuban trip so far. * 3 different beaches and 2 pools to check out. On one beach you can watch the sunrise, on another the sunset. * A couple good places to snorkel right off the beaches. * Staff super friendly - ANDRE at the Beach Bar (east side of resort) was AMAZING! He kept us well hydrated and made our days on the beach fabulous. * Adults only * You have a "butler" assigned to you for the week that books your dinner reservations each night (2 restaurants) and helps you with any other requests. You also have a chambermaid that cleans your room. The staff are all super friendly. * Outdoor private shower at each room and is HEAVEN! CONS: * 1.5 hour ride from airport * Sometimes the rooms run out of water for showers but it comes back. * Wifi in our room didn't work but we didn't really care because we spent 7 days on the beach swimming and reading. * Bring bug lotion/spray - you will need it once the sun starts going down. We definitely plan to come back to this resort in 2024!

My favourite place in Cuba! My 3rd time at this resort and I can’t wait to come back next year! We love this place and the staff are like family to us. Three beautiful beaches, with the best snorkelling in the middle beach and the most amazing sunsets at the far end beach. I loved the intimate smaller resort, it was calm and relaxing, as the hotel was less than half capacity at the time we went. Enjoyed the afternoon pool aerobics with Navi and Andrenxon Coll. Thank you to Livan for always setting up our towels at the middle beach and showing us where to find some pretty starfish! At the lobby bar in the morning make sure to stop by and get an delicious cappuccino by Luis, Anais or Leydi. Our waiter Carlos for breakfast was so kind and always had our table ready for us every morning as we were a group of 5 and they moved tables around for us to enjoy breakfast all together. Piti and Pedro make awesome pizzas and burgers by the pool. Lester at the pool bar makes the best mojito. David and Javier will keep your drinks full at the beach and pool, they are all such hard working staff! Lusy at the Los Navegantes restaurant was the sweetest and took good care of us. Yosvany at the Los Caribes restaurant was so funny and nice. We had lovely meals throughout the trip. Lily, Joel and Daymi are amazing butlers and will take care of you throughout your trip. Dayron was always making sure my fridge in my room was filled with water and beer everyday and is so friendly and kind. This resort is a very quiet retreat with limited amenities, but everything is elevated by the staff. There is only a few negatives I would say: 1) Upon arrival, we were very hungry, but the kitchen was closed and there was nothing they could give us, even though the website advertised 24 hour food service. We had the same issue on 3 other nights during our 7 night stay - they weren't able to give us any food. 2) There are only 3 restaurants on the resort, one has breakfast & lunch, and the two others do dinner. Dinner was the best meal, but the quality and variety of the other meals and was usually not great. 3) The resort is VERY quiet. Most days there was no music or anything at the pools or beaches. Definitely pack a speaker for music or some entertainment for yourself. Now, the much longer list of positives: The staff who we interacted with were beyond helpful, and very kind. I want to give special mention to a few staff members who made our trip very memorable: At the lobby and beach bars: Luis, Leydi, Anaïse, Mike W, and Andrès. They made the best drinks and always were happy to see us. They are the best bartenders we've ever had! Our Chambermaid: Lanni, kept the room very clean and was very courteous with us when our checkout was flooded with rain Dayron, who brought drinks to our room every day and always went out of his way to say hello and talk with us. He also works the bars and was the best whenever he was there. Perdomo, the attendant on the sunset beach, is very kind and happy to see us every morning. He was always fishing for barracuda and gave us great tips for fishing on the resort, and even helped us capture bait worms. Liban, the attendant at the main beach, also gave us great fishing tips, and helped us get fresh coconuts to drink. And above all, Elynei and Joel, our butlers, were absolutely amazing. They helped us with everything we needed and were the pinnacle of "Royal Service". They always knew how to find us on the resort, and always made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. On top of that, they are wonderful people and gave us great tips for food, relaxing, and fishing in the area. If you come to this resort, you must request Elynei and Joel as your butlers! If you're into fishing, this is a great resort for it. You must bring your own equipment, but the three beaches offer a variety of fish to get from Red & Yellow Snapper, Barracuda, Jacks, Tarpon, and more. Sea Worms are best used as bait, and the staff will help you grab some (Perdomo is the best at this!). If you like to fish, request Joel as your butler - he knows the best spots and will be very helpful. Snorkeling is great here, but again you must bring your own equipment as they do not provide it. Overall, I would recommend this resort if you're looking for a very quiet getaway, especially if you're looking to fish. The beaches and entertainment are much less than in other resorts in the area.

We've been here, me and my girlfriend with another couple of friends. It has been an amazing experience, starting from the kindness from the whole staff, to the breathless sunset on the white beach. The food is the best you can get all over Cayo Santa Maria (mainly suggested is the lobster from Los Navegantes). Even a good choice is the grill open till late night to get a burger or a slice of handmade pizza, other than the Piña Colada from David at the pool bar. I personally didn't have the experience of the massage and Spa, but from my girlfriend has been said as one of the best she has ever had. The general manager Moad and all his staff is the pearl of the place: kindness, readiness and a proven experience in welcoming people will make your stay here as incredible as you can think. A special thank goes to Ray, for his patience and calm in resolving everything you ask for. My only regret? Haven't taken a day more here in Melià Buenavista. Hope to come back soon and we'll done to everyone here!
