Superb resort, brilliant service and excellent food. The organisation was first class, the snorkelling was unreal and the overwater villa was awesome. Anyone moaning about this place has seriously lost the plot. If you want to be picky there’s always little niggles about any place but this was a slice of paradise that is rare to find these days. Thanks to all the staff for making this holiday truly memorable. We will be back

Like another reviewer, I wasn’t 100% sold at first, but Filitheyo definitely, quickly grows on you - like the density of its tropical vegetation. +ve’s: - Beautiful house-reef : lovely to see corals thriving and re-generating. You can snorkel amidst huge shoals of colourful fish that make you feel at one with the marine world; In addition, we saw closely, the resident sharks, turtles, eagle rays, moray eels, a rather serious looking barracuda and even an octopus on our last snorkel of the holiday. - accommodation: semi detached superior villa with outdoor bathroom ( shower and watch the fruit bats) and sheltered verandah was perfect. Right on beach front with views of ocean between the palms, plenty of sun lounging space and easy access for swimming and snorkelling. - no entertainment - perfect for tranquility. TV in room - didn’t even pick up the remote - why would you in the Maldives? WiFi - why bother? Had a much needed tech break then bought 12 hours worth for under £20 on last day for the IMUGA immigration stuff and flight check in. They charge for WiFi otherwise everyone would be on it slowing the system to zilch and no one would be enjoying what they went to the Maldives for - peace and paradise. - the people : all staff go the extra mile. Lovely to see relaxed staff having a laugh with both management and guests. Felt like there was real staff teamwork. Waiting & bar, staff frequently liked to joke and have fun, which was refreshing and de - stressing, as laughter does. Reception, shop and spa staff were efficient and approachable, Boat crews helpful, kind and fun. The local people on the inhabited island were welcoming. The guests were mixed nationality ( appeared mainly German but many other nationalities beyond Europe). Lots of opportunities to meet new friends . Wide range of ages of visitor, solo travellers, couples and families. - other inhabitants: friendly, polite cats. We encouraged feline visitors to our verandah but they will keep away if you prefer. We weren’t aware of any cats on the beach or in the dining room. A wee mouse at the main bar - that would scurry about of an evening, searching for pop corn - very cute. The usual lizards, fruit bats, crabs etc. There was a hatch of large flying ants one evening that filled our bathroom after a storm - arrgh! They left as quick as they arrived and we asked reception to do a room check and ‘clean up’ when we went for dinner, just in case, phew! Mosquitos - I am always mosquito fodder and there were plenty on Filitheyo, despite the evening spraying, However, thanks to ‘jungle formula’ used morning, noon and night and a plug in mosquito tablet, my first holiday with NO bites :) ( my husband got loads but he didn’t use the spray ) - Food: we were all inclusive but I would have been equally happy full or half board. Loads of choice and variety - you can stick to what you know or be more adventurous ( which I prefer). I don’t normally bother with desserts but they were delicious, again with good variety of type and your choice of portion size. We didn’t bother with afternoon tea at the sunset bar, choosing to take a slice of plain cake from breakfast back to our mini bar, to have with a coffee on our loungers late afternoon. AI cocktails were nice but only 4 or 5 to choose from - not a problem though, you make up your own or just pay for something different. Bar prices seemed reasonable e.g 4 or 5 dollars for a spirit, 31 dollars for a bottle of wine and cocktails a bit cheaper than home, especially at happy hour. A large bottle of water pp each day in the room is provided and is sufficient. We filled our own bottles from them and kept them in the mini bar which was refreshingly cold and had an ice compartment ( bring your own cube bags if you want ice in the room - we didn’t bother but just a tip) - sand. Yes it is thin in places on the paths, as other reviews say, because staff have heavy case trolleys to push and use bicycles to get around. We were fine and went barefoot for the whole 11 nights regardless. The bars and restaurants are sand floored which we prefer. - spa: I had one massage and it was very pleasant. - trips: definitely recommend the night fishing. Good fun. We had to turn back the first time as hit a storm but it was rescheduled. Local island visit is well worth it and we stopped at a sandbank for a snorkel on the way back - the reef wasn’t so exciting but did see a large eagle ray up close. Whale shark trip is quite a long way to go on a 50% chance of spotting one. We were unlucky but stopping to watch dolphins and swimming at a beautiful coral reef by a desert island made it all worthwhile. My husband also thoroughly recommends the fish trawling trip too. - Weather: we went March/April. 2023 had no rain but this time 2024, rained first 5 days. Have been in July and has been similar - sometimes a few days rain, sometimes not. Don’t worry, it is warm rain and doesn’t stop you snorkelling plus there are plenty of sunny interludes. It was fun walking barefoot through warm puddles too. Temp constant 28-32 degrees. Ocean lovely and warm too. There was a bit of a currant at times ( not referring to stormy times) but nothing we’ve not experienced at some other islands, it was never too strong. - Cleanliness: all good. Towels etc replaced as often as you request. Rooms cleaned once or twice a day - your choice. Grounds and sand constantly being swept but nature drops leaves and branches quicker than they can all be swept up, especially when rainy. There were a few flies, understandably, and most foods were covered in the restaurant - perhaps a few extra covers around the breads, cakes and mixed fruit would help. - decor: I really liked the simple style of the bedroom with the wood, white linen and mosquito nets. The bathroom was fine and all I noted needing upgrading, was the grouting of the wall tiles in the toilet area but there is always maintenance going on somewhere so no doubt it is on a list. Rooms are allocated their own sun loungers which is good and not always the case elsewhere. - land & sea: this was my 7th island and probably the most lush and thick with palm trees and other wide leaved tropical plants. A lot of flowers were opening up once the rains passed and you could smell their fragrances in the air. The ocean varied in colour - mainly aqua, and shifted from crystal clear to cloudy throughout the day depending on currants and plankton. The reef being so close meant a lot of coral and rock but plenty of entry points and sandy swim spots. Watched dolphins frolic from the shoreline. -ve’s: none really. Had a lovely 11 nights. Didn’t dive as had recently had a chest infection so thought better not to. Didn’t use swimming pool at all. Didn’t play pool, ping pong darts or use the gym so can’t comment on these. Seaplane adds cost and transfer time which is a point of consideration, compared to some islands closer to Male but nice to be away from other tourist islands. Thank you to all the staff at Filitheyo for a most relaxing holiday.

Yes our water villas were a little tired but they were clean and had everything we needed and within the first day we wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. We requested a mattress topper and it was there by bedtime. Our butler couldn't do enough for us. All the staff were the same...brilliant. This island is unspoilt paradise. Snorkeling amazing! Food very good something for everyone. Watch out for the fruit bat which flies around. On our second night turtles hatched on the beach. I know why so many people go back there. Just be aware though that there is no evening entertainment so take cards and games.

This was our second visit to Filitheyo, the first being our honeymoon 23 years ago, and our sixth visit to the Maldives. The positives - the food is very good and varied. The staff are excellent - very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean as are the beaches and pathways. The reef is excellent but be aware of the current if you are not a confident snorkeler. We went on the complimentary night fishing trip. This was excellent with plenty of fish being caught by everyone. To our surprise, my husband and I both caught sharks!! They were about 8ft long - of course they were released. You can choose to have the fish oooked the following day for lunch or dinner. There are some negatives - the decor of the rooms is very tired and hasn't changed in the 23 years since we last visited. The wi-fi is not included and costs the equivalent of £90 per week. My advice is to buy a SIM card on arrival at the airport which costs 40 USD for a month. We were there for three weeks so it worked out MUCH cheaper!! The TV in our room was extremely small and the connectivity was abysmal. We had somebody to look at it six times and gave up in the end. To work the TV was very complicated and required two remotes. When I said that there should be some instructions as I had never come across such a difficult TV to work anywhere before (and we travel quite extensively), their IT guy said they hadn't got around to writing up the instructions as it was a new system. Luckily, we read more than watch television when in our room and, let's face it, you don't want to spend much time in your room when in such a beautiful location. The walls between the rooms are extremely thin and you could hear every word of conversations next door. We were woken at 4.00 a.m. when next door were packing to leave and then, once they had gone, at 6.00 a.m. the cleaner started banging around very loudly. The same day, new people arrived and were obviously unaware of the thinness of the walls and returned to their room at 11.00 p.m. and proceeded to talk quite loudly for another 40 minutes - I gave up and banged on the wall. The hotel should notify guests of the thinness of the walls and ask them to be considerate to their neighbours. If you are prone to mosquito bites, be aware that they are quite prolific and, despite covering myself in very strong insect repellent night and day, I was constantly bitten. They do spray the pathways early evening but I was being bitten badly when sitting on the beach so, maybe, the staff should spray the vegetation on the beach as well. It gets very hot in the restaurant during the day (it's open sided) and there are very few fans. Maybe the hotel should install more fans when they next refurbish. Having raised a few negatives, overall we had a good time and, if the hotel take steps to overcome these, Filitheyo could be fantastic.

13th time to the Maldives and as usual went all-inclusive. 1st time to Filitheyo. We came particularly to this island because of the diving reviews we had read. My wife and I were accompanied by our son and daughter -in-law . We all rated this island very highly (Ive reviewed the excellent diving elsewhere). We had villa 122 - it was more than enough for our needs and the big bed was very comfortable. Rooms are a little worn but everything worked, so no issues. Being located at the top right hand side of the island it was very quiet as not many people walked past. This was an unexpected bonus for us. The view from the villa was delightful and swimming in the sea was easy when the tide was in but you needed to walk a few mins to the left to swim in deeper water when the tide was out. Snorkelling over the reef drop off was easy via the marked access points from the beach. We never bothered with the swimming pool - the sea was 29C The island is quite lush and the shaded 10 min walk to the bar and restaurant was very welcome. In the evening the few mozzies that were around did bite unless you apply some protective lotion - we came prepared - what do you expect in the tropics. Food was lovely - not a chip or burger in sight. Very varied with lots of choice. Mostly fish based and lots of delicious curry but always some veggie, beef, lamb or chicken dishes. A lot of food was cooked while you waited. There were sashimi/sushi and pasta stations too. Plenty of fresh salads, fresh fruit and breads inc naans. The home-made ice cream and sorbets finished of the meals nicely. However if want steak and chips or roast Sunday lunch then better go elsewhere. The bar was relaxing - they kept the music volume down. There was a good range of inclusive cocktails and they were generous with the pouring. You were not allowed to take glasses back to your villa (in case they got broken and injured bare footed guests) but I found they were quite happy to fill up your half emptied can of tonic with gin. The beer is the typical larger-like fizz. All the staff were very pleasant, attentive and helpful. There was no entertainment or live music which suited us perfectly. There is not a lot to do except sunbathe, relax, eat & drink, swim, snorkel or dive. You can hive wind surfers but I never saw them used. They have a gym and a spa - the latter used by our two ladies. The island has hermit crabs everywhere. We saw fruit bats, lizards and a few interesting birds. All in all we had a really great holiday and would love to go again.

Perfect Maldives experience. Amazing house reef which is teaming with sea life, pristine sea and powder white beach. Very good all inclusive package, including a swim up bar, varied and high quality buffet options. Spotlessly clean rooms with outdoor bathroom and a seated terrace. Staff are friendly and very efficient. Special mentions for Hossain, Ram, Rubel, Furyk and Mozzafel. All excellent.

The Filitheyo Island resort was great. Excellent house reef. Food varied and plentiful. In short, thoroughly recommended. The only quibble would be the charge for WiFi which at US$123.20 for the week seemed excessive, especially since its was rather limited and required repeated entry of pass codes. HOWEVER, be aware: the online information regarding entry into the Maldives is not easy to locate online and can be unclear. Our biggest gripe is that our booking company – DESTINATION 2 – never mentioned this, and then ignored our requests for assistance when we contacted them for help. Admittedly, Destination 2 does state in the small print that the traveller is responsible for ensuring compliance with any visa requirements but it was never hinted in conversations with their representative – Gemma Bennett – that we needed to take action prior to departure. We did carry out Google searches to check if there were any special requirements but what we read suggested that an tourist visa would be granted on entry. These searches did not take us to the official Maldives Immigration website. When, after the event, we did locate the official website it said: "... a tourist does not require pre-approval for the visa". It also states: "Traveller Declaration must be filled in and submitted by all travelers travelling to and from Maldives, within 96 hours to the flight time. The form has to be submitted electronically via IMUGA. " We had in fact come across mention of “a form to be completed within 96 hours” but we had taken this to mean within 96 hours FOLLOWING arrival. Even the official language (as above) is ambiguous in this regard. So when we presented our passports to the immigration officer, we were told this declaration should have been completed online IN ADVANCE, and that we required an approval QR code confirming. Most other arriving passenger seemed to have been informed of this, presumably by their tour operator, and had the necessary approval. We, however, were sent off to complete a lengthy and detailed form on our smart phones. Besides an extensive list of personal information, this required uploading a passport-type photo and a photo of our passports. The approval resulted in a QR code which we saved as a screen shot. I have to say that after our 20+ hour journey from UK this whole exercise proved stressful and complex. Finally, however, our passports were stamped, but we were advised that we would need to complete a similar online departure declaration and provide a new QR code prior to departure. Being equally uncertain of the procedure for completing the exit declaration, we emailed Gemma Bennett at Destination 2 and asked for guidance. After receiving no reply (other than an auto-reply), the request was forwarded in turn to 3 other customer service links at Destination 2. No reply was received. Much later, we did receive a response which basically said - 'It’s not our problem'! Whether or not this is strictly Destination 2’s responsibility, one would expect they would have the knowledge to advise without any great effort. In any event, I would not use this company again. Fortunately, the resort hotel was able to provide the necessary link to the Maldives Immigration website and we were able to fill in the departure form without problem.

Great resort at a reasonable price for a vacation with the family in the Maldives. They took such great care of our 1 year-old and even served her free „drinks“ at the pool bar when she wanted to order herself. Amazing staff! Be aware you will connect through Malé airport by seaplane which is definitely an experience!

FILITHEYO Review. Short version. This was our tenth visit to the Maldives and sixth different island. Initially I was unsure what to make of the resort but as the days went by I became more at home with it and ended up liking the place. Not quite as high a standard as Villamendho or Hirihi but cheaper than those islands. The mosquito bites took the edge of things but everything else was very good. Pathways were clean as was the beach. The reef did have strong currents on some days but is full of fish and lots of hard and soft corals. Shark, turtle and eagle ray were regularly seen. We stayed in a Superior Room which was plenty big enough, very clean and situated just off the beach. The food was as good as we have had anywhere in the Maldives, excellent. The Sunset bar is staffed with hard working and cheerful people and is a good place to hang out with the sun setting. The guests were mostly German with the odd Europeans and a few English couples. Wi-Fi provided by the hotel is very expensive and you are better getting a SIM card at the airport. Would I go again? Yes, I would but there are undoubtedly other islands just as good that we need to explore. Detailed version. This resort is cheaper than some others and that is reflected in the standard. Having said that don’t let that put you off. It is a clean island with refurbishment continually taking place, not that you’d notice immediately. The island – Paths are swept daily and some are a little thin on sand whereas others have plenty. There is plenty of shade along the paths. Flip flops would be a good idea. We did see people in barefoot and others in flip flops. The restaurant is a no shoes area. Mosquitoes were active even though they sprayed each day. The Reef – Only about a third of the island is suitable for snorkelling. The other two thirds consist of strong currents, rocks/coral and you are advised not to snorkel in those areas. The current is the strongest we have encountered in the Maldives, so you just need to be careful and keep an eye in which direction it is flowing. We encountered large numbers of fish on the reef which included Reef Shark, Eagle Rays, Turtles, Moray eel and numerous other fish. There are a large number of hard corals and a few soft ones which all look healthy. We don’t dive so I can’t help you with that, only to say there is a Dive Centre on the island. Room – We stayed in a Superior room which had an outdoor shower, toilet and double basin set up. This area was looking a little tired and needed a refurbishment to compete with the other resorts. We had a very large firm bed which was very comfortable and came with 4 pillows and mosquito net. Each room has a free digital safe. The housekeeper (Lateef) did an excellent job and kept everything very clean. The room is equipped with a kettle, tea and coffee but no milk. There is also a small fridge in the wardrobe!! Miscellaneous – There is no evening entertainment. On some nights a waiter takes fish scraps and feeds the waiting Nurse Sharks. You can even join in. There is still water provided each day to your room. There is no sparkling water though. The resort uses the UK three pin sockets, so no need for extra plugs. There is a small shop on the island but don’t rely on getting what you need from there. It does sell postcards and stamps. To hire a snorkel was $1 per day. Wi-Fi costs $250 for two weeks!! Food – This was excellent and as good as any we have had in the Maldives. If you cannot find something to eat and enjoy then it’s you and not them! Buffett style meals with plenty of choice and different ice-cream each meal. Tuna station, Pasta station, dessert section, salads, curries and more. Trips – There are some trips on offer, mainly fishing trips. We did the Snorkel Safari which takes you to three different reefs. It cost $42 each, but we didn’t see anything different.
