#1 of 4 Specialty lodging in Vancouver Island
Walters Cove Resort is a luxurious fishing lodge, owned by the Kyuquot Checklesaht First Nations. Located on the NW side of Vancouver Island in Kyuquot Sound, we provide a first class, all-inclusive fishing experience for salmon, halibut and bottom fish. Grady White boats, and both Abel and Avet reels are an example of the top of the line equipment we provide. Our small, intimate lodge hold a maximum capacity of only 18 guests which allows us to provide exceptional customer service and cultural experiences such as our signature Beach BBQ. Not to mention the most consistent fishing on the West Coast! Our specialty is creating memories that will last you a lifetime!

I was on an annual fishing trip with friends; but it was my first trip to WCR. I think that attention to detail, terrific staff, friendly and attentive hospitality and the quality of fishing set this resort apart from many. Our guide was excellent; hard-working, experienced, diligent, and positive. Fishing and foul weather gear were of high quality. Food was great! Well-thought services/procedures, fish processing/freezing, a gear-drying room with personal lockers, comfortable lodge with a lounge/bar and an additional outside deck, first nations art throughout and interesting nearby places to wander all added to the quality of a visit. Staff offered assistance at every opportunity, and remained positive throughout our stay. Our west coast visit included the sight of a local coastal freighter's visit to Kyuquot, an iconic coastal village and people, plus much wildlife including black bears (one was distinctly two-toned), eagles, deer, sunfish, whales, seals, sea otters, albatrosses, and sea lions. Come prepared for a variety of weather including wind and rain at times, as well as exposure to sun. We drove in. Automobiles need not fear the journey. The road from Woss to Fair Harbour is a gravel resource road, but it is in good condition. Oh…and the fishing? Enjoyed it all!

I have been fishing all over the world and I would have to say my best days fishing anywhere was at Walters Cove! Salmon, halibut, log cod and rock cod are all in abundance. Our guide Matthew knows his stuff! On top of the great fishing we enjoyed first class food and service. The scenery is beautiful. We saw killer whales, humpbacks, sea lions and otters. I would recommend this place to anyone and will be returning for years to come.

I went to Walters Cove with a group of 14 for a fishing trip. Many in the group have been going on trips all along the Canadian and Alaskan West coast for years, but this was my very first trip. I was blown away, the trip exceeded all my expectations. The sleeping accommodations were cozy (a little tight) but comfortable, but this is not a sleeping lodge, it's a fishing lodge. The common area and dining area of the lodge were very nice. The food was good. Breakfast was ample, lunches were OK, dinners were excellent! There were also plenty of snacks available around the clock. You will not go hungry on this trip. The fishing gear was very high quality, and the boats were superb. The Grady Whites were large boats with large engines, and were very comfortable even when the water was pretty rough. The fishing was action packed. Me and my fishing partner limited out on all fish (kings, coho, ling, halibut, and rock fish), as did most in our group of 14. The guides were experts, they put us on top of the fish and were very helpful in teaching us the tricks of catching them. My guide Shawn was more than excellent, I've dubbed him the "fish whisperer" :-). The fish is prepped for you and ready to fly back home, and everyone in our group of 14 came back with 2 boxes of fish. The salmon BBQ and brief education on the native people's experiences and culture was a great experience as well. This was a bucket list trip for me, but based on this experience it will not be once in a lifetime. I'll definitely go back to Walter's Cove and I'd highly recommend to anyone looking to see beautiful views, learn a few things, and have great fishing. Special thanks to Terry working with our trip organizers, Holly for keeping us comfortable at the lodge, Shawn for being our 'Fish Whisperer', and the entire staff for making the trip so enjoyable.

Our group of 4 (from Vancouver, Toronto and Lyden) met once again at our favourite fishing lodge - Walter's Cove. It is a small lodge filled with tremendous staff that are friendly and more than happy to make your trip as pleasant as possible. We limited out on all species as the guide was intimately knowledgable of the local fishing spots. This is a top service lodge in a beautiful setting amongst a small local community. We are all booked for next year.

My spouse and I just returned from a 5 day trip to Walter's Cove Resort. It was a very favorable fishing trip, cultural experience and interesting visit to a part of the west coast of Vancouver Island that we have not been to before. We limited out on Spring salmon with two caught at 25 lbs. No "tyees" but not complaining about the catch. We did not catch any coho with the action spotty for this species early in the season. Our guide, Willy, was skilled and had a very good temperament for our first guided salmon trip. He was professional and loved hearing about his stories growing up on the reservation. He knows just about everyone working at the lodge through family, school and work. The staff was friendly and accommodating to make your stay positive. Holly was very attentive to our needs. We enjoyed the meals with dinner being the highlight of the day after a long day fishing. Good salads to accompany hearty meals. House wine is complimentary with your meal. A small pet peeve is that you have to buy alcohol for personal consumption. I was used to ordering or bringing my own wine on trips to keep the cost down. Wine at the lodge per bottle is expensive. We chose not to buy any and did not see anyone else purchasing any. It may be regulated to do it this way so we just went with the flow. It was nice that you could walk on a short trail next to the resort to see some of the area, tall trees and small cove a short 5 minute walk from the facility. Terry the general manager is passionate about running a solid operation and keeps in touch with guests to ensure they are having a great experience. Our room, no. 1, is above the dining room and noisy at night when guests are still in the common area talking or playing cards. The first night was hard to go to sleep. Suggest that all guides be Native American locals as part of the Kyuquot experience. It is a key part of the total experience that makes the whole package work. I support the initiative to employ as many of the local tribe members in running this operation. We would like to book a return trip someday and hope the "wind and rough seas" we encountered on a couple of days, mostly afternoon, will be a bit calmer.
