Just returned from my first trip to Walter's Cove Resort. Wonderful experience. Great fishing (almost hit my limit)! Great service from the staff at the lodge and our guide Peter took us to some excellent fishing locations. Could not be happier. I highly suggest a trip to Walter's Cove Resort!
I’ve just returned from my 4th stay at the Walter’s Cove Lodge. Terry (Lodge Manager) and Jacqueline (Assistant Manager) are available by phone to help with bookings and special requests. The stay includes room and board, seaplane transport to and from Vancouver, B.C., guided fishing boats, and cleaning/flash freezing/boxing your catch. If you desire canning, smoking or other processing they work with a local entity to provide these services at additional cost. The lodge is a rustic log and timber lodge that houses about 20 guests. The facilities are clean and well maintained. A large porch/deck in front makes for an excellent place to unwind with a great view of the Kyuquot First Nation village and the surrounding bay. A hot tub and outdoor pool table complete the porch/deck area. The staff provide a high level of service. The food is prepared fresh daily and includes a hot breakfast each morning with several options which starts at 5:30 am to allow you to get off of the dock by 6:00 am if desired. Sandwiches, pastries, drinks (hot/cold) and apples/oranges are available along with dry storage boxes to allow you to pack lunch/snacks for use while on the boat during the day. Dinner is prepared at the onsite kitchen and is always something that is as good or better than what may be expected in a top line restaurant in Vancouver or Seattle. An open fire traditional Kyuquot salmon BBQ is prepared by the Chief’s Wife (Grandma Daisy). While snacking on the salmon she provides fascinating information about some of the history of the area and Kyuquot tribe. The lodge stocks a small supply of gloves, hats, coats, sunscreen … if you happen to forget something. An additional service started this year. An onsite licensed Masseuse provides 30- and 60-minute messages for those days that fishing took a little more out of you than planned. As to the fishing, the lodge makes use of Fiberglass hulled Grady Whites with all of the tackle, lures, live bait needed for the day. Two guests and the guide are assigned to a boat. As a result, most guests arrive with a friend/spouse/significant other. The onboard guide skippers the boat and provides whatever level of support needed. The guides have a great knowledge of the area and the best locations to meet your needs for the days fishing whether it be salmon, ling cod, halibut, or rock fish. At the return to the dock all of the fish is logged, cleaned, vacuum packed and frozen. At the end of the trip the 100 or so lbs. of processed fish is packed in fish boxes which are flown out with you on the seaplane or transported by refrigerated truck to meet you at the seaplane terminal in Vancouver. The rooms are clean and house two twin beds, places to hang clothes and a bathroom/shower. When the lodge is full each room houses 2 guests. Still one of the best trips I make each year. I’ve already booked for next year.…
Just come back from our annual trip to Walters. The fishing, as usual was great - even for us late raisers (Terry, the manager called us bankers :), as still limited out. We went out one day at 8am - our usual start time - and was back at the dock by 1:30pm as we had already limited out for the day. The guides are friendly and really knowledgeable as most of them live in the area and have been fishing there all their lives. The entire crew is super friendly and attentive. It's really nice and relaxing to sit on the deck on a sunny afternoon with a beverage and looking out over the dock, the cove and the community across the cove. our group is already booked for next year!!!
Once again heading home with full limits of King Salmon, Halibut, Ling Cod and Rock Fish after another great visit to Walters Cove Resort. I have been a return customer for years. The lodge and staff are absolutely great. The food is first class and rates 5 stars. We are always spoiled by the attention of the staff, and the guides know where to find the fish in all conditions. If you are looking for a quality and very personable experience in the wilds of Vancouver Island, look no further than Walters Cove Resort. It is an exceptional resort.
We are really glad that we discovered Walters Cove Resort. Everything was great―especially the fishing. The boats were well-maintained with skilled guides willing to fish for different species. Accommodations are clean and comfortable and lodge staff is first rate. We were lucky to have great weather while we were there but the days when it started to blow in the afternoon, there were close-in fishing spots out of the weather. The fish averaged a little smaller that some other spots we’ve fished along the west side of Vancouver Island but they were plentiful. My wife and I came home with 134 pounds of fillets―salmon, halibut, rockfish, and lingcod. The only negative is that we each gained 3 pounds; too much good food. We are booked for next year!
