It was a very pricey stay for what they offer, as a lot of five star hotels offer better with less price, the wifi was down and a lot of activities was not available unless telling them in advance which we have no idea. So many mosquitos (or even worse creatures) and the repellent they gave weren't effective and if you scratch them you will have them healed after months. I got them even under my blanket at night. On the other hand, it is a little hidden gem in Indonesia, beach is very clean and private, for service i's say its perfect, the people are nice, and very helpful, the most friendly ever (to the receptionist guy who helped me search for a gopro charger because i forgot them, you're amazing!). Food is very good, pricey but worth it, but again, its best to stay max 2 days as there is more places to see in Belitung rather than this side. One last thing to mention is that the resort promotes itself as the first ecological resort in Indonesia (i guess), but I am not sure on their aspects of using less energy, sustainability as a thing on trend or as a real purpose on impact because if you walk a bit further to both sides of the private beach, the plastic, metal, etc rubbish is terrifying, including the use of plastic on packagings of our souvenirs. I mainly got attracted thinking they are very sustainable and concerned about the nature, now wondering if its for the sake of business or for the sake of true nature itself. Maybe someone could answer to this? Overall, beautiful, pricey, one of a kind, but I would think twice in returning, maybe after healing from the millions of insect (adas) bites! Thank you!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking your time to write us a review of Arumdalu experience, your review means a lot to us in order for us to serve you better. In regards of this incident, we apologize to know that we were unable to exceed your expectations. Regarding the beach, we are not denying that at some season we got so much rubbish from the ocean. We can't take care of all the areas but cleaning the beach is our every morning routine and we try to maintain the other side too. Also thank you for reminding us about plastic packaging for the souvenirs, we'll try to find a way to change it soon. Another thing, about the mosquitos (agas), we'll try to find other repellants for our guests next time. we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in order to show you a different experience of Arumdalu. Warm regards, Arumdalu Team

We have been staying with a friends family who is a local in Belitung. We drove motorbikes down to check out this areas beaches and decided to have a look at this resort for a later date. We were quoted IDR 25.000 for lunch per head and for one night for a couple IDR 7.250.000 . That's about $25 per head and $725 per night AUD. When we told the rest of the Indonesian family , some who work down that way , they were laughing and saying that's just a Bule ( white man ) price as they know Asians can get it cheaper. In addition we rode around the area and the beaches around there are very rough and strewn with rubbish. The resort is very overgrown with vegetation and I would imagine not a very nice beach. We have stayed in North Bali in a beautiful resort with private pool and much nicer grounds on a much calmer beach for AUD $80 per night with access to lovely cafes and restaurants. I guess it's worth a try to overcharge people assuming if they are Western they have money to burn. Regardless , it didn't really have a nice feel and we stayed for much cheaper in Tanjung Tinggi which has a much safer beach.

Hi Taj81, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of Arumdalu Private Resort. We are sorry that you got the wrong information from your Indonesian friend. We don't discriminate prices for Western, Asian, even to Indonesian guests. Some of our guests got a special price with their KITAS, as we have a special promo for the KITAS holder. Regarding the beach, we are not denying that on high tide season we got so much rubbish from the ocean, but cleaning the beach is our every morning routine. Hopefully one day you could visit our resort and get a pleasant stay here with us. Thank you and have a good day. Warmest regards, Arumdalu Team

Some good and some not so good about this place. The good bits: Picturesque setting on a nice beach which they keep clean. Decent enough villas with private pools. Nice and small and secluded. Staff are kind and are trying their best to please. The not so good bits: Expensive for what it is. It simply is not a Banyan Tree or Alila in terms of quality but it's charging their prices. Staff don't seem that well trained. Food is only average. Allowing armies of Chinese tour groups in for lunch to invade the place (laughing, taking selfies everywhere, smoking etc) is a real turn off. I applaud the effort being made to do something for the people in the vicinity and the idea behind an eco type experience but it has along way to go before it can match other similar type properties in the region.

This hotel is frankly not a luxury resort. While the architectural design is nice and the rooms are spacious, they do not merit $400 USD a night. Neither does the beach, which is AVERAGE at best for Indonesia (clean in front of the hotel, but basically impassable a bit beyond due to all of the plastic waste, and cut off entirely about 1KM down by an industrial shipping pier). The water is rough and murky, not great for swimming or snorkeling. The bluff windmill is nonetheless quite beautiful. In my room, there were many mice and all sorts of large spiders (understandable for an eco-resort), BUT no mosquito net is provided whatsoever. How on earth can you not provide a mosquito net in a malarial region??? I was covered in bug bites after two days. The air conditioner is also quite weak, and I woke up numerous times drenched in sweat. More of a jungle lodge than a luxury eco-resort. There is wifi provided, however it does not work most of the day (I get it, the place is remote) and requires constant re-logging on with a password/username. Only one device can be connected at a time, which makes little sense in the mobile internet age. The pool in front of the room was quite nice and well-maintained. The restaurant's food was pretty decent (nothing to write home about), though an appetizer, main course, and drink set me back about $40 USD - again, ridiculously overpriced for what was being offered. It takes about 2 hours to drive to the resort from the main city in Belitung. The staff (including the driver) were all very courteous, though clearly there is a major disconnect between what is actually provided and what is advertised. At close to $400 USD per night (expensive by any standard, let alone Indonesia), I was expecting a luxury eco resort on par with the BEST offered in Bali etc. I feel bad writing this review as I know the area benefits economically from the hotel, but it really needs to improve and is LUDICROUSLY overpriced for the experience. I would not recommend Belitung to begin with for anyone coming from more than 1 hour away or Jakarta (boring compared to other islands, beaches/ocean not as good as Bali/Lombok), but I definitely cannot recommend this place.

A stunning location amongst a white-sand beach, smooth-rock headlands and jungle, sensitively located and built to preserve the natural surroundings. The only negatives are the price and the long (but nonetheless interesting) drive from the airport. But if you are looking for a beautiful, out-of-the way location without sacrificing luxury, this is the place
