This hotel is situated at a historical site in Norway, Stiklestad, where the battle of Stiklestad is believed to have taken place in 1030, eventually leading to Norway becoming a Christian country. As for now, it is a tiny place, mostly surrounded by farms, and 4-5 kilometers east of the smalltown of Verdal. You arrive most conveniently by car, as did I. I have stayed here before, but it's been a while. This time, I hardly didn't do much more than sleeping and having breakfast here, besides staying for a while in the lobby area after checking out. Judged by my room, it is excellent: Besides a kingsize bed, I had a couch, a chair and a spacious bathroom. Excellent! The breakfast was also very, very good, and there are huge seating areas inside the lobby to relax with a coffee or drinks and snacks bought at the reception. There aren't many alternatives to this hotel, but I doubt it will let you down.

The minus It was a little hot in the room when I arrived. Slow check-in. Black spots on the mirror in the bathroom. The plus is the good breakfast. The Hotel is huge due to some culture center, but very quiet. Very large room but also well furnished. Nice and clean. Good bed. Great location. Free Parking.

The above hotel listing is no longer correct as now it is the Scandic Stiklestad Hotel. Whatever the name issues, it is a very good property. You are scant minutes from the battle site of Stiklestad, where Norwegian king Olaf lost his life in the advancement of Christianity so top marks for location. Staff were pleasant throughout the hotel. The architecture is different with grey concrete walls common. The basic look perhaps is more in line with the basic existence of Vikings from bygone days. My room overlooked the St Olaf monument and large, floral coat of arms. The restaurant was very good. We wound up having dinner, breakfast and lunch here, all the meals fine to great. There is no better choice if you want to delve into this important part of Norwegian history.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in Stiklestad for a single night recently as part of a larger tour group. The hotel has obviously changed operators fairly recently, as it does not seem to be listed under Trip Advisor as a Scandic Hotel. The hotel is actually located as part of the Stiklestad Cultural Centre on the outskirts of Stiklestad. Unfortunately one downside, with a large party who had been travelling for some 14 hours from the north of Norway, there was no assistance available with baggage as there was only one member of staff on duty in the late evening. But on the very positive side, there was a lift to get to the first floor with all the baggage. We had a very nice room, with plenty of space, a couple of chairs and a settee and coffee table, as well as a desk. The bathroom was very clean, with large towels, plenty of hot water and a walk-in shower. Unfortunately there were no tea and coffee making facilities in our room. In spite of a very late arrival, we enjoyed a good buffet dinner, with cauliflower soup or salad available as a starter, halibut or pork as a main course and several light desserts. Coffee and tea was also available. Breakfast was also a great meal. There was tea, coffee, fruit juices, yoghurts and just about everything else. There was a continental selection, with different kinds of fresh fruit, cheese, cold meats, different sorts of bread and rolls, pastries and cakes. There were also hard-boiled eggs, cheese and ham, as well as cereals. It was a very comfortable stay and we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, short as it was.

We loved this hotel, which is in the Nature Cultural Museum at Stiklestad. Large, clean, quiet rooms and really comfortable beds. Fantastic breakfast included. We stayed one night while driving north from Trondheim on the E6. Highly recommend!
