Dear Mrs and Mr Ivanov, As you can imagine, we are not happy about the fact that one of our clients has not enjoyed his stay in our hotel, even more if this is to be ascribed to the breakfast. We have always aimed, in this 10 years and more of business, to make breakfast one of our strong points, taking care with selecting fresh and wholesome products, offering homemade cakes and backery goods every day, all year round, to better satisfy our hosts’ tastes and whishes. This has brought us, in time, to reaching a 9,8/10 rating, so we deluded ourselves we almost made it. We have experienced, along with everyone else in this business, dissenting voices, and we have always tried to intepret them as an incentive to meet the highest demands, but your note brings us towards other kinds of considerations. Truth is, it’s very difficult to satisfy a so varied kind of public: each one has his/her own particular habits, from both family and culture, that is loath to set aside when going on holiday, forgetting that travelling for pleasure i salso about adventure and novelty. Not mentioning the fact that, if we had to follow this line of thought, we would be compelled to offer everything ranging from Sachertorte to Dorayaki, from Tostada to fried grasshoppers… This said, we would also like to point out that there are different ways of advancing requests (or a string of them). What you described as a kind request, has brought our maid to tears over her treatment: she, that no one among her acquaintances, would describe as being prone to tears. Regarding the unpleasant treatment you feel you have been subjected to, we would like to point out a few things: when facing your contempt and irritation, we offered you to leave the hotel, if that was what you desired, without having to pay anything, since you felt the service offered to be so bad. So, to be clear, since yours was a pre-paid solution, we offered you a total refound! We don’t think such helpfulness to be easily found… Nobody pushed you out of the door, we just offered you the opportunity to find something more suited to your needs, so that you could enjoy your holiday to the fullest. We wonder what made you decide to prolong your suffering, since you would have had no difficulty at all in finding rooms in one of the 200+ hotels in Val di Fassa? (it was, after all, low season). Last but not least, as travel agents you should have all the necessary skills to make a thoughtful selection, when it comes to choosing an accomodation: one that meets your particular requirements. Why, the, did your choice went to an hotel with a buffet breakfast, instead of an à la carte one, since that was what you wanted in the first place?
