I have only been home for one week and I am so missing this beautiful resort, it really is one of true elegance and style. It was my fifth visit to the Danai and as the heavy electronic gates close behind you and your transfer car pulls into the sweeping drive I immediately felt like I was home, surrounded by the most stunning landscaping of glistening trees and twinkling lights, it was time to relax. The incredible attention to detail by Kimon and his team is second to none, his staff are absolutely the best, utterly professional whilst warm and friendly, I remember on my first trip here the staff stood out as one of the main reasons I wanted to return, they can not do enough for you and always with a smile. The Suites and Villas are all so individually wonderful, full of quirky art and tasteful furniture, comfortable bedding, lush dressing gowns and luxurious toiletries. The cuisine in all the restaurants is out of this world, starting the day with the most scrumptious breakfast - without a doubt the best view I have ever experienced whilst sipping my morning cappuccino! Lunch and dinner choices are outstanding, the standard is incredibly high and I couldn’t fault any of our meals. On our Anniversary night we ate in the intimate Squirrel restaurant which once again exceeded our expectations, the wine expertise from the team headed by the incredibly knowledgeable and charming Apostolos, together with the quality of food this restaurant is certainly deserving of a Michelin star… it’s only a matter of time! The bar is fantastic… a wonderful team led by the legendary George, such a great, warm character who always makes our evenings fun and interesting offering his guests the most incredible selection of cocktails and spirits. A terrific place to either meet new people or to sit privately and enjoy a quiet drink. The Danai’s beach is manicured beautifully with a choice of comfortable sunbeds and parasols, there are also very stylish Cabanas if you wish to be more private. The fabulous beach staff are on hand to serve you throughout the day, equally the pool area is another wonderful area to relax in. I definitely recommend a visit to the fabulous Spa, I ended my holiday with my favourite lady, a full body massage in the experienced hands of the lovely Marina, not only does she give you the most blissful massage she also has such incredible knowledge regarding muscular and other health issues. There are so many other wonderful aspects I could write about, it truly is a haven for relaxation and escaping our busy lives. Thank you so much Kimon, you have the best team! We will be back x

We stayed in a garden view pool room in August. Upon arrival we was given a drink and a nice tour of the hotel by the receptionist before being shown to our room, B9. The room itself was really nice. A nice view of the sea and pretty much as described on the website. These rooms are in the middle of a terrace so you do run the risk of noisey or smoking neighbours but fortunately we didn’t have this. The only other thing is the sun beds on the patio don’t get much sun so you have to complete a precarious move of the beds to the grass if you want to sit in the sun. Unfortunately as we went to take a shower after our flight we found that the cold water was not working in the room. Maintenance was sent out straight away and they managed to solve the problem within 30 mins. The TV doesn’t get all the channels but this didn’t bother us. Free water comes with night service but that is all. Food- whilst the food you get is nearly always of very good quality, we did have some issues. (We don’t eat fish which seemed to be a big part of the menus so if you like fish Im sure the experience will be different) Breakfast- Day 1 breakfast- The tables at breakfast with the best views are out on the terrace. We was shown to a beautiful table, but unfortunately there is a high number of wasps. We were being bothered by them non stop. Eventually they offered to give us burning coffee to get rid of them but this never came. Also I don’t get why they don’t have this there as you sit down really. As the food came it got swarmed by wasps. We just got up and took the food inside and continued to eat breakfast there for the rest of the holiday. My partner is GF and getting bread for her was a bit hit and miss. We also had one incident where the hotel dog came in, was initially begging for food and then emptied its bowels on the floor in the restaurant! Lunch and dinner. Lunch Restaurant. Didn’t expect it to be cheap but the food and drinks were pricey. Lunch and dinner at the lower restaurant was the same menu and as we are quite fussy eaters, it became a bit tedious. The beach menu offered more basic meals and a bit of a change. A main annoyance was that water at the hotel was €6 for a bottle, when the temperature was 37C on our stay. Always think water should be free at hotel, where you have paid over €1,000 euros a night for the room. Wine is extremely expensive as well so we didn’t bother. We would ask for meals without certain items in, but on numerous occasions still came with the items in. e.g. no ham in the Caesar’s salad, for it to come with ham. Then a few days later bacon in the cheeseburger. Neither of which have them on the menu. One other instance we both had GF spag Bol for lunch one day. The next day my partner ordered the same and we was told they don’t offer this at lunch… having had it the day before! We also found if you didn’t ask you didn’t get. We sat a few times down on the lowest bit of the restaurant to start with, but found that you tend to get ignored. Especially after you have eaten. Throughout we found they had quite large number of staff but with drinks once you finished one, there was only really one member of staff who would offer you another. They looked to be good at topping up wine and water but not replenishing drinks ordered from the bar. Staff were friendly, but it did feel like hard work to get what you ordered, get drinks and then get noticed if you wasn’t in immediate view. The upper restaurant is the fine dining restaurant. We LOVED the Italian night they put on. The food was outstanding. The standard menu wasn’t hugely to our taste but was good. 2 times the service was great. Our first visit we was sat under the tree and the seats when we arrived were covered in bird muck. They can’t stop them but should clean it with the amount of staff around. We also wasn’t attended to very well in this seat. Pool/Beach/Gym- The pool was not busy and was a nice area. We found it very odd that there wasn’t really any service here. We would arrive after breakfast make the beds, move them if required and put up umbrellas if required. Not a hardship but some people expect this to be done for you when on holiday. The worst thing was that it was extremely hot and there was no offering of a bar menu or drinks at any point. There is a little bar thing that is sometimes staffed by one person. Not always there then you would have to walk over and ask if you could have a drink. No interest in asking if you need anything. He would then go down to the beach bar to get you your €6 water. We don’t particularly like the beach, but did venture down to see what it was like. Personally thought it wasn’t the nicest beach I’ve ever been on. Definitely not crystal clear waters or nice smooth sand. We did go out on the kayak which was fun (after the initial one appeared to have a leak and nearly sunk). Don’t expect much help on these though or a life jacket. The service for the sun beds on the beach was sooo much better than the pool. They immediately made up a bed which even included a pillow. A menu was left as well so I assume the service would of been a lot better for drinks etc. We wanted to use the gym and on arrival was told we needed to book slots due to covid. Not a problem, I’m glad they were seeming to take it seriously to keep guests safe. You could book and hour and 10 mins was given between slots so the gym could be cleaned. We booked the same time for 4 days in a row towards the end of the holiday as most times we wanted were already booked. 1st day arrived, the equipment etc was everything we needed and appeared clean. 2nd day arrived at our time and people were still in the gym! We had to ask them to leave and then proceeded to clean the equipment ourselves! So we started our hour late. Then at the end the cleaner actually turns up this time and tells us to leave as she needs to clean it! This happened the next 2 days! We got there 5 mins before though so we could get them out on time. But cleaners often didn’t show or just came in randomly and took towels without cleaning. Out and about- You don’t get anything in the room about possible things to do or a list of what restaurants you have booked in. (If you have booked prior). We had them book some restaurants which I would recommend for a bit of a change. I think they did only recommend 3 restaurants and we found more ourselves on trip advisor. They were all nice and a lot cheaper. We also had a wine at some of these restaurants because they were more reasonably priced. We asked them to book us taxis each night which they did. I think they have a number of luxury taxis (Mercedes) that they use for the guests. They are nice cars and I would expect to pay more. They also are happy to pick you up and return you back and give you a card to call them. Great! However, I didn’t like feeling that we had been ripped off. We visited a restaurant on the first night that was 10 mins away. We was charged €25 euros each way. Expensive yes, but thought this might be the norm for the hotels cars. 2nd night, 10 mins again if not slightly further away. €12 euros each way. No consistency and then it was obvious we had been taken advantage of. Check out- we had a late flight so we asked for a late check out. We got a later check out of our room but still a long time to wait. We was given a room so we could shower. This room was an old massage/ spa room that had a shower but only had a netted curtain, so you couldn’t shower. So not ideal. Overview- for the price we paid we felt like the hotel didn’t match up value wise with the levels of service. We have been fortunate enough to have stayed in four seasons and other high end hotels around the world and the pricing (ok not in Greece eg FS Athens and Amanzoe) does not match up to levels you receive elsewhere. Unfortunately I feel it’s a hotel that looks stunning, but misses the mark.

Response from Danai Resort, Owner at Danai Beach Resort and Villas
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear Reviewer123453, Published TripAdvisor reviews such as yours engage us, yet so do the unpublished for the absence of reviews is also a silent dialogue: when fully booked we serve an average 120-150 people every day, about 11.000.00 this season alone of which few do us the favor to review us positively on TripAdvisor which is a testimonial of a positive experience. For when dissatisfaction is experienced, a review is due for certain as a tool to release frustration which is a phenomena I can relate to as a person. On the ratings of Danai Beach Resort & Villas, your review is the first negative this season, the first low-ranked since 2015. This speaks for our performance except, that despite the low ranking your review is not in the least an expression of frustration but a constructive and detailed report. As the owner, and one who is determined to successfully lead and train, I am grateful for this. Naturally instead of having this dialogue online with the world to witness I would have preferred a personal conversation and I would have relished to utilize my skills on leadership and quality enhancement at that very moment much rather than being forced to test my writing skills composing this response – at least you and me would have profited from this. The destructive effect of even this single low rating (and readers often not taking the time to truly read the texts) is that holiday-makers feel repulsed from trusting their holiday onto me and my team which is I believe underserved even with few lacks stated in your review and perhaps even unintended from your side. Despite criticism your review reflects that you seem to have enjoyed your overall experience relating to staff (with exceptions), food quality and products as well as the Resort itself. I shall put myself with this to action rather than to typing and will challenge myself to surpassing even other properties’ performance immediately in the Pool attendance. Except for the buzzing unwanted visitors and the small Malheur which can regrettably happen in a pet-friendly hotel I relish to intensely working with my staff but forgive me, the wild (or even domestic sometimes) animals are beyond my full control.

If I’ve ever stayed at a better seaside hotel than Danai Beach then I’ve quite forgotten it. This is an Aegean sensation in lovely Sithonia. A brilliant beachside location with well planned spacious rooms and villas tumbling through lovely gardens and past a lovely pool to a collection of quite superb restaurants and a bar with a view to die for. Breakfast on the terrace is an absolute delight. Boating opportunities from the golden sands if you can find the energy to leave your sun bed. Or a day out further afield to say Oranopoli and Mount Athos - still within easy reach. The local town of Nikiti is just 10 minutes away and has a great selection of lively tavernas. We spent eight nights at Danai Beach last week. After all the difficulties of 2020, frankly it was great to go anywhere. But we couldn’t have chosen better; the Danai experience is exceptional. Of course what really makes the difference is the warmth and efficiency of every one of the staff. From a wonderful first welcome from receptionist Julia to the restaurant servers and the bar staff, and all the beach attendants and bedroom cleaning staff, there was always friendly service of the very highest quality. Many of the staff have been there for a number of years - everyone’s loyalty, training and enthusiasm helped make a stay at Danai Beach so enjoyably memorable. I probably don’t need to say it, but I just can’t wait to return!

Great resort, very quiet, beautiful buildings, very nice rooms, large private beach, nice swimming pool, good restaurants (the main restaurant with breakfast and fine dining has one of the most stunning sea views we have ever seen). Very kind personnel (the Family who owns the resort is from Germany although they have been in Greece for more than 30 years, the personnel is Greek and very very nice and helpful). The beach is beautiful and the water is very clear. The resort area is green with lots of nice trees and flowers. We highly recommend this place for holidays, couples as well as families with little children. The only thing which is improvable are the wines at dinner. Unfortunately, they are served quite warm and are sometimes faded and taste of liqueur (meaning that they have not been transported or stored at the right temperature). Apart from this, we are looking forward to coming back to this paradise.
