we ate outside for lunch. I do not remember what I/we had. I remember the service was terrific. Seemed like a place for the wealthy and leisure class. Lovely grounds and building. I thought the food was commensurate with the setting.

The hotel itself is beautiful, set in the rolling hills of Tuscany yet close enough to Siena to get a short taxi ride (15-20m). However, there are some issues - there is a serious lack of management, it feels as though nobody is in charge at the hotel. The concierge and reception staff are neither welcoming nor informative. When we arrived they gave us a room key and that was it - did not offer any info on breakfast times, where to find the restaurant/bar or pool or any activities. We didn’t even get the key to the safe so we kept having to come back to ask where things were or when breakfast was. This continued throughout. At one point we asked for some walking routes and all we got was ‘if you turn right at the end of the road there’s less cars’, we found a trail 5 minutes away from the hotel on our own. We also got told there was a welcome drink which reception then told the barman we weren’t owed, thankfully the barman was one of the friendlier staff at the restaurant and quickly apologised for the confusion and provided the welcome drink free of charge. The food in the restaurant was okay 6.5/10 but way overpriced - we ate there for lunch and dinner one day and decided not to go back again. Expect to pay double what you would in Siena for average food and service. The restaurant service is disorganised, when you walk in the restaurant nobody acknowledges you, there’s no ‘wait to be seated sign’ so you end up walking around asking for help, some waiters are friendly, some aren't. The Maitre’D seemed nice. The sauna and steam room aren’t free to hotel guests which I think is pretty cheeky, it’s 25 euro per person per hour - not what you expect at a 5* hotel, never seen that before. Finally, the night before our departure we asked the reception to pre-book us a taxi to the train station as we had an international flight from Rome. I expressed the importance of the pre-booked taxi as if we miss the train we miss our flight. She assured me her colleague would book it for arrival at 7:20am. We were staying in one of the exterior buildings so I called the reception a few times between 6:50am and 7:15 to check the taxi was definitely coming, either the phone wasn’t working or they didn’t bother picking up as nobody answered. Low and behold we get to the reception at 7:15 to find no taxi had been booked and his response was ‘I’ll book it now’ bearing in mind it takes them 25 mins to reach the hotel! I found this particularly frustrating as I had asked multiple times for this taxi to be pre-booked . I asked for someone to please take us to the station as we couldn’t wait another 25 minutes for a taxi or we would miss our flight. In the end one of the maintenance/groundsmen was able to take us in a van. He was very apologetic and friendly. All in all it’s such a shame that they can’t get the service right as it truly is a beautiful place and one I would have liked to come back to! Beautiful but so disappointing!

This place is both the best and the worst. Best: The hotel itself is One of the most beautifully renovated ancient set of buildings i have ever seen, everything showcases the amazing italian talent for design. It is hyper comfortable in the rooms and common places, down to every details. The worst is the restaurant and bar. Service is beyond horrible. Staff attitude is arrogant, management is incompetent. Examples: one has to wait 45 mn between courses at dinner, server did not even offer explanations or apologies. Only after we showed displeasure did the maitre D’ came to arrogantly profer a reluctant ‘sorry’. Food itself is inconsistent: good pasta dishes but very disappointing meat dishes, not up to the standards of a supposedly great chef. Other example: we ordered a mojito at the hotel bar before dinner, the bartender said, ‘we have no mint tonight, so mojito is not possible.’ Yet, same evening at the hotel restaurant for dinner, we had a dish with fresh mint in it…note: the bar is right next to the restaurant in the hotel… Other example: at breakfast the next day: it took several guests’ insitence to get restaurant staff to open the sun umbrellas to provide shade… it was obviously a task that they just did not wish to perform… despite the hot sun…they finally did it, slowly and with much attitude… In conclusion: i highly recommend the hitel, but do not eat or drink there! Plenty of lively restaurants with much better attitude

We are still dreaming of our visit to this place. From start to finish, it is pure perfection. We had a 1 bedroom villa which had 2 floors and a little outside terrace, perfect for lounging and it had an amazing view of the surrounding countryside and Siena into the distance. The breakfast was simply to die for, and we ate at the on-site restaurant both nights of our stay - the food was exceptional and would thoroughly recommend the tasting menu at least once (we thought excessive to have twice but thought about it!). The wine produced at the Relais was a perfect accompaniment to our stay, too. The hotel has 2 pools and we enjoyed lounging at both, and in the evenings enjoyed just strolling around the grounds. It's a perfect place to relax and recharge, but also explore the local hills. The hotel helped us arrange for Vespa's to explore the area, which we enjoyed using to visit the local Chianti Sculpture Park (a real gem!) and some local vineyards. Couldn't recommend more for any visitor to Tuscany, it really is the perfect place to live la dolce vita!

This is a nice enough, small resort in an undeniably beautiful part of Tuscany. Rooms are a good size and the breakfast was good. There is ample parking. Service in the restaurant was excellent. There are a number of key points to note before booking though: They advertise as having two pools, one for families and one for adults. As per other reviews, this is simply not true. In peak times, both were filled with children and certainly not a relaxing, five star experience. Nobody enforced the one pool as adults only. Fine for families, but not for those seeking a relaxing time! It is also quite isolated, with the twenty minute drive to Siena on significantly rural roads. This isn’t an issue, but there is nowhere near enough to do locally if you do not have a car. Worth being aware when booking. Overall it lacks the small touches of a genuine five star and certainly wouldn’t be in the UK. Service at check in was ‘just okay’, the pool side bar and mini bar are expensive and the restaurant lacks choice. The tennis courts are run down, with the nets broken on one of the two, the balls lent are cheap.

We stayed here as part of an arts and leisure package for a wine tour. The hotel place is amazing. The food was more than excellent. The service was not good at all. It took an hour to get wine glasses to our room. No one seemed to know if there was a room service charge. The little things like paying for water are annoying especially when you are at a chateau relais. Would I stay here again. Yes but I would lower my expectations about service

This was such wonderful find. The staff are excellent and so accommodating. Very friendly. The location just cannot be beat. Just 15 mins outside of Siena along a nice vineyard road. We are on top of a hillside with spectacular views especially during the dinner hours with the sunset and nice cool breeze. Can't say enough good things about this location.

A wonderful property chosen for us by @cellartours. Lush Tuscan countryside, beautiful vistas from every part of this interesting collection of village buildings. The room was spacious and very clean, the breakfast buffet was spectacular. Evening dinners were tasty and well presented.
