The laminated paper menu probably should have warned us the food would be mediocre. We nearly left and went to the other pub, and I wish we had - we ordered the 'special' (roast pork) and were presented with what looked, and tasted, like a mass-produced school dinner. We left disappointed and went to the other pub for dessert.

This is a nice homely pub that serves a good selection of above average pub meals at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is good, the service is friendly and the drinks pretty cheap too. Cheaper and busier than the more upmarket The Bridge next door.

This pub has been one of our families favourite for many a year. It never changes, still the same good value food and an excellent selection of ales. We love the atmosphere of young and old alike looking out on the wonderful views. Long may it stay the same.. Excellent value for money for what has to be one of...

Called in for lunch after a walk round Buttermere on a damp and cloudy day. The welcome was as warm as it usually is, even though it was very busy day. Good selection of beers available and drinks were served quickly. Our food was beautifully prepared and delicious. We have been several times and never been disappointed, lovely to lunch...

Nice family friendly pub in a lovely quiet location. Food menu also good serving traditional pub grub. Very reasonably priced also. Nice to call in after a walk around the lake and have a drink or bite to eat. Great views of the fells!!

Beautifully situated in Buttermere with free parking and free wifi (not really up to anything other than receiving emails). The hotel is tastefully traditional. We had opted for the superior rooms, which are pricey for what you get, but not for Buttermere: the village is very sought after by walkers and there are very few rooms available in the village,...

My daughter & I stayed at the Fish Inn Buttermere for a few days autumnal hill walking. I am a vegetarian and my daughter a vegan so I made sure to discuss this when I booked. They could not have done more to accommodate us, making sure we had vegan options for breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals. The Inn...

I don't understand why a pub on a great walk is not dog friendly, but the thing that really pisses me off is when you don't mention this on your website - you must disappoint so many people - have the courtesy to state your unfriendly status.

This was our second stay at the Fish Inn. Staying five nights this time. Once again we had a really lovely stay. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a view out over the fields to Buttermere. The bar staff were friendly, service was quick we ate in most evenings and I can say that the food was great...
