Stunning location, beautiful mountains and great traditional hostel. If you like a home for home when your away this is a great family hostel. Staff are lovely and helpful. Great place for kids. The hostel has a new campsite which is a cool idea, you can camp and use facilities if the weather is bad!

This YHA was a revelation! In a beautiful setting above Buttermere, the old stone building has a quiet, inviting air to it, including lovely, spacious bedrooms with good views and a stunning lounge which invites to stay and relax in a quiet environment. The dining space, too, is very nicely laid out. A lovely place to stay all round. Oh, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Staff very helpful and amazing location, views were top notch! Camping platforms were a bit uncomfortable to sleep on but overall was good. Was good to have access to all facilities even though we were only camping outside

To all those young at heart, don't bother to read this and just go there if you love beauty, serenity, magnificence, birds, red squirrels, glaciated lakes and valleys and sculpted mountains. This is all available wether you stay at the Yha or not, but it's fun to stay at the Yha cos you can be whoever you please, including a schoolmistress, red Indian, OAP, triathlete, tourist or Wainwright. They might all still be there 😉 and remember, wherever you go changes who you are.

The hostel is in a superb position, south facing veranda where we enjoyed a drink before eating. Then, such a privilege to watch the rosy glow as the late-evening setting sun shone over the peaks beyond Buttermere.
