We stayed here three nights. Very friendly, outstanding location. A short walk to the lake. Very small and cosy. Also short walk from Buttermere, where you can have pub dinner if needed. Road to Buttermere is a bit narrow which is to be expected.

Wood House is a nice B&B in a very scenic location but taking everything into consideration and comparing it to the many other B&B's we've stayed at in Britain we didn't think it was worth the money. Our room was nice and clean and our host was friendly and helpful as you would expect but our room had neither a shower nor a TV. I can understand that when people come back from a long hike they may wish to soak in a hot bath but a shower can also be convenient and while we certainly don't want to spend our holiday watching TV, a TV can be useful for the morning news or an hour in the evening and especially if the weather is bad. The breakfast was nice but on the small side. As I said previously I am comparing Wood House with other B&B's we have stayed in.

We arrived about 4pm and we didn’t request an evening meal. Tony the proprietor arranged something for us at very short notice. The 2 course meal was lovely. We shared a large dining table with 2 other guests and the conversation just flowed. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean, the bed was so comfy I slept like a log. It was our 1st stay at Crummock Water and our very first hill walk. Tony took us to the top of the Rannerdale Knotts we thought it was so good if him. I can honestly say we had a superb stay and would recommend Wood House for a perfect stay.

The location of Wood House is serene, in Buttermere overlooking Crummock Water, surrounded by spectacular fells. I had an idyllic stay there in Room 1 in mid-July. A short walk through field and wood brings you to two pubs, ice cream shop, and café in Buttermere, and easy lake walks start from the garden. The McKenzie brother are thoughtful and caring hosts, providing helpful information without being overbearing. Highly recommended if you will be visiting this area of the Lake District.

This is a special place - we booked the cottage for a week for our family of five and it was a comfortable and practical base for outdoor activities. It’s all about the location really. Very calm, beautiful and private while still being less than ten minutes from two good pubs - a great combination. Lots of beautiful walking for all levels very nearby. Tony offers great advice and - like others - we enjoyed the canoe taxi service! A warm and welcoming place to renew and recharge. Thank you Tony, Yolita and the team!
