Travelers' Choice
The wide grassy valley in which the lodge is situated is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft Mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west. In this exquisite position, the lodge offers stylish accommodation in thatched chalets which were designed with the fragile beauty of this remarkable environment in mind. Desert Homestead Lodge will ensure an unrivalled respite from the desert extremes. Tranquil surroundings, al fresco dining, delectably fresh farm cuisine, refreshing dips in the pool, stunning sunsets and sunrises are the basic pleasures at the lodge. And meandering across endless plains or discovering ancient water courses on a beautifully groomed steed is a magical and alternative way to appreciate the surroundings. The final remnants of each day see nature at her most profound. Rugged landscapes bathed in hues of pastel ... a truly humbling experience.

Had a nice stay her with a full morning excursion to Sossusvlei as the highlight. Not cheap but worth the money recognizing you don’t need to drive yourself, have explanations on the way and with a great refreshing lunch in the middle of the desert. I was able to climb the full 45 Dune which was a good recommendation before it was too warm and it helped to focus on visiting the Deadvlei later on. Wrt the lodge: great private cabins with stunning views and a nice shower. We also enjoyed the pools. The meals were ok. The service was somewhat average and very slow the first evening. The winelist was in fact ver nice, including even some Namibian wines. But: be aware of Germans, they reserve the best places at the pool and for dinner, not respecting the first come, first service principle. We shared this with the manager, hopefully action will be taken (even if the owner is a German).

Lovely stylish and comfortable cottages with good bathrooms and hot showers, although the duvets were very small (like children's duvets!). The welcome was nice, with cold drinks, an explanation of the activities on offer, and a tour. The setting was beautiful and peaceful with lovely views from the cottages and the main lodge. There are two pools with lots of seating areas, as well as a well-stocked bar, so it was a great place to relax for the afternoon. The food was simple and well done (the steak was one of the best we had in Namibia) and we had some excellent sunset views on the terrace during and after dinner. We came here *after* we had visited Sossusvlei in the morning. The lodge is potentially a bit far to get there for morning activities (at least in the winter) given outer gate opening times as it is a good 45min drive, but I imagine for late afternoon it would work. We had booked this lodge as our lodge inside the Sossusvlei gates wasn't available for two nights, and to be honest we'd thought of it more as a stopover than somewhere we were particularly excited about, but it ended up being one of our favourite lodges of our trip.

Very nice lodge at 35-40 minute drive from the entrance of Sossusvlei. Very friendly staff and excellent cook will a nice breakfast buffet and very tasteful dinner. The rooms are very nice small houses with a terrace. We also did the horse trail in the evening, which was also very pleasant. The pool was very cold though (like most pools).

The entire property is well planned. Lots of common areas allowing for privacy. A separate pool for children and an adult-only pool area. A nice outdoor gin bar. The cabins are spaced out. The walkway is behind so other guests are not walking in front of you. Each has its own patio. Good sized bathrooms that include toiletries and solar powered hot water. They provide coffee in the room (just ask for the water flask at dinner). Amazing views from the cabin while you lay in bed. We did the happy hour and 1/2 day dune and canyon activity through the lodge. TK our guide was excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly. Overall the staff was helpful and eager to make you happy. Good food and they did give you options if you did not want game meat.

We were here for 2 nights and the focal point of our stay was the guided Sossouvlei excursion which was amazing and we recommend it warm heartedly to everyone! Immanuel, our guide, knows a lot about the surroundings and the geology of the area and took good care of us the whole time! The restaurant offers also delicious vegetarian options which -in our opinion- look sometimes even better that the meat options. We also drank an excellent gin tonic and a very good wine. The rooms are new, stylish and very clean with an amazing view. We didn’t even have to book the sundowner because we had our private one in the room! The rooms are designed for digital detox, so no wifi except at the reception. Downside: the shower didn’t have that much pressure and no hot water (only warmish water).

Another great setting. So peaceful. We took the morning excursion to the dunes, which although touristy was fascinating and well worth the trip. Climbed a bit of Dune 45 and got some great pictures. Had picnic lunch in shady Sossusvlei before returning. One of us went horse riding with Bunny the wrangler. Also met Spotty the zebra who thinks he is a horse!

We loved out stay at the Desert Homestead Lodge. The rooms and lodge are decorated beautifully and have all of the amenities you could need (AC, hair dryer, a nice hot shower, spacious bathroom, a stunning pool, etc.). We appreciated the little touches like the gin-tasting happy hour as well. The staff was amazing and was always there to help. There was a very high staff-to-guest ratio. We loved the meals as well, they had some of the better lodge meals we had during our trip in Namibia. I also recommend the sundowner horseback ride. Even if horseback riding isn't important to you, it takes you to a perfect sunset view. We took advantage of the hiking trails on the property as well.
