A very friendly welcome at this roadside pub. The room was adequate and comfortable, but not brilliantly cleaned (dead fly on windowsill, for example). However, quiet and welcoming. Food was fairly basic, even by pub standards, but plentiful. Overall, a little bit expensive for what was offered, compared with traditional hotels in the area.

The staff were very welcoming when I arrived and throughout my stay, going out of their way to help in any way possible. The room was comfortable, and had everything I needed for a comfortable couple of nights and all at excellent value for money. The only downfall is the internet. If they were to update the internet to a... More

Let's just say that it was good it wasn't a "Four in the Bed" program! Tired bathroom with unstable showerscreen, pillow shams with pillows in what sounded like plastic bags and a television nearly smaller than my iPad. As for WiFi - forget it -rather errattic and only possible downstairs.

Stayed for 1 night (2 adults, 1 dog) and enjoyed our visit. We received a warm welcome from the bank holiday rain and enjoyed a drink and a bite downstairs before retiring to bed. The room, like the pub downstairs, was clean and tidy. The Haymaker is three or four minutes' drive from Chard HIgh Street and in a charming... More

This is my second business stop here and might be my last. Firstly, an 8am breakfast is a bit late when you've got a day's work ahead of you. Secondly, it's 11.30pm and there is still music blaring and people talking loudly in the bar below clearly audible in the room. It feels like a place where the accommodation is... More

We play league skittles here a few times a year - beer always well kept and the place is tidy. But that's about it! Why can't they be bothered to look after their customers? As a result, I certainly can't be bothered to recommend the place - the landlords just don't put any effort in! The place has so much... More

Whilst the bar staff are very friendly and know how to treat their customers unfortunately they seem to have the worst chef on the planet, in fact the term chef really does not apply in this instance. We decided to try their Sunday lunch since the pub is recently under new management and we have used The Haymaker as a... More

We booked two nights at the Haymaker during a trip down to Somerset. It was easy to find using our sat-nav, and we were warmly welcomed by the staff. Guest rooms are upstairs, but take care, as the steps are steep and made a bit more difficult by the thick carpeting. Our room was small and basic, but it was... More

We've lived a stone's throw from the Haymaker for nearly 4 years, but it has taken until the latest landlord for them to figure out the menu. Gone are the pre-packed 'Hunters Chicken' and 'Vegetarian Lasagne' and they are now serving home-made burgers with unique Garnish (the Ploughman's Burger was delicious), an exciting and tasty vegetarian curry, and lot of... We stayed at The Haymaker 6 weeks into the new proprietors had taken over . Whilst the facilities and decor are dated the accomodation is clean and the atmosphere homely. This dog friendly pub provides a good menu and a range of real ales. The couple are very friendly and appear very enthusiastic to make this Inn a success.Keep up... More
