We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at Secret Bay. Best to start with key people that made it superb-the manager Natalia, the chef and pastry chef at Zing Zing, the waiter Sheldon at Zing Zing and our host for our villa, Matarina. Our driver Gillette was our favorite. Some things to be prepared for we didn’t know-you will need a driver to get anywhere as Secret Bay is not close to towns. Prepare to have cash for tips for drivers-ATMs are not easily accessible. Assume you will rely on food at Secret Bay unless one of the market days are part of your excursions. Check the prices of pre stocked items before checking all the boxes. Kitchens are well stocked with equipment so preparing your own foods is easy if you get your own food. Nice dishwasher, oven, microwave and even washing machine/dryer in kitchen. Not a lot of good nearby restaurants-Zing Zing is extraordinary and worth the price. They also have a bar downstairs you can get small bites. Book bird watching in advance-Dr. Birdy is a hoot and really knowledgeable. Other excursions you might want to wait on depending on weather. For example, we couldn’t do any beach activities the whole week due to ground swells. Also, check cruise ship schedules if possible to avoid crowds. Souvenirs are hard to come by-think of specific things you might want and ask to go to shops that have those-I was able to get lovely fabric and some seasonings/spices in Portsmouth with our drivers help. Soaps, Chocolate, Creole seasonings, Hot sauces and BB Rum are popular here.

- Beautiful property - the rooms are modern, lots of wood (scandinavian like), plenty of space - Our villa, Ti-Fey I (peninsula), is the best villa on the property for a couple - stunning view, great location (near restaurant & spa, and a short walk to bar/pool & front desk) - very impressive staff (villa host, concierge, pool bar, restaurants, taxi) - friendly, helpful, responsive - contact with the villa host & concierge is via iPhone - provided by property at registration - good wifi. Itinerary is easily updated by concierge - villa stocked for breakfast (fruit, eggs, bread, etc) was very nice - villa was cleaned & refreshed daily by villa host - and anything we needed was provided promptly - Restaurant food (ZingZing) was excellent, quick pool bar lunches also very good - we really enjoyed the in-villa cooking dinner - with the head chef! It was not really a hands on cooking class, but still a very interactive experience with the chef - the spa staff are some of the best we have experienced - the boat excursion up the coastal trail and around to the north side of the island was enjoyable - beautiful day, slick water, brand new 28 ft tour boat - The tour ending dinner at "Reel It In" was somewhat disappointing - average service, ok food, definitely a beach hut experience - kind of a pot luck experience - Property is expanding - 6 or so new units being built, another restaurant, gym (finished) and I think a kiddo activity area opening soon - We heard (at the pool) that the other Ti-Fey villas can be noisy due to the nearby road All in all, we were very happy with this trip and can easily and highly recommend this property.

After spending two weeks at Secret Bay I feel like I got a pretty good feel for the place, and I have to say I would have to really search for anything negative to say. The property is tucked into the forest and bay, with nature at every turn. We had bird visitors on our porch every day (sweet little bananaquits and finches), iguanas and lizards on the path, views of pelicans swooping over the bay, and sounds of frogs chirping at night. And I can’t forget the hummingbirds visiting the flowers around the villa either. Our villa overlooked the bay, with great views and the sounds of the waves which can even be heard with the windows shut. I probably could have stayed on property the whole time, but there was a whole island to explore, so activities were booked by Natalia the concierge. We went canyoning, down the Indian River, to three waterfalls (Jacko, Spanny and the Emerald Pool), birdwatching with Dr Birdy in the Syndicate Forest, and to Batibou beach. The activities that we arranged on our own were scuba diving with Cabrits dive center, and sperm whale snorkeling with Andrew Amour. These trips really showcased the beauty of Dominica. The really nice thing about Secret Bay is that a driver/guide was arranged for each trip to make it as seamless as possible. All we had to do was show up at the welcome center. A bag was already packed for us (food, water, towels, etc) the driver was waiting, and off we went. No navigating, no looking for gas stations, no stress in other words. The drivers we met included Gillet, Neilbert and Randall. Each were happy to show off their island and give a little history as we went. On the property we spent time at Tibay beach and Secret beach. We preferred to snorkel over to Secret beach but could have kayaked if desired. We also got to visit the Magical sea cave, with Johnny as our guide. It really was pretty amazing, with lobsters along the walls and bats sleeping on the ceiling. Our villa host was Racquel, and in addition to making sure we were well taken care of, she made some pretty delicious breakfasts. Our favorites were traditional Dominican breakfast (salt fish, Johnny cakes, plantains and fruit) and French toast. The tropical fruits supplied to our villa were also much appreciated. The meals at the restaurant Zing Zing were phenomenal, without a repeat of an item in our entire 14 day stay. The menu is also flexible enough to allow substitutions (you don’t want octopus? Sure, here are 4 other types of fish we can offer!) Thanks to Chelsea and Sheldon for their excellent service in the restaurant. The only traveler tip I have to offer is perhaps wear bug spray even when you don’t think you need it if you are susceptible to bites. The stay at Secret Bay was extraordinary and will not be forgotten.

[Side note--we went the last week in February during Carnival. It's a huge, happy celebration for all on the island, so if you book a trip during this time, just be cool okay? There will be some bass beats and music into the night. Smile because people are dancing and LIVING it up--you could be too! It's on the 20th and 21st. After that it quiets down again] Holy. Smokes. This place was the trip of a lifetime. I've made a list! (and sincere apologies for misspelling names as I can guarantee I will! Regardless, I wanted to give shout outs where they were do!): -The Transport: They have a car pick you up at the airport! Thank you Wayne! You were the best tour guide along the way! (Be warned, the drive is an hour on narrow, windy roads but the views are 100% worth it). The whole ride he kept us entertained with stories of the island, its resilience after hurricane Maria, the locales of certain Pirates of the Caribbean shots, facts about his hometown, etc. Wayne also brought us back to the airport when it was time to go. I saw another review saying they had a negative departure experience, but ours went off without a single minute hitch. No complaints! Just thanks. -The Staff: They're INCREDIBLE. They are so friendly, kind, helpful, and make you feel utterly spoiled. I loved getting to know them, and it was lovely to, as the resort is intimate, and small. Not once did we feel crowded anywhere we went. We even had a beach all to ourselves one afternoon! You can lay on the resort's which is small and beautiful, or kayak/paddle board around the peninsular cliff to the "secret beach" which is soft white sand and even clearer waters beneath an enormous cliffside. It was stunning. The little crabs were ADORABLE and don't worry, they leave you entirely alone. -The Support: You are assigned a staff member to look after your restaurant reservations, turn downs, villa refreshing, and any other requests. Francisca, you are an angel and we are grateful to you for making our stay so special! She left us a little box with dessert in it, every night on our counter with a sweet note from the staff. It was really heartwarming. Truly. And they send you sweet good morning messages on your villa cell with the start of every new day. Plus, you need binoculars? They've got them. Games and books? In your villa. Flippers and beach shoes? Check. Yoga gear? In the corner. What DON'T they have?! -The Shower Supplies: Sooooo I thought it was SUPER cool they had a local business provide the shower "gel", shampoo and conditioner. I FULLY support this! The lemony bar soap was my favorite, but alas I have to say that as much as I wanted to love it, the red clay soap smelled sort of like playdough, and the shampoo and conditioner were super drying. Ladies? If you're picky about these things I would suggest packing your own tried-and-true shampoos and conditioners. Post shower, they have a fabulous body lotion though!! -The Resort: It's actual heaven on earth. It. Is. STUNNING. And SO romantic!!! My jaw was constantly hitting the ground upon our arrival. When we saw our villa, I thought the Kennedys were going to come and kick us out or something. It's luxurious, well appointed, both cozy and awe inspiring with its "on top of the world" views of the sea, cliffs, jungle, and mountains. You are always surrounded by stunning wildlife and flora. We had hummingbirds outside our villa all day, and silent bats at night (they also don't bother you. They were mesmerizing to watch). The villas are separate enough for full privacy and comfort. They're situated in gradation up a steep hill, and staff will drive you up and down in golf carts at the send of a text (thank you Jacob, Tommy, Clenlin (Kenlen? I'm so sorry for likely butchering names!), though often we enjoyed the walk. We cooked our own breakfast (but you can ask your villa helper to do that for you instead, if you like!) outside in the fresh air and all stress completely melted from my body. The bed is huge and comfortable. You have your own little warm, private pool, a comfy hammock under your villa, room for yoga... The resort on the whole has a gorgeous lap pool, beach lounge chairs, the spa, yoga pavilion, and restaurant. They were in the process of building a gym while we were there! -THE YOGA: Do the yoga with Lulu in the pavilion down the hill and then do yourself the most MASSIVE favor of all time and book a trip up to her and her husband Aubrey's farm near the summit in Syndicate. It's only 15 minutes away and their warm hearts and stunning, fruitful farm will absolutely take your breath away. I've never seen a place so gorgeous. Their mission is so wholesome, their food so fresh and vibrant and healing... I could write an entire review JUST for their farm and the things they have planned with it. Even if you're not a farmer, or you don't think you're into farms, YOU WILL BE. GO. Trust me. -The Spa: Small, intimate, open wall to the sea so you can hear the booming waves against the cliff and the wind through the leaves and they work their magic on you and you leave all your cares behind. Sigh... Still dreaming of my hot oil massage. Can I come back and have another? -The Food: THE FOOD!? THE FOOD! Best I've had anywhere, any resort or hotel, EVER. Hands down. Their chef, their restaurant, their pool side bar offerings were just... beyond amazing. Zing Zing restaurant could shame high end restaurants in any major city. The meals at the bars were comfort food and cooked with love. You think I'm just saying that. I'm not. I felt the love. Secret Bay, please pass on our continued gratitude to the chef, and to (hope I spell this right!?) Kesa who must have been my bestie in another life, because on some level I felt like we knew each other. Miss you girl! -The Drinks: They had everyone's favorite classics as well as the most insane, artisinal, original cocktails crafted by (hope I spell his name right...) Aziz, and Dane. I'm still shaking my head thinking about them. I tried things I never would have guessed went together, and loved every one of them. You make art. Seriously. It was delicious, alcoholic art. Ashish, your dedication to the craft, your focus while mixing, we feel nothing but respect. -The Outings: Sorry folks. The only thing we did other than lay around like a couple of decompressing, lazy bums was to visit the farm. Just... visit the farm. The rest we heard was awesome too. I can't think of anything else! My only constructive feedback for Secret Bay would be that the reservation surveys and onboarding inquiries ahead of our stay were a bit too much. I know you're trying to help get things scheduled and locked-in for folks, but we found all the calls and surveys to be a bit overwhelming and frustrating, particularly since we were so busy trying to wrap things up before leaving. We would have much preferred, if it were possible, to book outings a la carte, while we were there, as we felt like it (depending on your availability). I can't speak for others, but we're the sort of couple who book vacations to ESCAPE having to make many decisions and add things to our schedule. If you could boil things down to one shorter survey, you'd improve your client experience a lot! Overall, this was a dream stay. We can't thank Secret Bay enough for every thoughtful touch, every kind interaction, and every moment of peace and joy we felt during our week there. We will never forget it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This place and Dominica were very special. We were there for a babymoon and felt Dominica was such a beautiful and unspoiled place to visit. There weren't very many tourists and the beauty of the nature island really shined and took center stage. As far as Secret Bay, the villa was amazing. Akima our butler was around to help us with everything we needed. She cooked breakfast just as we wanted and restocked our fridge with supplies and snacks. The restaurant was amazing. Best food we've had on our tour of the Caribbean by far. The chef could even make something special if you didn't like the main dish or one of the sides. My husband is gluten free and they were easily able to adjust to his gluten free needs and brought gluten free bread for him at dinner. We met Gregor the owner, and he was friendly and interested in our stay. They do try to shill a bit their residency/investment program, but you can just ignore their proposals and go about your stay. It's not as bad as some resorts we've visited. They seem proud of their property. The cell phone to communicate was nice. Temperature of the villa was good. You could watch the birds and iguanas from the deck of the villa. The plunge pool was really large and we likely how you could adjust to temperature to your liking. We kept ours on slightly warm, which was perfect at the end of a busy day. On to constructive words. The concierge needs to improve slightly. They have a HUGE list of activities that they send you, but honestly none of them except one panned out for us (indian river boat trip-which we could have arranged ourselves). We had emailed ahead of time what we were interested in, but when we showed up they seemed unaware. We really like to stay busy and active on vacation. We were interested in the night snorkeling and the lionfish hunt, which we expressed the first day, then they let us know later that day neither was available, but didn't explain the reasoning. We asked for other water-based suggestions, but they never responded. They said we could snorkel "off the beach" which you can do, but we already did that for several hours. We asked for the week long national park pass, they gave us the day pass, so we had to go back and get the correct one when we did some exploring on our own. The concierge just seemed overall distracted. We also asked if we could be taken to the advertised magical "sea cave" and basically were on standby a whole day for this and no one every contacted us although we asked several times. No reason was given why we couldn't go-high tides etc. This was pretty disappointing. I think they need to work on their activity offerings and organize better to actually get people on the activities of their choice. One other weird thing was our departure. We had an early flight, like 0800, so had to get driving around 0545. We asked the night before if someone could please help us with our bags as the villa is on a steep hill and we had two medium sized rolling suitcase and there are also a lot of steps to navigate out of the villa. No one showed up to help with our suitcases, and my husband and I had to transport them down the steep hill outside of Ti-Fey II ourselves (me at 28 weeks pregnant). We are fit people, so it wasn't terrible, but just felt like a standard for a 5 star hotel is usually to help with your luggage upon arrival and departure. We never got an explanation or communication regarding this. Overall, an excellent stay with good food and villa, but some improvements could be made of the activity scheduling and departure.

What I truly like about Secret Bay is the fact that hey work with local extremely well trained staff. Keldon and Francesca our housekeepers/butlers/cooks made our stay an unforgettable one. Although we usually prefer to have breakfast in the restaurant, they were able to prepare a tailor made breakfast fullfilling all our crazy wishes. But they also cleaned and tidied the house, did the laundry (not an easy task with 4 teenagers) and were very discreet. In short a super first contact. However, although the resort has a lot of potential, is still very small and missing a few essential elements for a over the top place (there is no gym and only one restaurant, a lot of activities are often not available unless booked a long time before (the massage, yoga, cooking). However, what they do offer is very good, and as the gym and second restaurant will come soon, there will be maybe more staff to create some more flexibility. So if you come there next year I am certain that this issues have been solved. One more tip: if you like sea-view do not book a slang-ylang villa, although they are beautiful and cosy, they are too much within the bushes. When we commented upon this, Secret bay was very understanding and gave a twice a one night upgrade to a Zabuco villa, they have stunning views. In my opinion villa 1 is most private and villa 3 has the best views. The Ti-fey villa is a nice family villa directly next to the restaurant and with a nice sea view as well!

My husband and I had a magical time at Secret Bay. From the minute we landed at Dominica airport, we were treated like royalty. Our driver Gillet stopped to point out landmarks along the way to the resort and had lots of entertaining stories to tell. Our other driver/guides Tyron and Shavon were also incredibly personable, friendly, and informative. Tashida, our villa hostess, spoiled us with delicious meals such as traditional Dominican breakfasts (but she would make us whatever we asked for). She also surprised us with nightly treats, including a special anniversary dessert complete with rose petals and sparkling wine! The place itself is unique and beautiful, and we felt at times like we were on our own private island - even though the concierge told us the resort was fully booked. I loved waking up in our villa to the sound of birds every morning and taking a dip in our private plunge pool. There's so much to say about this place, but mainly I would say treat yourself to a stay at Secret Bay while exploring this very cool island.

My husband and I have stayed at remarkable places and experienced terrific adventures in our travels over the years. However, some locations possess a certain magic. With their charm and beauty, they cast a spell on us that opens our hearts, makes us feel at home, helps us to relax profoundly, and be in a state of joy. Secret Bay is one of those places. Discreetly nestled within the gorgeous island of Dominica, Secret Bay is a paradise. The Founder and CEO Gregor Nassief cares deeply about the property, and he and his staff preserve and honor the island’s beauty. The villas and other buildings blend seamlessly into the naturally lush green surroundings. We treasured our supremely comfortable and luxurious villa, the breathtaking views of the ocean, the sounds of the birds singing, and the deep feeling of serenity throughout our stay. While a place can be beautiful and comfortable, it’s the quality of service that makes a place exceptional. I am sure the General Manager Dinesh Kissoon must be proud of his incredible staff. Because of their warmth and kindness, we wish to return to Secret Bay, our home away from home. Our luxury villa was even better thanks to our lovely villa host Francesca. She kept everything spotless and was always willing to provide us with anything we needed. She even cooked a delicious Dominican breakfast for us one morning, which we loved! We were so touched to receive tasty treats and thoughtful gifts throughout our stay. For our anniversary, it moved us to see beautiful flowers decorating our bed, a bottle of champagne, and fabulous sweets. Thank you, Francesca, for making our stay so memorable! We loved the soothing sound of the waves crashing ashore as Jesse and Tilly gave us wonderfully relaxing massages at the spa. The stunning pool is even better when you have terrific drinks prepared by the delightful bar staff: Dayne, Tiyasha, and Jervon. The beach and the pool were extra-special because of Johnny and Julius. They were so kind, helping us with water shoes for the beach, assisting us in and out of the boat, and adjusting our umbrella to protect us from the sun. Thank you to Sheldon, Tiana, Gaiella, the chef, and the kitchen staff for providing such fantastic food. Everything was outstanding and so beautifully prepared that every dish was Instagram-worthy! Being able to hitch a ride on a golf cart at a moment’s notice was a great way of getting around the property when we were too lazy to walk. What made it extra special was the delightful drivers. Thank you to Clendon, Alton, and everyone on the team. I’m so sorry that I don’t have everyone’s names. Though we were happy to lounge at the hotel all day, we also thoroughly enjoyed our off-property excursions. We loved our guide and driver, Gilette. He was so caring and attentive. We had a great time swimming with whales, seeing the waterfalls, soaking in the hot springs, and exploring the gorge. Thank you to Natalia in Concierge for helping us to obtain the permit to swim with the whales. Because it is highly regulated by the Dominican government, it’s no easy feat to get the permit. However, it was worth the effort. We were blessed to spend 20 minutes in the water with a sperm whale! It was a life-changing and sacred experience for us. Thank you to everyone at Secret Bay for providing us with a truly exceptional experience. From the time of booking through the end of our stay, Natalia, Krystal, Lawrencia, Bianca and so many at Concierge were incredibly kind and helpful to us. We also appreciated Dwayn, Ashish, Racquel, and the many other wonderful staff members who made us feel so welcome. We look forward to seeing you all again!

This resort is the most peaceful, beautiful place we've been to in the Caribbean. It has been expanding slowly over the past 10yrs and it is spectacular! The villas (any one of the 10 - we were in Ylang Ylang 1) are beautiful, private, well appointed and if you don't want to leave them, you can shop in town and do all your own cooking in your villas! However, you may want to experience the outstanding cuisine offered in the Zing Zing restaurant on site by the fabulous chef & staff - every evening is a wonderful dining experience! The staff are all so helpful and friendly and will help you with booking tours, or take you wherever you'd like to visit on the island! This is a place you must visit at least once in your life to 'turn off' and take in the beauty of Dominica!

We spent 5 nights at Secret Bay, staying in the Zabuco Honeymoon Villa I. In a word, the facility is jaw dropping-- that's two words, but you get the point. I should say in the weeks leading up to the experience, the folks at SB sent off requests for us to complete regarding desired activities. In addition they allowed us to pick food and drink we wanted in the villa upon our arrival. The villa lives like a lovely modern home high atop a rocky outcropping with 180 degree views of the ocean and Portsmouth. In addition, the villa is staffed by a dedicated host who will act as your one-stop-for-anything connection to the property. Our host, Keldon was lovely through and through. She cooked us breakfast every morning and daily brought us unexpected and thoughtful treats, tailoring things to our specific preferences. The entire process is logistically handled via text on WhatsApp through either your own phone or a villa-included iPhone. Responsiveness by our host and the front-desk was almost always instant and accommodating. I'd say the theme of the property is relaxation. If you want more adventurous and or physically active outings, I'd suggest asking for that clearly. Many of the more physically challenging and engaging activities are a drive a way-- something the property will gladly arrange. The hotel contracts with a fleet of vans and drivers which they'll almost always be able to arrange. Gellet, our driver was a warm, caring and knowledgable guide during our time on the island. We were able to request him throughout the trip which was really great for familiarity. We opted for a mix of on and off property dining. There are a few really cool casual options in town. Dining at the hotel can be a mix of in-villa or in restaurant. The typical in-restaurant dinner is a 5 course set menu, although I think given a modest ask, they'd likely do anything possible given availability. One of several experiences we elected was an in-villa cooking class which was more of a demonstration given by the executive chef. He was so gracious, humble and kind and spent a good part of the afternoon with us explaining fascinating details of preparing fine-dining meals on Dominica. Thanks Chef Ranaweera, Keldon and the entire team!
