#3 of 4 hotels in Dominica
GreenLeaders Platinum level
UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT SINCE APRIL 2013. Manicou River is a collection of hand-crafted wooden cottages perched on the mountainside high above Douglas Bay and the Cabrits National Park on the beautiful, pristine island of Dominica. Our view is one of the best on the island, taking in mountains, the Caribbean Sea and the small town of Portsmouth below. We offer a simple, relaxing, nature experience with just the right touches of luxury.

We spent two weeks in Dominica, the first of which was spent in Manicou River, at the northwest tip of the island near Portsmouth and our stay there was the highlight of the trip. As the other reviews state, Manicou River is not the easiest place to reach--you'll want a 4x4, and

What an incredible experience! Every photo you see here is accurate, but still does not do Manicou River justice! It is absolutely beautiful and truly a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience. You will have little frogs, lizards, and birds milling about and will hear the life of the

Hi Lizzie, Thanks so much for the great review. This level of detail really helps others to understand the Manicou River experience. To clarify regarding breakfast, we do serve both full and continental breakfast. The reason it's not included in the standard rate is because the cottages have kitchens and some of our guests like to prepare breakfast for themselves. It would seem unfair to include breakfast into the rate for those who don't need it. It is possible to book with a breakfast included rate but we like to give our guests the choice. Also, good news is, there has been a lot of work done on the road in the past few weeks so that tricky bit at the bottom is all fixed! Kind regards, Kate, Patrick and all the Manicou Team.

Ten fantastic days exploring Portsmouth and surrounding areas. Manicou River was a great location to do this from but the real winner for us was the free "million dollar" views from the bungalows. Every morning, every day, every evening and even in the middle of the night when

On the northwest coast of the island, Manicou River was a bit of a splurge (cottages are $220-$265/nt with a 3-night minimum), but for the last leg of our trip, we knew we wanted to treat ourselves. Like many Dominican destinations, arrival at Manicou is part of the adventure as

Nothing substantiates Dominica’s renown as “The Nature Island” better than the Manicou River boutique eco-lodge. We stayed there recently, our second visit, and enjoyed it just as much this time as last, which is to say enormously. The rooms are beautifully appointed in a
