Staying at the Giardino di Costanza Hotel was certainly a unique experience. First, all about the hotel and then what made staying there unique. The first time I visited Italy was in 1965 when I was thirteen and entering the expansive hotel lobby I felt transported back to that time. That's not to say that anything looked old or worn. On the contrary, the hotel's architecture is quite modern and all of the furnishings and appointments looked quite fresh. It's simply that the design esthetic of the furnishings was very 60's. Were you making a film set in the 1960's and needed a hotel lobby that looked of that era, this would be the place to set up your camera. The room's fixtures, furnishings, and finishes were similarly of another era, but nonetheless appropriate for a luxury hotel of that time. The room was quite large, as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, the Internet was fast, and the shower was spacious. The halls, stairwells, and other public areas were wide, well lit, and virtually spotless. The hotel grounds were expansive and beautifully landscaped. There is nothing to complain about relative to the facility. There's nothing to complain about relative to the staff either. Everyone we had contact with was friendly and helpful. Two things made my stay at the Giardino di Costanza unique. First of all, the hotel's location. Although only ten minutes, at most, from the center of Mazara del Vallo and the ocean, the hotel itself is in the middle of nowhere, located on a very rural, two lane, road and surrounded on all sides by vast fields of grapevines seemingly stretching to the horizon. It's almost inconceivable that such a large hotel would ever be built in such an isolated, rural, location. Perhaps if there was a golf course attached, the hotel might not seem so out of place, but there isn't and it does. The second thing that made our stay unique was that the hotel was virtually empty of guests. If you've ever seen the movie "The Shining", that's how the hotel felt, inside and out. A little spooky. I doubt even ten rooms were occupied. Were I to judge by the number of parked cars, possibly not even five. And it's not like we were visiting in the middle of winter. By the calendar, it was still summer. I have no idea how the hotel's owners can justify keeping the hotel open. I can't comment about the food service because we never ate at the hotel. Not even breakfast, although we paid for it. And the reason was we didn't want to eat in an expansive dining room by ourselves. We extensively explored Mazara del Vallo and there's no hotel in or near town that can compare to the Giardino di Costanza. If you're looking for an upscale place to stay, it's the only place in town. My best wishes to the management, though, because I don't know how long a hotel of this size and quality can stay in business without guests.

Just returned from a lovely stay. The resort is beautiful, lovely weather, friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was great with lots of variety. We stayed half board and although the presentation of the dinner looked fabulous the food was a little repetitive and would be nice to have a bit more variety. Their is the most adorable kitten that is staying in the grounds, she loves a bit of chicken or fish if anyone can bear sharing their dinner!!I wished I was able to bring her home with me, anyone visiting I would be grateful of an update on her. The resort is located in lovely country side but it is a long way from any shops or sightseeing, taxis are quite expensive but it may be worth considering hiring a car.

The Costanza is a very good hotel, but it's not a 5 stars, at least by International Standards, here are the most important things to know about the hotel: -Pluses: -Really BIG rooms (superiors are facing the swimming pool, deluxe are facing the gardens), nice Sicilian vintage furniture, bed VERY comfy, we slept like babies. Bathroom is also big by Italian standards: nice shower plus bathtub and separate toilets. Two separate sinks are also in the bathroom. -Amazing grounds: the gardens are well kept and absolutely gorgeous. Plus you are in the middle of Olive Trees Fields and typical Sicilian Vineyards, really awesome. -Fantastic location: we LOVED the location and we do not understand the people complaining about it... the hotel is 10 minutes from Mazara's city center, and it takes 15 minutes to go to the beach... For us it was perfect as we loved the typical quiet Sicilian country setting. Of course you need a car, but who is going to visit Sicily without renting a car ?! -Nice big swimming pool, which is a rare find in Sicily, plenty of space to swim and plenty of loungers available. -parking always available onsite, free of charge -The BIGGEST PLUS for us was the hotel beach, but let me be clear, this is NOT the usual mediterranean beach. The beach is made of soft golden sand, but the whole bay is made of rocks (also under the water). You have the most fantastic snorkelling just in front of the beach!!! Most people did not venture out of the small "safe" area, but what a pity! We saw literally HUNDREDS of fishes around, just 20 meters from shore. It is absolutely swimmable as there are channels between the rocks that get you out. Mazara's sea is really one of a kind, it is very famous in Italy and now we understand why! -Minuses: -the breakfast was very disappointing as not a single Sicilian pastry was available for the entire stay... We stayed in Siracusa, Palermo, you name it, in different kinds of hotels, and the Sicilian pastries were always available at breakfast. We do not understand why the Costanza hotel offers various kinds of American pastries like muffins at breakfast, and no cassata, no canolo, no ericina... If the hotel is a real 5 stars, then it must provide this kind of services to the guests -check in at the reception was strange as absolutely no information about the area was given to us. No information whatsoever about the activities available or what to do/see around. We felt rushed to our room, which, again, is not usual in a 5 stars hotel. Everywhere else in Sicily the check ins were fantastic with very useful informations given by the reception staff. -there is no hair dryer in the bathroom (why?!), so we had to ask for one, but it was never delivered to our room despite our requests... -restaurant's staff was kind of a hit and miss, one of the waiters was very kind, but the others seemed bored and one of them seemed quite aggressive with guests, which is unacceptable. -some areas of the hotel are showing their age, as the Pergola which is situated on the hotel last floor. It's really a pity because the Pergola's setting is awesome. All in all I don't think we will go back, but it has been a good vacation nonetheless.

We really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable hotel set in beautiful grounds. Pool and facilities are excellent and the staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are beautiful, quiet and spacious. The only thing missing was no tea or coffee facilities in the bedroom but this was minor. Breakfast was outstanding, great selection. We were half board, the evening meal was very good, some nights felt a bit like leftovers used for some of the dishes. Felt the €8 charge for the water placed on the table each night when we didn't ask for it was a bit cheeky. We stayed a week - we were billed €56 for water over the week. Half board you expect that some water is included. Wine starts at €24 per bottle with no by the glass options. All in all loved the place and would highly recommend but some thought needs to go into catering for longer staying guests.
