The Sands Barbados hotel garners praise for its cleanliness and prime beachfront location, according to many guests. While the lively entertainment and stylish decor contribute to a positive atmosphere, there are occasional remarks about discomfort during inclement weather. The ample sunbeds and water sports are popular, yet some travelers suggest enhancements in beach service and room amenities.
Opinions on the rooms and service range from appreciative to critical, citing variability in size, comfort, and staff responsiveness. Finally, several guests question the hotel's value, pointing to the high cost in relation to the overall experience.

What a wonderful experience we just had at The Sands. We stayed in January after the soft opening.
The staff are some of the friendliest people I have ever met, genuinely interested in you and your day. Good visibility of management staff checking in on every couples experience and comments/questions too. We read all the trip advisor reviews before visiting and virtually every comment raised has already been implemented by the hotel. So great to see.
The hotel itself is very clean and modern, staff cleaning around the clock inside and out keeping it looking brand new (which it is). The room was faultless. Clean, modern, so comfortable, great bathroom great balcony and it needed nothing more. Perfect.
The food here is so good - they are really trying to make an effort here and it’s paying off. Virtually every meal was delicious and it’s good to see they haven’t gone down the generic cater for every cuisine buffet where the food is all mediocre. But instead several well prepared and local inspired dishes. The bar is also fantastic. Good quality alcohol, no cheap premixed rubbish, but freshly made cocktails and drinks and each bartender created a daily cocktail to share with guests too. So cool.
The pool and beach location are just amazing. Serenity. Quiet, always space on the beds, one of the best little beaches on the island.
It’s also really close to St Lawrence for nightlife if that’s your thing and about 5 minutes to a supermarket if you need anything. There is a well stocked pharmacy just next door as well.
Overall we were thoroughly impressed and already planning our next trip back!

Having stayed around the world in many wonderful hotels, I can honestly say I have never had such personal hospitality as we have experienced here at The Sands. The owners treat everyone staying here as their personal guests and you are made to feel like family. The staff are all so friendly and do all they can to make you feel special.
We would not normally do all inclusive but the quality chefs provide quality a la carte meals time and time again and despite having been here for a long while, we have never had the same meal twice! Excellent rooms which are always spotlessly clean are located around a huge pool with such comfortable beds and you are a hop, skip and a jump onto one of the best beaches on the island with warm crystal clear waters giving you a refreshing swim with turtles.
We are working here in the week and super quick, reliable wifi makes life and business so easy with the work life balance a dream at any time but even more so in these difficult times.
Cannot recommend highly enough!!!

We were fortunate to spend Christmas and New Year at the Sands hotel which only opened in November 2019 so we were some of the first guests to stay there. The location is amazing right on the beach with great views of the sunrise and sunset.
The staff were all very accommodating and would do anything for you, especially the lads on the bar; Dwayne, Rasheed, Joven, Romario, to mention a few. They all took pride in and joy in making our cocktails and also inventing their own to your specific taste. Dwayne even gave us dance lessons!
The food was all very tasty and although it was all inclusive we often had an a la carte menu for either lunch or dinner but you could order as much as you wanted.
The entertainment was good, especially on New Years Eve where the hotel put on an amazing gala evening with a fantastic spread of food of all types and the tables were all decorated to a very high standard. I would have been happy to have my wedding there! All the management and staff were keen to hear our opinions on the hotel as it was newly opened. I would definitely recommend The Sands.
We met some great people who made our stay fun and memorable. We'd love to go back tomorrow if we could!

Feel moved to review mainly based on the 1 star rating below. This is a lovely new hotel with friendly helpful staff , We stayed in a two bedroom ocean view suite as a family of five, clean well appointed and pleasantly but sparsely decorated. I think when reviewing its important to consider what market the the hotel is going for and what you have paid. An upper 4 or 5 star resort cost us double last year in the Maldives l, and we did struggle to initially not make comparisons , but its not really fair . The hotel was priced cheaper for our visit as it was still in a soft opening period, for those alarmed by previous reviews, building noise was practically nonexistent, we maybe heard a drill twice in 1 week.
The hotel is excellent value for money for what it offers, we had no problem securing sunbeds, although of course there is the human tendency to bag one early , the same as how everyone stands up on a plane, long before they can get out of the door! Food wise , we prefered the buffet and did find the a la carte portions small and a bit limited . There is another restaurant but it does not allow children under 12.
Good bits : Pool looks stylish , friendly helpful staff, great with kids, free snorkel gear and paddle boards etc , soft sand beach, small afternoon tea option
Areas to be improved : Portion sizes and options for a la carte , temporary marquees look a bit ugly , but I understand they are waiting on shipping containers of furniture to still be delivered. We had a lot of problems with the lock and keycard
All in all a great little hotel that ticked the box for a half term family holiday , although on that note would say the demographic is for the majority 50 years plus , apologies if our children disturbed the peace !

Well what can I say. Complete paradise. We stayed at The Sands hotel from Sept 18th – Oct 3rd 2021 and all I can say is I massively regret coming home. The sands is a beautiful hotel which I will be recommending to all my friends and family. The view is stunning, you are quite literally on the beach. The food is delicious with lots of variety including an a la carte restaurant which was just brilliant. Complete luxury on this amazing island which felt like home to me. What makes me feel this way above everything else is THE PEOPLE. Everyone we met in Barbados was so friendly, kind and welcoming, including everyone at The Sands. We were treated like Royalty. Everyone went above and beyond to make us happy including Isabelle who helped us move rooms (please note a super saver room does not have a balcony / window with any view), Keann who served us in the restaurants and made our holiday special with fantastic service every night, Akisha on front desk who was brilliant and definitely went above and beyond to help me, Charlene on front desk who always made us welcome and Cyrilene who welcomed us into the restaurant every day and made us laugh. The hotel is immaculate and the standards are very high. The entertainment was great with Mother Sally, Steel pan, DJs, Water Aerobics and water volley ball. All organised (I think) by the lovely Hermone. The only improvement I have to suggest is the Towel situation. No sunbeds should be allowed to be reserved and should just be taken off the beds as visitors do get up early to reserve them. Other than this, I am a very picky person and found everything perfect. The location is also brilliant little walk into St Lawrence Gap and short cab away from Pepples beach to swim with the horses in the morning. Loved every second of our stay and would do anything to be there now.

The Sands is a great a hotel, the room we had was very spacious and clean with great views out to the sea
Only down side is the living room area is not air conditioned. It has a fan, but does not keep it as cool so we ended up going to bed early as was too hot watching TV.
The food in the main restaurant was hit and miss, would love some more local type food rather than typical food like burger and chips.
The noir restaurant upstairs was alot better would definitely recommend eating there.
Best thing for me about the hotel is the staff they make you feel very welcome
Personal mention to tariq, Joshua, Owen, cyrline and Charlene at the front desk they were so helpful , friendly, funny and just amazing people that felt so genuine.
As for entertainment I do wish it had more of a Caribbean feel/vibe as I believe if you come to another country you should embrace the culture of the people i.e reggae or soca music around the hotel and restaurant area.
The beach was so beautiful clean and not full of people trying to sell you things ( one or two locals with jewellery to sell but not pushy at all).
We saw turtels while snorkeling which was great beach I would say was one of the best on the island as we rented a car and travelled around to multiple beaches.
The area around the hotel is great easy to catch buses around the island and St lawerence gap within walking distance.
All in all happy with our stay and would recommend staying if your thinking of possibly booking a trip here.

Well today is our last day here from a 10 day visit. We are going away disappointed. This is listed as an all inclusive hotel, however, we do not feel that this is the case, you have you 3 set meal times and there really is nothing else in between. Forget getting a coffee or tea before the breakfast opens without feeling like you are asking for the world. There is only one eating area and this caters for all 3 meals, when you have breakfast you have to book the times for when you want lunch and dinner that day! I don’t know at 730 when I am going to be ready for dinner! On more than one occasion we just didn’t bother going for the meal. The service at the eatery (I won’t call it a restaurant) is below standard, there are lots of staff but most of them don’t seem to know what they are doing, you either have 4 people filling your water glass at the same time or not showing up at all, and woe forbid if you ask for something! They pour you a coffee, you ask for sugar, they bring you sugar, you ask for milk, they bring you milk, you ask for a spoon, not once did we have all we needed especially at breakfast, it gets tiresome. Lunch and dinner are usually al a carte, so 3 choices for starter and dinner, occasionally they throw in a buffet but that is still usually about 3 choices
There’s a bar outside but I would say it’s a service area, they have to do the eatery orders as well as the other orders with only two behind it, they work extremely hard
THERE ISN’T ENOUGH tables outside of the eatery to sit and have a drink before and after eating, the only smoking area of the hotel, we had a torrential downpour one night during dinner, there was no where to go for cover!
The beach is beautiful and swimming in the sea takes your breath away every day with lots of turtles and when it’s low tide there is a reef that you can easily walk to, bring sea shoes if you are going to do that because it is a bit rocky but great experience
Our saving grace on this trip was the wonderful people that we met while we were there, without them I think it would have been very boring, we are so grateful for that
On the whole it’s a super clean hotel and very modern, the rooms only have AC in the bedrooms so are very hot elsewhere, it’s a quaint tucked away little place but just way too limited for us, if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday then this may be right up your street
Would I come back? No. It has great potential but it’s rather chaotic when a few changes would improve the conditions a great deal. I certainly would visit Barbados again, just not here

We just returned from 10 days at the Sands in beautiful Barbados
The resort looks exactly like the online photos. We are beach people and especially enjoyed the beach staff setting up our umbrella and chairs when we arrived each day. This system eliminates the problem at other resorts where palapas and seating becomes a war to see who can get up the earliest to reserve them. They are quite upfront that if you leave your loungers for longer than an hour or so your items will be removed. This was not an issue as it was not the least overcrowded when we were there. The beach is soft sand and beautiful with little or no seaweed. Beach was cleaned up the one day that seaweed did drift in. There is definitely some erosion of the beach, but this does not affect the quality and there is lots of space for all guests.
We had an Air Canada Signature room, which is called a Studio (I wanted to make sure this was not the supersaver room mentioned in other reviews). It is a fairly large room, though could use a little extra furniture; a couple of chairs and a footstool in the main area and a couple of chairs on the balcony would be nice as the only place to watch tv is from the bed. Appreciated that they had a wooden clothes dryer on the large balcony which eliminates everyone’s wet suits and towels hanging over the railings. There is a stovetop but no cooking utensils, so not sure of the purpose. Fridge was stocked with water daily. The room was very clean, and they offered us turndown service nightly. The bathroom is small but efficient.
Staff are really friendly and are constantly asking if you want or need anything.
Entertainment every evening some nights better than others. Lunches and dinners are a la carte with occasional buffet. There is a set menu with 3 options which varies daily. Additionally, there is a daily snack menu with hot dogs and burgers. Surf and Turf night was excellent. The Noir Restaurant was lovely, with excellent food and service; a beautiful spot to dine.
The hotel is currently following strict covid protocols, which was one of the reasons we chose this spot as our first vacation following the pandemic. Masks required unless dining or on the beach or at the pool.
The staff really does stand out at this spot – and though we always try and leave a small tip at the table after meals and for the cleaning staff daily we did notice that many guests do not show their appreciation this way. Give a little back folks. At home you would not think of eating without tipping.
We would definitely consider this lovely resort again.

We visited The Sands as we have stayed at its big sister hotel Mango Bay in Holetown 5 times before and opening offers are good. The set up at check in and in the restaurant and bars is unsurprisingly familiar as it is based on the Mango Bay experience.
The hotel still feels as though it is in its opening phase. There are some issues with housekeeping i.e. no towels left in our rooms on two days and beds incorrectly made up. Also some of the staff lack experience and there could be more management guidance. At the moment there are just enough sun beds but if you want one round the pool then it’s an early start (7am) to reserve one. There could be a lot more beds around the pool without spoiling the ambience.
There are some stand out staff who really make a difference to your holiday. Shanice in the restaurant and Shaquille and Raheem in the bar were brilliant. All of the team in the rooftop Noir restaurant are first class.
The rooms are large and will benefit in time from more creative touches e.g. some art work. Again cleaning standards need to be improved. Our showers were not cleaned properly during our 8 day stay.
The restaurant works well with good varied local food if not quite at the standard of Mango Bay (but equally not the cost!). The beach is lovely and having a reef just off shore makes snorkelling great fun. We saw Green Turtles, Puffer fish, Squid and many more amazing creatures. The beach team are friendly and helpful.
Overall we had a great week. We visited Mango Bay one evening and it is looking tired. The pool is in desperate need of repair so it is clear that most of the current investment is going to The Sands.
If The Sands remains competitive we would definitely stay again. The team are great and hopefully the teething issues will soon be resolved. Thanks to all for a very happy holiday

WARNING Potential Virgin Customers. We went to The Sands back in January 2020 without realising what a SUPERSAVER room was . It is shameful that Virgin are still selling these rooms after us and other people complained and also the hotel management didn’t care either. To fill you in the room was was no more than a small basic motel room , bathroom no bigger than a caravan and the description of internal corridor is American but it is simply an adjoining room to your neighbours and you can hear everything going on in the other room even hear a pin drop so u can imagine how horrendous the holiday was that cost us thousands of pounds each. Do not book this style of room I can’t stress enough it’s just terrible . The staff are useless and the service non existent. Some evenings the food was horrible and it took 4 hours to have a meal served to us . Bar closed at 10.30pm and no other drinks were served after that and the whole resort went dead . Trust me do not waste your money on this resort .
