La Carolina is a bit of heaven located at the end of a really rocky road. The accommodations, the land, and most of all the people who work there are all pure from the heart. It's the kind of place you want to tell everyone about, but then you think again and tell only a precious few.
I have been to the Lodge 5 times in the last 8 years or so and have found it to be the perfect getaway spot to unwind. The owners and staff are lovely, the property is amazing, and every meal is lovingly prepared and delicious 'typico' fare. If you need a little break from the heat and bustle of the beach while visiting Costa Rica, or are just looking for a little nature inspired serenity - this is the place! Pura Vida indeed!
Lovely natural beauty, privacy, delicious food at every meal. We loved our riverside cabin- mosquito nets and deck woodstove were key features we didn't know we wanted! Staff is helpful when asked but respect your privacy. We hiked around the property daily without a guide- birds, sloths, tree frogs and beautiful views especially from the fishing lake. We fished and the kitchen cooked up the catch that night. The road to the lodge is unpaved and VERY rough so we didn't go in and out a lot. Be forewarned the staff speaks Spanish - not much English spoken here. However the main guy for check in and out - Yon speaks English and is the nicest! Everyone on staff was very kind and helpful. LOVED our stay here and would return and recommend to others.
I got a chance to to go Carolina Lodge three times over my stay in Costa Rica. It was definitely one of the most memorial places I visited. The entire experience was amazing! Getting to sleep in a clean yet rustic cabin in the jungle was a real treat. The grounds were lush and there was many areas to explore hiking or on horse back. All the staff were extremely friendly and hospitable. The owners were also very friendly and inviting people who I had lots of great conversations with over my stay. If you're looking to experience the mountain jungles and be around local cooking, atmosphere, great people and tons of nature. I highly recommend this place to anyone! I will definitely be going back!
We have lived in CR since August 2020. We visited La Carolina Lodge for the first time in December 2020. We just returned from our 6th visit last week (6 months later). We were all enchanted by the place within 5 minutes of arriving the first time. It's a rustic but clean, no frills piece of paradise. There is nothing about it we don't love. From the ethereal jungle setting to the excellent farm-to-table food (I think Bill told me that 80% of what we ate and drank was grown on site); from the fire heated hot tubs to the beautifully simple but comfortable cabins. It's all just heavenly. Every visitor we've had has been taken to see it and it is invariably their favourite place in CR. You can find similarly extraordinary places in CR (the country is full of insanely beautiful places) but not for this price and, in our experience, not this imbibed with soul. Don't come here if you require perfect WiFi, if you want a/c in every room (you don't need it) or if you like high luxury. If you like beautiful, natural, no frills perfection, I couldn't recommend it highly enough. …
