Bill and Karien are the two most wonderful owner/host of this farm, with cows, horses and their own hiking trails. We have our own lodge with outdoor seating in front of a fireplace. Their hot tub is not treated with chemicals and next to the river for a short quick dip between hot times. The meals they provide 3 times...

We went here as a couple and despite almost continuous rain we loved every minute. The owner, Bill, is incredibly committed and always ready to find a sloth for you, a funny anecdote or a rainy day activity. The bird feeder in the garden is constantly teeming with the most beautiful birds and worth a visit itself. Our only disappointment...

Great place to stay, great staff, lots to do right there or just relax. There is a hot tub next to the river, each lodge is separate and our had a fireplace in the room and on our porch. Meals were served next to a garden with exotic birds and flowers. There's a farm and one hour hike on the...

What a special place this is! Rustic but comfortable cabins nestled along a rushing river in the midst of a forest at the base of two beautiful volcanoes. The owners, Bill and Karin, are kind and attentive hosts who are mindful not only of their guests' needs but the lodge's economic and environmental impact on the small, rural community it...

6 Kms after Bijagua on the main road from Canas to Upala (excellent road surface), then a 5 kms rough track (watch out for road indications) bring you to this lodge, situated in lush Costa Rica country side. The sound of the nearby river, the song of uncountable birds, are perfectly soporific for restful sleeping. Wonderful hosts, rustic cabins, abundant...

This is not your average lodge stay; from the beautiful mountaintop surroundings, the organic farm to table meals prepared with love by the charming staff (like a home cooked meal from your grandmother), to the natural water hot tub, horse back riding and hiking, it is truly a getaway. Sip wine while sitting in rocking chairs on the front candle...

This is a special place - charming cabins set in a lush environment complete with all kinds of birds and other wildlife, delicious and healthy meals, close to the national park, and other trails on and off property. Come here to get refreshed - do nothing or hike/swim in the raging river/ride horses. Forget about trying to get wi-fi but...

This place is charming. Minimal electricity, 3 meals served from scratch, amazing sight seeing at the near by Tenorio National Park, excellent guide- Alejandro. He will even stop at a coffee and cacao plantation near by where you can buy very inexpensive FRESH coffee and cacao powder. A very special place if you like the sort of thing listed above....

La Carolina lodge is the most beautiful place my husband and I have visited on our two- (6 week at a time) visits to Costa Rica. The staff is the best, I challenge you to find better anywhere. Accommodations are "actually it is hard to find the right word". All I can say that there are times I was overwhelmed....

My husband and I brought our two kids, ages 9 and 15, and my MIL, age 79, for a two night getaway. We are in CR for 6 1/2 months and have had 7+ people recommend this place and it did not disappoint. We had a great time hiking around the property, riding horses, milking cows, feeding the pigs, enjoying...
