The staff at this resort are second to none. Amazing and friendly service. The rooms were a good size however we did have a problem with ants in the bathroom. the maid would clean and an hour later the bathroom was crawling with red ants again. Beds were pretty standard for Cuba, and luckily we did not get stuck with flat pillow. Unfortunately there were no extra blankets in the room (a lot of resorts have a spare in the closet), so we were each stuck with a sheet and a thin blanket. Our room was close to the beach which was nice, as I could sit out on the terrace, drink coffee and watch the waves. The beach was groomed regularly but due to the winds a lot of the sand had swept away and you would end up walking on stone in some spots. The ocean water was crystal clear however it was not deep at all. My group and I walked as far as we could before running the risk of being hit by a kitesurfer and the water never got deeper than our knees. This is great if you have small children, but for us adults, we missed out on being able to actually swim in the ocean. The pool was clean and lots of lounge chairs available. they did have a foam party one day but the machine broke before they could actually get foam onto the pool, so that was disappointing as I had always wanted to be at a resort during a foam party. The food was meh! I have been to Cuba 17 times and this was one of the worst as far as food options. The variety was lacking. We ate the same thing day after day and even that was slim pickings. We couldn't get into the a la cartes as they were always booked up. On the positive side, the resort staff are always checking in with guests to get feedback on their experience and work hard to rectify any issues. The entertainment team also adjusted the location of their activities due to cold weather - they literally brought the party to the people. If everyone was in the lobby having drinks, that's where they would set up games and dancing to keep everyone entertained, which was awesome. The people at the resort, both guests and staff made our vacation as good as it way. Needless to say due a couple factors mentioned above, I will not likely to return. I think if more food options were available and the beach was a bit nicer and the water swimmable, this place would be a great place to go in Cayo Guillermo.

I’m late in doing this review. Trip was during the first 2 weeks of February, 2020. Travelled as a couple. Weather was good, warm enough and dry, but you have to love the wind if you stay in the Cayos. Some nights the wind was blowing right through to the lobby bar area and also through the theatre. If you have rain on top of that (which we did not) you would be heading to your room for shelter. Obviously, the wind is why this is a great kite surfing spot. We only had about 3 days when there was no wind. Didn’t find mosquitoes or sand flies an issue but again it was windy. I had always avoided this resort previously due to ratings/reviews but noticed a big change in the reviews over the last year. Been to Cuba numerous times so know what to expect. We gave it a try and were very happy with our choice. A lot of comments in the reviews spoke about the new management and how they interact with guests, listening for comments on how to improve the hotel and assisting with issues identified by guests. Well this is what made this resort very different from most of the resorts we have stayed at in Cuba. These managers (from GM’s, supervisors at front desk, reservations and restaurant) were all willing to listen and assist where they could. We noticed a number of changes to the positive during our stay. All the service staff were friendly and seem to do whatever they could to accommodate any request. Our room was located in a concrete bungalow located behind the theater. This location was good for being central. The room was bright, good lighting day and night and had a new bed and fridge (although not stocked). The use of safety deposit box was included. We had a small view of the ocean, due to a number of bungalows in front of us, but we never sat outside on terrace anyway. We booked a standard room so were not expecting to be down near the ocean. However, do note that there are a number of accommodations that are even further back on the property so these accommodations would have no ocean view. The bathroom had open slats in the window so we used duct tape and a plastic bag (brought with us) to cover the slats to prevent mosquitos from coming in and always left the bathroom door closed. This kept out any bugs. Water pressure unfortunately was extremely poor even after having it checked out by maintenance. However, the water that we did have was hot when needed which was good. Our air conditioner had problems as did many of the other rooms. It was fixed and worked well, thanks again to the management. I have to say we arrived late at night, 11:30 p.m. and at first were not very impressed with our room. However, after a day being there, we were quite happy staying in that room. Never an issue getting clean towels, water or toilet paper. The food at this resort was better than most 3- 3 ½ star resorts. Sometimes there were long lines for cooking stations but there was always something else in the trays you could choose from. Alex the manager always ensured the dining room ran smoothly. The food at the a la cartes was hit and miss, but at least a change from the buffet, we at them 6 times during our 2 weeks stay. The pizza at the Italian a la carte was definitely good and hot. Hopefully management has placed soap dispensers (or soap) and some time of hand dryer in the a la carte restaurant bathrooms. There was no soap during any of our visits to the venue that hosted the a la carte dinners. The snack bar by the pool served hamburgers, sandwiches, French fries etc. (and pig roast one day) which was open around lunch time and throughout the afternoon. There were some line up issues here but these seemed to get resolved by having more staff working the peak times. The drinks were also good; however, having enough glasses available at the lobby bar was always an issue. Spanish coffees and mojitos were always our favourite drinks. We spent most of our time at the beach. For the first week getting a chair wasn’t an issue down at the beach. The next week a little difficult but you could find something. Just depends on how many groups are holding chairs. Never a problem getting beach towels changed. Just an fyi, there is no beach bar or beach service so you have to make your way back to pool bar when you want a drink. Certainly didn’t expect either of these services since it is a 3- 3 ½ star resort. The beach is wide and long. It’s already been noted that the best time to have any depth to the water is at high tide, or travel left or right down the beach and go for a swim. You can easily walk the length of the beach to the Gran Muthu Hotel which takes about 45 minutes. During your beach walk there is a bank at the Iberostar which gives a bit better rate than this hotel; however, it was a lot more convenient exchanging money at the front desk of this hotel. The entertainment was good as is the case with most resorts in Cuba. However, there was barely anything happening entertainment wise down at the beach during our 2 weeks stay. Would have enjoyed a Zumba class down there. Instead it took place under the theatre roof. Whenever I walked by the pool area to the restrooms there seemed to be a few entertainment activities going on throughout the day. Most evenings there was entertainment in the lobby bar, or just outside of that area followed by a theatre show. We were there for 2 weeks and unfortunately missed the water ballet show as it was on our last night leaving. I would definitely recommend this hotel as long as you like a smaller older resort. We would like to thank everyone at Gran Caribe Club Cayo Guillermo for their hospitality and service and we look forward to another visit in the future, hopefully, in the not too distant future.

We were extremely surprised upon arrival when the manager and a few staff members met us as we were getting off the bus, and right away we were swept up in a world of relaxation and comfort. From the minute we got there, to the minute we left, staff and managers took such good care of us. Caesar was the first to introduce himself to us, he is quite the attentive manager and makes sure everything is to a guests liking on a daily basis. From there, Nildrey took such awesome care of my little girl and let her have the time of her life all week long. The cooks and the waiters to the entertainers and the bar staff, everyone smiled and made you feel at home. We were personally made churros everyday and they were delivered to us personally because i told the chef that I like them. We were placed in a beautiful 1 bedroom suite that was equal distance between pool and beach. Food was always good and service was always amazing. This resort will always have a special place in our heart. We can't thank you all enough. Special thanks go to Sandor, Caesar, Alex, Rammary, Nildrey, Norje(cook), Jeremiah (chef), Jorge the entertainer, and Julie who took such fabulous care of us. We can't wait to go back again and see everyone, they became like family while we were there. I write up reviews on my blog, feel free to check the review I wrote and the pics I added. Thanks Caesar and Gran Caribe for the most beautiful and wonderful week, we will never forget you!!!

We were here the first two weeks of March 2020. The staff at this resort went above and beyond our expectations. There wasn't a day that the two managers, Nicer and Alex, and the General Manager didn't come and ask us how everything was and if there was anything that they we needed. All their staff were incredible, can’t remember all their names but Hector at the bar was always quick at trying to figure out what drink I was describing. Diana in the restaurant made sure we were well taken care of everyday. Jordan (Yoyi) in customer service was checking in with us as well to make sure everything was good, and if we did need something he was on it right away. Even the gardener that was outside every morning, stopped what he was doing and came over to say hello and wish us a good day. The beach was really nice, it stayed shallow, up to my knees, very hundreds of feet which made Kite surfing very popular. I think for families with young children it would be ideal. Though we had some windy days, overall the beaches were great and not crowded. This only being my 2nd trip to Cuba, it was a very memorable time. The first visit I stayed at a 4 star resort, lovely place and great staff as well, but I don't remember receiving such attention from everyone, only a couple of staff stood out. Here at this resort you are the one that stands out to them, this may be a 3 star resort but you are treated like you are a 5 star patron. I definitely would go back here if we return to Guillermo.
