Divi Southwinds Beach Resort is often praised for its welcoming atmosphere, complete with music events and beach amenities that guests find inviting. The hotel's cleanliness is lauded, with travelers noting spotless rooms and pristine pools, although the charm is slightly marred by dated decor. Its prime location offers a serene yet convenient escape near beaches and local attractions. Reviewers appreciate the value and the range of amenities, including cooking facilities and multiple pools, despite some minor issues with water pressure. While service is generally celebrated for its warmth and efficiency, a few travelers have experienced lapses.

Excellent holiday , Hotel , accommodation and location. Our room wasn’t ready on arrival and we waited about 2 hours to be allocated a room , the front desk staff kept us updated all the time and upgraded us to a penthouse and credited us $90 for the inconvenience . There were no other issues throughout the holiday . The pool was a good size and very clean . The dining facilities next to the beach were great . The staff took a genuine interest in the guests and would go out of the way to help you . I’d definitely go back .

First room allocated was depressing, dark and nothing like the website pictures. I asked to move rooms but was told “the hotel is full” however when I offered to pay extra a room became available!

We had a problem with the air-conditioning unit in the second room and had no AC for 24 hours. The reception staff were helpful and always friendly with getting it fixed but everything just takes so long.

Beach bar staff rather unhelpful and unfriendly compared to the lovely reception staff. No beach service at all. I was refused a drink at the beach bar on our first day because I didn’t have a face mask on (On the beach, in the sand, in the open air). Many staff had their masks under their chin (don’t blame them in this heat) so they shouldn’t refuse to serve guests in a covid safe environment. I saw the same guy serving other people with no masks so maybe he just decides on the day! I asked for a beach umbrella to be told “they are not usually provided” despite two large groups of Americans getting them every day. I was sent off to look for “the Rasta by the pool” to try to get an umbrella but nowhere to be found so we gave up. just felt very unwelcome and almost an imposition to the staff who just don’t seem to value customers or have any grasp on customer service. It took over an hour to get a club sandwich on the one occasion we attempted to eat on the beach. One would have hoped that the last 20 months had changed peoples attitudes in a country that relies so heavily on tourism but clearly that was optimistic! It was as if the hotel reception staff and the beach restaurant team have totally different attitudes, perhaps they are not the same company.

St Lawrence Gap area is rather run down and very quiet. There are a handful of restaurants but almost all were fully booked in the week around New Year so the few that are open after Covid are clearly doing well. (Highly recommend Primo bistro). All the locals we met were absolutely wonderful. The beach is lovely and we had the unexpected honour of watching a nest of baby turtles hatch very close to our sun loungers!

Unfortunately there was nowhere in the area to go for afternoon coffee and it just doesn’t seem geared up for visitors. Maybe it was different pre covid. we probably wouldn’t rush to return to Divi or St Lawrence Gap and will hopefully return to Barbados when we have the budget for Sandy Lane!

The hotel is really an apartment hotel with full self-catering facilities in your room. We found the room great and roomy and ended up making our own breakfasts & snacks.

Location is great just close to the beach and right in the middle of the St Lawrence Gap area, so loads of bars/restaurants to walk to locally. This is probably just as well as the bar/restaurant on site are not great and devoid of atmosphere. The only time it gets going is the Tuesday evening Manager's Cocktail Hour, which was nice.

The pools are fine and golf and croquet is available. The grounds are OK but no real shade apart from a very limited area around the main pool. The beach area is much better with a great beach, shade from trees and enough sunbeds/umbrellas. Sea can be a bit rough but not dangerous.

Final comment would be on staff, which is generally mixed. Some fine, others didn't really acknowledge you as a guest. The cleaning service was also hit & miss - staff coming to service your room at 6pm is really not great

We stayed at divi south winds for a 2 week holiday

It was a bit last minute as our other holidays had been cancelled due to covid and was booked 10 days prior to arrival so didn’t really do my usual research before booking the hotel.

Was very annoyed to find upon arrival that both restaurants on site were closed and due to quarantine for the first 24hours until results were received we were literally stuck for food we had to buy some bread and butter and cereal from the shop on site to feed us and the 2 kids

The play park is closed on site so my youngest couldnt play there but the small golf course baskets ball court and tennis courts were open and they had a great time on those.

Other than the fact there is no food on site and very few bars and restaurants open on the gap( can imagine pre covid the gap would be thriving) pure ocean restaurant opened up towards the end of our stay and we’ll I’ve gotta say the breakfast and lunch menu they offer is lovely big shout out to the chefs there they can cook

the hotel is lovely although the sofa beds could do with some extra cushioning it’s clean and welcoming

staff are really friendly and nothing is too much for them.

Beach is absolutely spectacular and is by far one of the best we visited. Watch out for the seaweed you can see it coming in from far off in the ocean but make sure your out the water before it hits because it’s a lot.

Keep eyes open for the turtles too travelling from the sand to the water very special to watch

We visited Divi for our honeymoon and it could not have been more perfect. The room we requested (ground level) we immediately received and were welcomed with rum punches to our room. There were 3 pools to choose from and MANY beach chair available at all (including the beach). I have never seen happier staff - Junior, who maintains the grounds sings Bob Marley every morning while cleaning the pool. The real super stars were Gail and Ingrid K at the front desk. While their service was amazing their level of maintaining their guest's interests and security is paramount. We received HORRIBLE service at a local restaurant Champers (please see my other reviews but do not visit), and this restaurant continued to harass us by calling Divi multiple times over 24 hours day and night. Sensing this was a security threat, Gail and Ingrid maintained our confidentiality and did not give out any of our personal information and had their guests (us) interests all times. We will be back to visit, amazing experience each and every time.

We stayed here whilst in Barbados for our wedding/ honeymoon.
On arrival, we were upgraded due to arriving holding a wedding dress box!

The staff were absolutely wonderful throughout our stay, we even came back on our wedding day to a bottle of fizz in our suite.

The grounds were well maintained and the facilities were brilliant, numerous pools and a fantastic restaurant/ beach bar.

The location was close enough to walk to a range of bars and restaurants but due to the hotel being set back from the road, we had no issues with any noise.

We will 100% be coming back and staying again.

We own a timeshare @ Divi Southwinds so are very familiar with the property and knew what to expect. It had been almost two years since we were there last but property continues to be extremely well maintained and it was nice to see that all of the room renovations have been completed. My wife and I are fairly low maintenance travellers but the resort staff were always willing and able to accommodate. Travelling during the covid pandemic was very different from everything we have experienced but that said the process they have in Barbados is fairly effective and as long as you listen to and follow instructions the experience can go very smoothly. The island, resort and beach are very quiet compared to what we are used to but considering we just needed to get away and be on the beach, the environment suited us just fine. Once you get acquainted with what is and is not open (some business and restaurants are still on reduced hours due to low demand) you can find everything you need.

Stayed here for a week with my wife and 2 kids. We had a PH room which was perfect for us. Lounge and kitchen downstairs and the bedrooms upstairs.
The pool is quite small but very well maintained. The beach is a wonderful spot. Quite quiet compared to others up the coast. The Pure Ocean restaurant on the beach was lovely for lunch and handy for drinks while on the beach.
Staff were all very friendly and professional.
A couple of things lost it a star.
The restaurant is not open in the evenings. Such a waste as would be a lovely spot to dine in the evening. Thus, for drinks you have to go to the pool bar. This closed at 9pm which seems far too early.
On our last day we were flying at 8pm so we asked if we could have a room to shower in. My wife asked at 7am, and I enquired at 11 when we checked out. Both times we were assured we could have one and just come and ask for a key when we wanted to use it. At 3.30pm my wife asked only to be told the hotel was full and there were no rooms available!! They would of known this to be the case when we asked in the morning, so they were either lying then, or just didn't want us to have one in the afternoon. Had to shower by the pool so was an annoying end to the holiday.
Overall, this was a lovely week and a great base for the cricket which we attended for 2 days.

Although we had a rough start to our vacation due to a COVID cluster in Barbados and ended up staying in the hotel for 10 days instead of 5 in full quarantine confined to our rooms.
The staff at Divi South winds made sure our stay was exceptional. From checking on us daily via phone calls, the many food deliveries, the daily stocking up of supplies and clean towels etc. They made us feel very special and it helped us to cope mentally with the situation.
Thanks so much for caring. A special shout out to Ingrid Kellman, who left us in stitches, Wanda Maynard you certainly saved the day for us and all the others Tyrone, Kerri from housekeeping ,
Last but not least Heather Knights who arranged my booking, never got to meet you but you thanks for your professionalism, you all are the BEST!!

Better than expected , to avoid repeated details I will summarise the top points and then try to detail an alternate perspective for future guests, stuff I would have liked to know about.

Positioning is excellent, huge well kept gardens (the staff work tirelessly) pools x 3 always well kept, clean functioning rooms with very comfy big bed, good a/c and big fridge/freezer. We were b&b which as included was great but to pay £30pp per day is stretching it a bit for what was offered. Don’t leave anything unattended at the table including drinks as the birds are like flying ninjas.

Hotel location is 15 mins from airport by car, to get around the transport is readily available, no real need to hire a car as can use the bus for about £1.30 a trip no matter how far you go. So many places of interest to see/experience so be brave just go.

The rooms come with built in ice maker, kettle , coffee percolator, there is an are pay as you go laundry facilities on site. Hairdryer is adequate and iron provided too . There was no sharp knife which would have been
useful.

There was an issue with sunbeds being reserved on the beach by backhanders from guests but this was observed to be dealt with by
staff .

The food we had was very nice from the restaurant but it took way way too long to arrive. Such as shame because it was very tasty when it eventually turned up , yes it’s cooked to order, yes it’s Barbados but come on 90 min wait for burger and fries. We would have chosen to dine there at night but the wait put us off, there seems to be a disproportionate number of waiting staff to cooking staff.
Our top recommendation for dining is harlequins a 5 min stroll down the gap. Forget paying ££££ at the cliffs or tides this place matches on all fronts. Enjoy
