My mother and I spent 4 nights at Villa Las Brujas in July 2019 and enjoyed our stay. We had a very spacious room on the first floor with a sea view which made our stay on our balcony very pleasant. We were close to the restaurant, the beach and the réception. Julian (not sure of the spelling) was very helpful and did everything he could to make our stay comfortable. The main problem was the food there as our stay was full board and the menu choice was extremely limited. If we had wanted to eat something different we would have had to pay which defeats the purpose of full board. Breakfast buffet was offered if there was more than 25 clients ☹️. Note that ETECSA WiFi cards do not work on the premises. You have to ask reception to give you the hotel WiFi code to get 1 hour free per Day. This was not give to us until the second day. During weekends, the place is very crowded by large families who come there to enjoy the beach.

This place has potential, but needs some serious and urgent TLC! Rooms are large, most with a nice view of the turquoise waters, but they seem not to have seen any maintenance since the place opened. There is a restaurant, with reasonable food and good wines, but there is nothing else around. Except for one of the restaurant staff, all other staff seem as tired as the place itself😉. The Gaviota marina is next door, which is excellent for diving and other water excursions.

We were looking for a place with a beautiful beach, great snorkelling access, privacy, and relaxation. We found it all here and stayed for 5 days! There is only one place to eat here at the Villa, but it was fine. There is also a snack-bar at the marina, open during the day. The staff in the restaurant and in the reception area were friendly and helpful. WiFi is limited to the reception area; it did work most of the time. We walked to the marina to take part in snorkelling excursions. We also snorkelled from the beach; there is good coral directly below the restaurant and cabinas. Our cabina was clean, spacious, and everything worked fine. It overlooked the sea and we enjoyed our very private balcony. We definitely recommend paying the extra few CUCs to secure a sea-side room. We loved the 2-km long, virtually empty beach, and the tranquility of this location, away from the massive all-inclusives that occupy the cayos further north.

This is the only not all included Hotel around Cayo Santa Maria and the views of the rooms (only half of them) are perfect, just 3 m away from the water. As all Cuban state owned business, the maintenance on the hotel for the last decades has been non existent. The Hotel has a private beach and you can get drinks from the Hotel's Restaurant (There's a Beach Bar, but seems that has been closed for ages). The Hotel is located next to the Marina where you can go Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Fishing, etc. Regarding the service, as most of Cuban state restaurants/hotels is poor and normally has the 30% of the products listed on the menu. Also take into account that the Hotel is isolated, so you would have to pay 15 CUC Taxi to get there from Cayo Santa Maria Viazul Station, as the Panoramic Bus that covers Cayo Ensenachos and Cayo Santa Maria don't get there. Once there, if you want to go to Cayo Santa Maria you can go to the Marina Car Park and ask the bus drivers of Gaviota that have taken clients from others Hotels to the Marina activities if they can drop you at the Viazul Station or any other point, in that case you should have to give them 1-2 CUC per person. ATM: The Hotel does not accept credit/debit cards and the only ATM in the 3 Cayos in next to the Cayo Santa Maria Medical Center.

Never ever will I come to this "hotel", nor I dare to recommend. We saw a rat in our room! Do I need to say anything else? The staff is very rude. No matter the fact that there were available rooms for check-in, they still made everybody wait till 4 p.m. I am not even mentioning the fact that they didn't care to disinfect the reception from mosquitoes and they eat you alive when you are talking to the staff or trying to access Internet (Internet connection is only at the reception). The food at the restaurant is very mediocre. And it is the only option for the kilometers around. The hotel is based in a very secluded area, which is nice on one hand but is restrictive on the other hand.

Villa Las Brujas was a pleasant surprise. It is one of the few hotels that is not an all-inclusive (and much less expensive) on the northern chain of cayos commonly referred to as Cayos Santa Maria. It is located on a beautiful stretch of beach, prefect for long beach walks or just relaxing in one of the lounge chairs. It also sits adjacent the only marina in the area, and made it very convenient for us to join the scuba outfitter for some great dives. The hotels runs on a lean staff, but all employees were quite pleasant to interact with and helpful in any needs we had. The restaurant food was also better than other reviews suggest; we were satisfied with our options for the three days we were there and they were reasonably priced. Built in the late 1990s, the hotel did reveal some wear and tear, but compared to other places we stayed in Cuba over a span of 30 days, it was not bad. If diving and beach walks are what bring you to the Cayos, this is a good option. The Viazul bus will stop at the hotel both arriving and departing which makes it very convenient. There is NO Hop On-Off bus that stops at the hotel and it will cost about 15CUC one way to Cayos Santa Maria. Most people stay at Cayo Las Brujas for their entire stay. We booked the room through Cubaism that provided us a voucher and we had no problems with our stay.

The houses are clean and comfortable. The food was okey but without any finess. The beach was secluded and excellent for long walks. But the service of the hotel was the worst. There was no interest in helping you as a guest or even answer simple questions. One of the receptionists was better than the other. You are stranded without any shops, services and the wifi only worked sometimes. Do yourself a favor and choose another resort.

This is a badly maintained resort- poorly managed and serviced. The wooden walkways were full of protruding nails, broken and uneven boards. From the 21 available rooms/cabins, 12 are sea view and the rest are in a garbage ridden forest. We had two of these 'standard' rooms. The forest cover was very light in front of our balconies which were only 3 metres away from main walkway and at the rear, the cabins were only 4 metres away from the car park, we could hear people or buses and cars all the time (the workers left at midnight and arrived quite early) from both sides (there were gaps between the window and door frames) No bath mats were provided (I asked twice for the bath mats). No toiletries apart from used soaps (which we had to complain to get changed) were given. we did have a towel rail and shower curtain. There were no bath plugs in either rooms but more surprisingly there were no taps in the bath. The TVs were not working/tuned- we learnt how to do it ourselves as the staff couldn't help. Curtains were not hung properly or not of correct size. Inside and outside the furniture cushions were stained and dirty. The beach is open to local people and gets very crowded and dirty. So grab your space and deckchairs (many are broken) as soon as you can. Although we saw good quality deck chairs on two of the unused walkways towards the Marina, why these were not given out is a mystery. The jacuzzi is under repair, sitting amongst a pile of cement and pieces of timber with upturned nails. Hygiene is very poor. I was very ill after eating chicken at the restaurant. I stayed in my room without eating for an entire day (and trying to get toilet paper). One of the cleaners used a dirty towel to cleaning the coffee cups and pot in our room. Our bathroom had large brown cockroaches. My older son's room was never cleaned during stay- the rule was that if you were not around, the staff did not enter because apparently they don't have spare keys. Stray dogs were sleeping on his patio- good if you like that sort of thing. Upon entering the room, I found that the towel rail was missing, there was an exposed switch, no toilet paper and the ceiling plaster appeared to be falling down. While I was waiting for the manager to come, I heard a thunderous noise and realised that our overhead tank had started leaking into the forest outside. Water was coming into the bathroom as well. The manager took photos on his phone and then a handyman came with a ladder. Having failed to stop the leak, the handyman went back to get some duct tape to seal the pipes but even so, water continued to drizzle for the three days that we stayed there (and made the toilet paper soggy). Apparently as these repairs could only be done as long as I was in the room, I had to stay there for 3 hours that first evening, completely missing on going to the beach. They gave us a complimentary dinner that night. We had a thunderstorm on the second day and water was again leaking into the bathroom. The AC was leaking water- probably due to the air filter being dirty, partially blocked or completely clogged. I put our bath towels to soak up that water and after awhile the cleaner came to wipe it off. The first night, I itched continually. I discovered the next morning that this was due to ant path via my bed and so I pulled the bed away from the wall. However, as the bed was sloping due to a broken leg, I continued to sleep poorly. Next to my bed was an exposed switch which was dangerous. I asked for this to be rectified immediately, otherwise I would leave. The handyman brought in all manner of plastic covers and then finally found a suitable one which he just about managed to cover the hole. However, the screws he used were still sticking out, so I asked for this to be covered with duct tape. Really how do they give such dangerous rooms to people? The bath was cracked and dirty. We had to put the toilet seat cover down to use for our clothes because of the non existent towel rail, taking care to avoid the roof leak near it. While using the bath, I realised that the shower curtain rail was a broom stick just held up by the top lip of the bathroom tiles pointing. While drawing it, it proceeded to fall, nearly hitting me. I called the reception to ask for the broomstick to be put back up, the handyman came quickly to do that. However, after he left I discovered that he had only put in some of the hooks on the broom stick and so it needed to be redone. But this action took two hours and two calls to achieve and only then I could have my shower. The toilet flush was not properly attached and had to be readjusted after each flush by taking it off and inserting it again. Our room apparently all ready, did not have toilet paper when we arrived which took another hour to be given. During our stay, we had to complain several times to get more toilet paper. I was informed that many people were checking out and so the maid would bring the paper once they'd finished, so I used my own paper.

The 'resort' has 24 cabins which are all really private. The rooms are huge and have everything you need. If you want a shiny new room this is not the place for you. But if you don't mind that the rooms could use some fresh paint it really is good value for your money. The restaurant on the other hand isn't really worthwhile visiting. The food is okay but lunch and dinner are the same menu and there is just not a lot of choice. So if you are staying here for a longer period you might have to look for other places to eat.
