Malambe camp was our charming home on Lake Malawi for a few days. Lodging is basic, but suitable for the price. Some of the tents zippers are not working, but safety of your belongings is not in question. Very basic but charming straw chalets are very recommendable, comfort and price wise. Staff is jolly and friendly, food tasty and recommendable.... More

Our son-in-law arranged for us to stay here in beach hut. The hut just had space for a double bed. Mosquito net supplied. But it was enough. What mattered was the 5m walk across the sand to the waters edge. Fantastic location, food was really good value, and better than some of the more expensive places to eat. Very friendly... More

This place is very good value for money. The huts are right by the beach, you can literally roll out of bed into the sea. It's also in a good location for bars and restaurants. The food at the lodge is also good value but like most of Malawi does take a long time to appear, around an hours wait.... More

This camp is in a wonderful location on the beach. It is super-basic, think small reed hut bed and mosquito net, but let's be honest, what more do you need? You'll be spending all your time outdoors anyway.... There is a really laid back feel to this place and all the staff are very sweet. They'll even give you some... More

£5 a night for a beach hut with a double bed and Mosquito net. Small but perfect and with own padlock and key. Staff, especially Chico were really great! Including when I came into some difficulty with the tour association. Staff have friends who hang out here too and they are always inviting you out to join them. Showers were... More

the dorm i stayed in was awesome, the place itself had a great atmosfere and I was simply loving it. The mountains of cereal for breakfast were also a very nice pro. Dinner was dayfresh fish (at least for me) or good pastas. Tracey, the owner, is also a good person that is always willing to help with anything

In general I had a nice stay at Cape Maclear at this place. The food was good for a reasonable price. Staff was friendly and even with the owner not around for the whole week things went smoothly. I would like them to let less people on to the property that try to sell you stuff like paintings, key chains... More

My boyfriend and I love Malambe. We go about 2-3x a year and every time the rooms are clean and the grounds beautiful. The food is at an awesome price and tastes great with big portions and is served pretty quickly! The bar also has a good selection very well priced comparing to surrounding areas. This is one of the... More

Good value for money in stunning Cape Maclear. Average accommodation and food but good atmosphere at the bar and a great place to meet other travelers. Would stay there again. You can rent bicycles which is a great way of exploring the area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cape Maclear's funkiest backpacker lodge, situated on the sandy shores of Lake Malawi Description Malambe (Chichewa for baobab) is situated on the sandy beach of Lake Malawi right in the heart of Cape Maclear and offers camping, beach hut and dorm accommodation at great prices. We have a cool bar overlooking the lake towards Thumbe Island serving all drinks (ice cold of course) and a restaurant serving breakfast lunch and dinner. For those who wish to self cater - our large spotlessly clean kitchen is fully equipped with all that is needed to cook up a delicious dinner. The village market is a short walk away and has all that you would expect to find in a local market. Watch out for the early morning fisherman as they come in with their catches - a variety of fresh fish which is great for the BBQ. Malambe is also trying to be environmentally friendly and uses solar power for hot water and for some lighting. Other services at Malambe include wifi internet access, laundry, boat trips, village tours and free use of snorkelling equipment. Be warned - those who stay find it very hard to leave! ... more   less
