The lodge is situated directly on the sandy beach front of Lake Malawi. It is easily the most attractive lodge on this part of the lake with thatched roof cottages facing lawned gardens with shady trees and a small pool. Our room was a cottage right at the end of the row of rooms, offering more privacy and a larger... More

We know Cape Maclear well from many years of travelling there. Mgoza is definitely the best reasonably priced accommodation there. The owner is extra-ordinary in his care of guests and staff alike. the staff obviously love and respect him enormously and give excellent service to all. The food is excellent and we agree that they serve probably the best burgers... More

Beautiful lodge with some quirky rooms, and incredibly friendly staff and an owner who is committed to the local community. Quiet, tidy garden area, just a few metres from the beach. Great food. (Pool is a bit smaller than the photo might suggest.)

Mgoza seems to be the best budget accomodation at Cape Maclear. It has a really lovely garden and a small pool (that saves you from going in the bilharzia infested lake). We loved lounging around in that garden. The bar/restaurant is nice. You can easily spend an afternoon/evening there soaking up the view of the beach, the lake and the... More

Even if you aren't a guest of the lodge, you can go there to have some food, specially the local fishes that domain the daily diet of local people. There are some options of fish, but nothing very special. The main thing is to have a moment of privacy and avoid the hordes of local sellers bothering you everywhere and... More

Awesome view of the Lake from our room! We were in Cape Maclear not to stay in the Lodge, but to go scuba diving. Staying at Mgoza just made the visit to Cape M that much more pleasant. When not diving, it was relaxing to just sit in the grounds and watch the world go by. Locals come down to... More

Visited Mgoza twice and loved it both times. First time I stayed in the dorm, which was good & affordable with a solar light, clean beds and a little breeze. This year we upgraded to a room and that was fantastic! The staff is nice, the food is good - we were lucky they had Thai green curry on special... More

It's a great, inexpensive gem that sits right on the lake. I stayed in one of the A-Frames bungalows, where you have beautiful views of life going on at the lakes edge all viewed from your bed - bliss. There's lovely green grass, a rarity for much of Africa, surrounding the swimming pool and sun loungers or hammocks to chill... More

The arrival in Mgoza is beautiful. The view through the open window on the lake just says it all! We were greeted super friendly. The A frame rooms are very spacious, clean and equipped with electricity and light. The sounds of the lake through the wicker walls make the experience complete. The staff is so friendly, keeps pushy salespeople away... More

We came to Mgoza and Cape Maclear out of the many options to stay on Lake Malawi and we felt like we hit out of the park. The accommodations was nice, a pool, bar, and restaurant. The best part is we could enjoy it all because it was all reasonably priced. If only we didn't have somewhere to be we... More
