The place and the setting is beautiful, and the villas and the hotel grounds have clean designs with a good taste. The biggest problem with us were bugs, and lots of them, in our villa, every day. I get that it is sitting in a biological farm, but still, I did not expect to deal with so many bugs in... More

We arrived in Catania airport and found our car rental with no problem. GPS meant we arrived at the hotel in about 30 mins. Watch out for the signs for the hotel. We received a nice welcome at the hotel, and our cases were taken from our car to the room. We stayed in room 6. We ate lunch by... More

Wow! What an amazing place to stay!! It's an historical villa which is converted into a luxurious hotel. All rooms are suites, decorated with beautiful rare art. The views are amazing, you can see the see, and spectacular view of Mount Etna. All food and a lot of the wines are biological. At breakfast, which is included you will find... More

Gorgeous setting, truly remote and quiet. The hotel is on 50 hectares, has its own garden, orchard, beautiful main house. I agree with previous reviews, the price is rather high despite the overall quality. Beautifully designed rooms. Yet, for 350€, one should not have too look at a wall. Rooms without a view should be less expensive. Recommendations for the... More

I tend to agree with recent previous comments. This really should be better for the price they are asking. The venue is superb, the views are stunning and the remote setting is wonderful. A credit to the vision of the owners. But, and there are many... The rooms - and we had a suite- are not up to scratch. The... More

We stayed for one night to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately the electricity went out so we could not use the toilet, shower and the ac did not work during the night so it was very hot in the room. The manager was very helpful and professional during the checkout and gave us a good discount because of the electricity, so... More

We loved our stay which was over 4 nights for a wedding anniversary. It was a short trip, organised around this wonderful hotel and location. We stayed in one of the out buildings, an original and restored wine press with an amazing bed, on top of the press with views down to the coast in one direction and Mount Etna... More

Dear Guest, thank you for giving us your feedback about your stay. We are glad to read that you really appreciated Monaci, with its setting and unique view. Thank you for your positive notes about the staff, to whom we passed your comments. Monaci doesn’t want to be a luxury hotel, nor a farm holiday. We are located in a... More

There is no doubt about it, the hotel is situated in an absolutely superb location. To be able to sip your drink looking out over Mount Etna is truly special and the luscious green farmland and vineyard the hotel is situated on create an extremely tranquil setting for a relaxing break. However, overall we were disappointed with our stay. We... More

We visited this hotel summer of 2015 and we immediately given one of their new annexed rooms which had fantastic views around Etna and the property. The food was biological and every meal from breakfast to lunch to dinner was fantastic. We discovered an amazing white wine called Millimetre a Carricante which was amazing. You could only get it at... More

It is clear when you arrive that Monaci delle Terre Nere is a special place. A fading country mansion and vineyard situated on the slopes of Mount Etna with stunning views over the sea. We had travelled up from southern Sicily and couldn't believe how lush and green everything looked - like England in the summer plus sun and heat.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2007, by chance, I stumbled upon this place, fell in love with it and decided to devote my life to its resurrection. To bring this place, previously chosen by the monks of Saint Anna’s order for his special energy and extraordinary charm, back to life. It has become the second great project of my life. The estate Monaci delle Terre Nere is situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, the biggest volcano in Europe on the border of the Etna National Park at 500mt above sea level. My wish has been to preserve the historic identity and local traditions, more than a Boutique Hotel it is a home which I hope retains its intimacy. The house which dates from 1800 is listed as one of historical importance. It is now a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. ... more   less
