It was acold November night and the room was cool . The room was basic too and the dinner was ok. No complaints but no rave reviews either. We had stayed here on the way to the Tunnel 2 or 3 years ago and still prefer it to a branded box in Calais but it was only a pit stop and probably that's all we would ever use it for....

The chateau looks beautiful. The bedroom was very comfortable though, even with the fan working continuously, very warm, as was the bottle of water provided. Owels and bedding very good.Disappointed with the shower arrangement, which was over the bath and part of the bath mixer tap. Difficult for a septugenarian to negotiate climbing into the bath. Also the WiFi did not work in the bedroom-. Not altogether happy with the restaurant. Firstly there is no menu to look at. It has to be downloaded by a scanning a qr code. Despite a request, the waiters were not prepared to provide paper versions. The wine list would not load and passing a phone from person to person is not ideal. Foie gras was an additional 7€ but actually seemed to be paté or terrine. The main course was overcooked magret de canard ( no enquiry as to cuisine required) and not very good at all. I left the whole course. On the plus side, the amuse bouche, pre starter and pre dessert were all excellent as was my husband's starter and both desserts Hot breakfast dishes had run out and no offer to replenish was made. All in all we were disappointed . The logis hotels in which we stayed offered better value for money and the other chateau hotel, in the Loire, was infinitely superior in every way. Would not return.

I would rate this hotel a 3.8. 4 stars for: Beautiful chateau, gorgeous rooms, excellent dinner (fixed price for 3 courses with amuse bouche - the starters and mains were particularly good), friendly staff. great coffee in the morning. 3 stars for: Reception and bar frequently unstaffed. A few people at the bar (early evening) commenting on how hard it was to get a drink. As the bottles and glasses are all there behind the often unmanned bar, perhaps an honesty bar might be the way forward? Other than a general soap/shampoo dispenser in the bathroom, there were no toiletries provided (no conditioner, body lotion etc). I expect to pack my own when staying at a budget hotel but not one like this. 16 euros for breakfast is too much when the hot food trays (eggs) are empty an hour before the breakfast finish time. Again, given a hotel of this standard it would be good to have someone checking there is enough food.

An absolute delight! Beautiful location, superb staff and all geared to making your stay enjoyable. Our room was clean and charming in an old fashioned way. Perfectly comfortable. We had an excellent welcome and a young man ensured we had excellent service at the bar before dinner. Dinner was magnificent. We had a small tray of 4 amuse bouches followed by a small cup of soup. The meal itself was beautifully cooked and presented. The hotel is well located for a stopover before or after a channel crossing, and is where we will always stay from now on. Something to look forward to at the beginning or end of a holiday.

A good place to stay prior to returning to the UK via Eurotunnel or ferry, in an attractive rural setting. We had a ground floor room which wasn't large but was charmingly decorated, a large and comfortable bed and a good modern shower. There are tea and coffee-making facilities (not all French hotels have these) but paper cups again!!- they go soggy after one use and are difficult to hold if hot. China cups are so much nicer and more useable, probably more sustainable as they don't have to be thrown away, also small wooden stirring sticks instead of teaspoons, they don't really do the job. We usually bring our own teabags, as French hotels often only provide herbal/mint or lemon teabags. That aside, everything else was very good. Good draught fruit/red beer and Affligem in the bar, as well as a range of cocktails. Dinner was really delicious, particularly enjoyed the entree of smoked duck, artichoke and goats cheese. They offered a qr code for the menu but I never take my phone into restaurants and do not like this latest use of technology by the hospitality trade! However, they happily provided a proper menu card on request. Service was very good in the restaurant and the meal was the highlight of our stay.

We arrived mid afternoon two couples. A relax then a stroll, in the grounds. A nice greeting at reception. We can see there has been more investment by the owners, with a delightful wedding venue in the grounds. We had room 14,a nice spacious room comfortable bed ,great shower & bath no problem with water ( as I’ve seen some mention) We had booked Dinner Bed & Breakfast Dinner was extremely good, starters:shellfish , burrata & tomato salad, artichoke & goats cheese, crab Mains: all 4 of us had the beef - cooked & presented really well. To finish: Strawberry Pavlova 3 cheese selections ( all local ) Either side cocktails and two bottles of good wine. The dining room was full, well served by the two guys. We will be back as it’s a very nice stop off for the Channel tunnel For the record I cannot, and have not seen any of the issues raised in the “poor” ratings. This place delivers on what it is a delightful French country hotel, great food, nice rooms (DOG FRIENDLY rooms set aside). The owners clearly continue to invest in the property. We all loved it.

How this place got a 4* rating is beyond me, they must have got them for being so near to Le Shuttle. I left 3 messages for the manager to contact me before I wrote this honest review but he could not be bothered to talk to me , this shows the respect & contempt that they show to their guests. The crazy thing is the couple with were with has stayed there for over 30 years and used to rave about this place .We arrived on Friday afternoon and met by a young, nice, but inexperienced girl and sent to a bedroom with no working lights ,no working room phone and no working room safe ,could not phone reception and had to go back down to get the young girl whose english is not great and leave the first message for the manager to contact me who was not on the premises,( I hope he was somewhere better than we were ) Then came dinner, half the menu had been changed for other items, tastless pea soup instead of cauliflower and so on thoughout the menu. Why do restaurants today try to serve arty farty dishes, if I want art, I will go to an art gallery I GO TO A RESTAURANT BECAUSE I AM HUNGRY .The Chateau is in the middle of nowhere and you are trapped .and the breakfast offering is just as bad .We got down at 9am to find everhing had almost gone ,1 piece of bread and the rest looked like the mice had been at it,nothing is replaced, not even the coffee , remember this is meant to be 4* but not to call a guest back to see what was the problem , is inexcusable.I even phoned the hotel again on Monday, once we were back in the UK and was told the manager was away yet again ( maybe away with the fairies) because his hotel certainly is AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Dear Sir, I am very surprised of your comments. Effectively you have came with your friends, who are usual clients and very kind clients. We have got no problem with them and they will come back in september. How explain you that when we read your comments? We have discuss of the desagrement about lights, which has been changed (Sorry but we can not know when the light will stop...) We have see the safe and it was OK. About restaurant and breakfast, your friends like it but not you. We have got only good comments about restaurant except you. I thank that it was OK at your departure because with your friends, you have said nothing and you pay your bill. How undestand that you are 4 (you and your friends), that you have got same things : your friends enjoyed their stay but not you....

The room….great. The evening meal….lovely. The following morning and needing to leave on time to arrive at the channel crossing booked. We awoke and faced with no hot or cold water! Meaning no shave, no shower and difficult bathroom necessities! The response from reception as we left was pathetic. After much discussion, 2 glasses of wine was the compensation! Customer satisfaction….nil!! Try somewhere else.

Dear Sir, Very surprised of your comments about water. Effectively, we have got a problem with water and have to close immediately but it has been closed from 8.35AM til 9.05 AM and you have left the hotel at 8.55AM. It has been closed only 30 minutes. All clients has understand except you. I think just to have an offer. Note that we do not know that we will have that problem.

Sadly, we arrived in the dark and left in the dark but we would definitely come back here for a longer stay next time. Looks lovely from the outside (when lit up - in the dark!!) but inside the rooms were very nicely done with a super comfortable bed. We had a dog (extra Euro30 but no problem at all) and I think we were put in a disabled-accessible room, because they were really pretty full. Unfortunately (and I am not complaining) we couldn't go into the restaurant with the dog, but we had a table in the bar with the same menu and the food was absolutely spectacular. They seemed to be a bit short on staff, but the two guys were doing a great job of holding it all together. Had a few chats with some other very nice English guests too - it seems to be a well-loved stop off point as others were regulars. Would highly recommend as much more than just a "functional" stop over to Europe.
