We stayed here on the last leg of our trip around the ring road before heading back to Reykjavik. It's a tiny little town with minimal attractions and things to do except for Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss. The hostel was clean and relatively quiet - as is standard in Iceland the linens were extra. It was on par with what we...

I stayed in Grundarfjordur Apartments for 1 night after spending whole day in Snaefellsjoekull National Park. It’s also worth staying here for the view over Kirkjufell Mountain from the apartment. The whole place is extremely modern and clean, with lovely friendly reception staff (Please ensure that you needs to check in Grundarfjordur Hostel). I stayed in a single room with...

Firstly, this is not an expensive place so you really get what you pay for. Was slightly annoyed when we were told by reception at the stated address to drive to a separate building located a few minutes away. Our twin room (with attached bathroom) was clean and modern and there's a large communal kitchen where you can cook and...

Stopped here for a night on the way around the ring road. We got here late ish so didn't get too much of a look around the town but it seems like a nice spot. Staff were remarkably friendly and very helpful, answering all our questions. The hostel is spread over 3 buildings but from what I can tell it's...

If you're planning to visit Kirkjufell, this is a great no-frills place to stay. Very basic accommodation, not even a TV in the room, and the rooms are in a separate location from the place you check in. Rooms are on the 2nd floor, and you are not allowed to wear your shoes, and either have to leave them in...

First, my wife and I are seasoned world travelers. We decided on this hotel, as the other option in town was a bit pricier. We were sold on this hotel, as it offered a private bath - a luxury on the north side of the Snaefellsner Peninsula. In fact, our building was one of three buildings that the hostel uses...

I spent two weeks in Iceland and stayed in six different guest houses/hotels. I've also stayed in other hotels/pensions in various western European and Scandinavian locations and this one is, by far, the smallest ever. As far as I'm concerned, this room (we had a room with a private bath - not an apartment or a shared room in the...

We actually stayed at the "Grundarfjordur Guesthouse & Apartments" which is the other component of this entity and which is located separately from the youth hostel. The Guesthouse is located on the waterfront in a converted warehouse with excellent views of Kirkjufell. The accommodations are basic but clean with a large communal kitchen and the place appears to have opened...

Our room in the main building had benefited from the work of a keen interior designer with very bold colours and modern fittings. Very cheerful on a grey day I should think. The bathrooms had queues in the morning and the kitchen got pretty busy at times. That said, the hostel is ideally placed for an exploration of the stunning...

We stayed in one of the apartments down by the harbour. The rooms were spacious and the furniture comfortable. The soft furnishings in our room were very bright oranges and clashed rather with the green net curtains! The shower is very good but a proper cubicle would be better than the curtains currently used. WiFi keeps dropping out, but gives...
