Our group of 6 friends spent a week at 'Paradise' Beach after a fabulous 10-day Safari over on the mainland. We opted for this hotel as it was owned by the same group that we went on Safari with, which I have to say was a 1st class experience that I have no complaints about. Sad to say that this resort came nowhere near our expectations that had been set from the Safari. The standard rooms are nothing special, basic but sufficient to sleep in. The hotel operates a bed turn down policy at night, which is hit and miss whether it happens or not. That said, I felt the room was clean. By far the biggest let down was the food, it was buffet style that they tried to put a twist on with a different theme each night, but it really didn't work. The food was poor quality, not replenished quickly and once put in the serving dishes it was left to go cold and a lot of things were left uncovered for the flies to swarm over. On-site is an A la Carte Restaurant, which although is not the same standard as we would expect in the UK, the food there was very good and great sized portions (as a couple of our party found out from ordering the burgers). Although we had to pay extra to eat here, we thought it was worth it to escape what I use to refer to as the 'cookhouse' gruel, I also have to say the guys working there were excellent. I can also recommend the 'snacks' menu for lunchtime. Also on-site is an Indian restaurant, being a curry lover, I was so pleased to discover this... to eat here did not carry any extra charge. After your first visit you realise why! Food & service was very disappointing and although not busy took so long for food to arrive. The complex in general was tired, the social areas i.e., the bars had roof coverings that leaked the rain when we had some and were in dire need of replacing... We got up for breakfast one day only to find the floor flooded in the 'cookhouse', following a roof collapse from the overnight rain (see attached pic). The seats and pads are well overdue renewing, sadly not helped by the staff leaving them to get soaked when it rains. There was a number of times where we struggled to find dry seating to sit on, we even turned up a few times to find all the pads piled up wet on top of each other soaking wet, hours after rainfall, leaving us to try and find a dry one. Out of the bars, we found the Jetty bar to be the better. The one highlight and very positive thing the resort has going for it is the Spa, 4 of the 6 of us opted for a set of their treatments including 4 massages which we thought were excellent and great value. The team working there were great.

Possibly the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. TERRIBLE. The room size is fine, but with the Spartan furniture & faded decor , dodgy electrics. Beige sheets. Curtains hanging off wire. I didn’t want to put my feet on the floor even wore flip flops in the shower. Seriously this place is a 1 star hotel, more like a hostel. The crooked stairs and uneven balconies with wobbly wooden balustrades are dangerous. The beach is nothing special, smelt of sewage. The garden furniture is shabby & crudely made with nails sticking out. The pool bar top is stained & dirty. & The plastic glasses they use are cloudy & chipped. Not appealing. The main restaurant is dark, assume they hope you don’t notice the filthy floor & tables which go uncleaned , the chair cushions are so badly stained it s quite revolting. Only edible food was ‘ pizza’ which literally was just cooked dough with a scraping of dried up tomato sauce on top , other choice was plain rice. Fish curry smelt vile. I counted the hours until I could leave this hotel. Zanzibar is delightful , but this hotel is shockingly bad. Avoid.

Dear safaribird, Thank you for your review. Clearly you did not enjoy your stay with us. With a 4/5 score on Tripadvisor not everybody fortunately agrees with you and we feel that many of the items you present are a grave misrepresentation of the current state of the hotel. We checked the stairs and balconies in front of your room for instance, they are completely fine. Every six months we do maintenance and we paint them every single year. They are certainly not dangerous like you claim. Our plastic glasses for instance are cloudy by design and because it is hard plastic they cannot chip. We are very sorry the African food was not for you, we do serve a lot of curries with the spices of the island. During dinner time we do not serve pizza, but pizza bread, indeed flat bread dough with tomato sauce topping. We have an extensive buffet with 12 different hot dishes, 4 salads, salad bar, 4 different desserts, fresh fruit, 2 soups and a bread station. Besides the buffet we offer a pasta station and a live cooking grill on which have depending on the day 1 or 2 items. Please let the chef know if any of these dishes don't suit you, we are always happy to create something else if we have the ingredients. Did you try our a la carte Indian restaurant also part of the All-Inclusive? Great selection of varied spiced and flavorful dishes, many vegetarian options as well as chicken, mutton and prawn prepared in curries and in the tandoori oven. We hope that a next time you reach out to a hotel when staying there and things are not to your liking, you will find that for many things there are solutions. Now we cannot unfortunately turn your experience around anymore. Thank you for your review. General Management

You get what you paid for. Rooms were clean beside the smell which was caused by humidity. It was not in their control. We booked the all inclusive package which was worth it unlimited drinks made a huge difference. There are many bars. You can eat buffet, breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was enough variety. The hotel was full when we visited so my advice will be to always arrive early to get the best food. I requested a special table set up by the beach for 1 private dinner It was worth the 50 USD we paid. But you need to intervene with their deco style. Personally I am not a fan of African print material they are using so I came with my own. They baked a cute little cake for me which was lovely. The entertainment was good every night they do something different. Even during the day I enjoyed the water aerobics. They don't have the best of beaches that you see on the internet but you will be able to swim by the jetty bar when the tide is high.

Our stay at Paradise Beach Resort definitely met our expectations. We hade quite a large room, the bed was very hard but ylu got use to it. The first days we had an ant-invasion but got help from the staff and got to keep a can of insect repellant. The hotel had frequent power cuts, which conveniently occurred while in the shower, all soaped up. But they were overall short breaks. The cleaning over all was not great. Several times we didnt get any toiletpaper or towels when the dirty ones had been removed, and had to ask for it. The trashcan was not always emptied and glasses we brought in were not removed from the room. The towels smelled kind of bad, like of mold, despite being cleaned. One thing we missed here was that paradise beach. The hotel is by the ocean but the beach is often not swimable, sometimes due to low tide and a lot of seaweed. The clean the beach every morning. You can also swim from the jetty but the water was still not super clear there. The hotel offers a free shuttle to a beach in Kiwengwa, don't miss it, that beach is beautiful. We stayed for two weeks and after one week we got invited to a sunset drink on the jetty by the management. This was a very nice gesture that they offer to guests who booked through a travel agent. We got drinks and some snacks and met guest relations manager Selena. It was a nice gesture. The staff in the hotel is very friendly and you feel at home quite fast. Animation team had different activites and there were different shows a few times a week. We had all inclusive and were happy about the options offered, although after two weeks everything becomes mundane. But great choices of different stews, grilled fish, different soups etc. At the bar you had a good variety of drink options. For new years eve we booked a special dinner at the beach, for just the two of us. The arrangement was great but the food was not good. We got a few dishes and then a big plate with seafood, rice and chips. Our waiter felt like he wanted to be somewhere else and overall it took away from the experience. We choose not to visit the a la carte restaurant after that because we didn't feel that the quality of the meals were high enough to match the price point. The hotel also has a mini mart and a boutique. The hotel has a spa and you will meet them because the sell sell and sell. We bought a massage package and it was worth it. I had some of the best massages I have ever had from Sawia and I recommend it to everyone. My husband also got a shave. Prices were alright, of course depends on what you are comparing to, but in Swedish measurements. You were able to contact the reception via WhatsApp and that was great to get easy help without having to run to reception every time. Wifi was good except in our room were the signal did not reach. We made some excursions that we booked in the hotel and was for a majority happy. We went on a two day safari trip and a day of snorkeling and beach relaxing, had a great guide on that one Hassan. Our third excursion was cut short because of heavy rain so we had to go back to the hotel. The problem with that tour was that we got paired with a group excursion that spoke another language as well as the guide and we didn't receive any information about what was going on and what was happening. It felt like they forgot about us when planning for the guide etc. The day after we went back and had a nice tour of prison island and stone town together with an English speaking guide. We had a great stay here and I would definitely recommend it, maybe in combination with another hotel on the north side of the island so you get a chance to enjoy that true paradise beach feeling.

Pro’s - We had a family suite which was great for us with 4 kids. - The staff are really friendly and helpful - beautiful setting - all inclusive food is not bad at all - good value Cons - in spite of loads of places to sit and relax there’s still a lot of people putting towels on the sun loungers in the morning, leaving the pool empty but all loungers occupied. - There are two colubus monkeys on the resort. The mother is great as she keeps a little distance but close enough to see. Unfortunately the ‘baby’ has no fear of humans and some guests feed it & try to play with it. It’s a pity because at some point there will probably be an accident / incident - there is a lot of seaweed / funny texture to the sand in the sea + saw a couple of sea urchins so best watch where you are stepping. However this didn’t stop me enjoying time in the sea at all - just good to be aware of.

Hello TMischler, Thank you for your elaborate review of your stay with us at Paradise Beach Resort. We agree that the family suite is very nice for big families and offers sufficient space for all. We are happy that you enjoyed our food offering as wel so much and that you considered the hotel to be good value for money. We make sure we have enough sunloungers in our resort for everybody, it can however happen that especially around the three pools the sunloungers are all occupied at some point. We hope you saw the sunloungers on the beach, on the jetty and in front of Paradise Pool as well. We agree that guest need to be carefull with the wild monkeys that occasionally roam our resort grounds, we have put signs up not to feed them and touch them, however the temptation sometimes is too great. We keep on enforcing this to our guests as we agree with you it will always be a wild animal. Hope to welcome you back soon with us. With warm regards, General Management

It is a very nice and good place to relax. Really very friendly staff! Very good facilities, although not luxurious. Excellent cuisine with a very diverse and varied buffet. The beach is not suitable for swimming, but swimming is possible outside at the wooden jetty at high tide. However, other beaches more suitable for swimming are nearby and easily accessible. I can definitely recommend it.
