Detailed Reviews
We were there for almost a whole week in August and just loved it. We can't talk highly enough of the place. Every aspect: food, comfort, the pool, the warmth and kindness of the hosts; the friendly and gentle pet dogs, the attentive and willing staff; the stunning scenery, the deliciousness and variability of the food (we are vegetarian) and more.....
We were taken on a walk around the estate and shown where all the fruit and vegetables grow. It was hot so we stopped in the shade of a fig tree and took the opportunity to fill our faces with the delicious and succulent sweet fruit. Each morning baskets of picked produce appear near the kitchen door so you can see what you will be eating that day. During our stay: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers. water melon, galia melon, honeydew melon, parslane, aubergine, figs, courgettes, courgette flowers. okra and more. If you love your food this place is remarkable. Maria (the proprietress) in the kitchen does all that's need to turn this natural bounty into a collection of delicious dishes.
The music here is also something quite remarkable. Vassilis, the proprietor is an expert in the history of Cretan music, and an accomplished player of numerous traditional instruments. His first choice is the Cretan lute (lauto). We were spoiled on the first night to hear a masterclass in musical fusion as famous Greek/Dutch flamenco guitarist Yorgos Valiris and Vassisllis remarkably brought together the sounds of flamenco with traditional Cretan folk music. They even allowed an amateur part time guitarist like me to join in and busk along as the night wore on.
We were there our three teenage boys and although were worried that it might be too quiet for them, we had no problems at all. It is almost impossible not to fall into the wonderful relaxing ambience and adjust to the calm and gentle way of life on the estate surrounded by so much phenomenal natural beauty.
Covid hygiene respected with precision by all staff throughout our stay.
Really, you should go there if you have the chance. We'll be going back.

We spent a week in Villa Maria as a family of 6 with teenage and young adult kids. We absolutely loved this place. The environment was calm and peaceful. The staff were so attentive and accommodating. Nothing was too much too much trouble and they helped us with everything. The owner even personally drove us to the beach when our taxi didn’t show. The food is all home grown and lovingly prepared by Maria, the owners wife. Breakfast was a real treat as it is unusual to stay in a stand alone villa and have a wonderful breakfast served under the canopy of mulberry trees. The whole place is architect designed and extremely contemporary, yet sympathetic to Classical Greek architecture. We spent lazy days by the pool and had outings to the beach and places of interest. Rethymno is the nearest town and is really lovely. Lots of nice shops and restaurants and a great beach
We would definitely return here again.

Great amenities and beautiful views of the sea, mountains and olive orchards. Amazing traditional local food at the restaurant and unique musical entertainment from the owner. Highly recommended, will definitely be going back to experience the best Crete has to offer.

We have very mixed feelings about this hotel.
The good: beautiful setting away from the crowds with amazing views on olive trees all the way to the coast. The grounds are great and very well kept. The food served is very tasty made with the products of the farm.
The hostess, Maria, is very sweet and very welcoming.
The pool is big and we often had it to ourselves.
The less good: the pool is not heated and in late September the water is a bit too cold to enjoy swimming.
The bedroom although large with a nice balcony is strangely designed because the bed is against the wall so my husband had to crawl out of bed. And the switches for the night lamps were all on my side! No WiFi in the room, you have to go on the balcony.
The bad: we payed extra to have a jet tub in our bungalow. This proved a waste of money since the jet tub was not heated. We had to ask 2 hours ahead when we would be using it and then the water was a little warmer but still not warm enough to sit in. Finally I never used it and my husband only once.
We were also very surprised by the reaction of the host who told us it was never mentioned it was heated! Some things go without saying!😊And the lonely planet guidebook does mention heated jet tub.
We hoped till the last minute that he would offer at least a partial refund, but no!

genuinely unfriendly boss - the only positive point is the restaurant terrace and the quality of the food in the evening. For the rest: chaotic breakfast, dark and impractical room with the worst bathroom seen in my life, pool area with potential but marred by the lack of hygiene (non-existent pool cleaning, uncleaned toilets/showers, corpses of beers from the 1st day were still lying around on the 5th day when leaving). and therefore the unpleasant and cold boss, who rather than sharing his passion for music or the sustainable farm (tour offered at 25 eur per person !!?! when we are a group of 20 people with children in 9 rooms for 5 nights), short especially after signing restaurant vouchers .. I will not go back, there is better way to have a great experience on this very beautiful island

We stayed at the Dalabelos Estate for four nights at the beginning of August. We booked it because we were looking for the equivalent of an agritourismo. We were delighted with our choice and only regretted not having stayed longer.
The estate only has 10 rooms and is very secluded. It is overlooking 900 olive trees and has amazing views over the mountains and the sea. The rooms are very spacious, clean, quiet (save for the cicadas singing which we loved) and with stunning views. We had a superior room with a private jaccuzzi which was a real treat - we highly recommend it. The swimming pool is spacious with lovely views over the estate's garden.
This is a family owned hotel managed by Vasilis who was a truly amazing host. He came to our table every day at dinner to check if everything was going well and offer his assistance. On the first day he gave a map of the area and showed us all the spots to visit. Interestingly half of his recommendations were not in the Michelin guide and those recommendations were very much what was the best that we've seen in the area.
Whilst we were initially not planning to have dinner we ended up having dinner there every single nights. The reason was that it was so delicious and fresh. 80% of what they cook is actually grown on the farm with most of the food picked up in the morning for the evening. You can find from traditional Greek dishes to delicious snails in rosemary and vinegar (which was a treat for a French man). We loved it so much!
We are definitely planning to come back to Crete and will definitely stay at the Dabellos Estate but this time for at least a full week!"

Dalabelos is paradise! The quiet location, the delicious fresh food made from the own garden, the stunning view on the mountains and the sea... and the infinity pool is marvellous. But most important, the owners Vassilis and Maria are very kind and helpful. We really recommend this place. It is near the coast (15min drive), near some very interesting places (Arkadi monastery, caves, gorges...). Vassilis provides a map of the region with all nice excursions. This was a dream holiday, great thanks to all the staff of Dalabelos.

The hotel is really, really great. It was like in paradise. It's the ideal place to calm down and to recover. The owner were very friendly and helpful for planning visits on the island crete. We booked a guided tour through their big and beautiful garden with all the growing fruits, vegetables and herbs. We felt how much heart and soul the owners put into it. So we can recommend this tour. Also we can recommend the breakfast and dinner because most of the incredients come from their own farm. It tasted delicious. The dinner-atmosphere in the evening was very romantiic because the owner gave us a little concert with traditional music. It is really one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen.

My family stayed at Dalabelos for a few nights and it was the best part of our travels - we wish we could stay longer and definitely want to return. It was accurately described on their website, and exceeded our expectations. Gorgeous natural setting on top of a hill with amazing views, welcoming large infinity pool, and the most delicious food on our Greece trip. Dalabelos also offered cultural exchange through food (do the cooking class!), farm tour, music, nature, and kindness...Best of all were our hosts! We, including my teens, appreciated the warmth hospitality. Dalabelos is the best of what Greece has to offer!

Dalabelos is excellent! This was our favorite place on Crete. Vassili's gardens feel like Eden, and Maria's food is amazing. The thought and care that they have put into every aspect of their property is clear from the moment you arrive. We wish we could have stayed longer.
We especially enjoyed the cooking class, which was a great way to learn about not only Cretan food, but also eco-friendly farming and permaculture.
If you plan to have dinner at the restaurant, make sure to call in advance, because everything is made fresh, mostly from their own farm, and they need to know you're coming so there's enough food.
